Chapter 202: Watching Live Streams Without Gifting
Lhasa Gonggar Airport was more than 40 kilometers away from the outskirts of Lhasa city. At six o'clock in the evening, a Mercedes-Benz business van pulled up to the entrance of the St. Regis Resort. The driver and a hotel staff member, one carrying Wang Ping and the other holding Little Four, ushered a bewildered Gu Lang into the car before speeding off toward the airport expressway.
Apart from his personal handbag, Gu Lang had already arranged for the hotel to send his other luggage back to Shengjiawu earlier that day. Unfortunately, Little Four couldn’t be mailed, or Gu Lang wouldn’t have been so conflicted after receiving Chen Bai’s call.
However, another incoming call quickly resolved his dilemma, though it left him utterly baffled. The caller claimed to be a fan of his, coincidentally on a business trip in Lhasa, and would be returning to Shanghai that evening. If Gu Lang needed, they could offer him a ride.
How the caller obtained Gu Lang’s phone number or knew he was in Lhasa and planning to return to Hangzhou wasn’t the issue. What really threw Gu Lang off was the mention of a “private jet” instead of a simple car ride.
Private jets, while not everyday vehicles, weren’t exactly rare in China. Over a thousand were registered with the Civil Aviation Administration, and with the growing number of wealthy individuals in the country, that number was only increasing. What truly perplexed Gu Lang wasn’t the invitation itself but the sheer incongruity of a billionaire being his fan.
Imagine someone closing multi-million-dollar deals in a suit, only to pull out a tablet later to watch some goofy live stream by an amateur host like Gu Lang. It felt absurd and out of place.
If not for the fact that a car had come to pick him up, Gu Lang might’ve thought it was a scam. As the van sped down the expressway, no matter what questions Gu Lang asked, the driver simply replied, “You’ll know when you meet the boss.” This cryptic response only piqued Gu Lang’s curiosity further.
Among the regulars who gifted him generously in his livestream, Gu Lang recognized a few usernames—like “SausageCuteUncle” and “IllegalAccount”—which seemed somewhat fitting for his image of a wealthy benefactor.
“Could it be ‘IllegalAccount’?” Gu Lang mused. That username sounded powerful enough, and it belonged to the person he remembered gifting him the most.
It didn’t take long for them to reach Gonggar Airport. The driver parked, then led Gu Lang through the VIP security checkpoint. Under airport regulations, Wang Ping and Little Four were placed in travel crates, and a shuttle soon delivered them to the boarding ramp of a Gulfstream G200 waiting on the tarmac.
Inside his crate, Wang Ping’s jaw dropped as he pushed Little Four to stop it from licking everything in sight.
“Holy cow! This is serious money!”
Even for someone with Wang Ping’s former income, private jets were the epitome of luxury. Even non-Gulfstream models cost far beyond his wildest dreams.
“This thing must be worth over a hundred million yuan,” Wang Ping muttered, still marveling.
Before he could finish his thoughts, a middle-aged man in a suit greeted them warmly as they entered the cabin.
Gu Lang extended his hand to introduce himself, but the man barely shook it before grabbing the travel crate containing Wang Ping and lifting it up for inspection.
“Boss, you must’ve been bored! And Little Four too—come on, let me get you something tasty!”
Gu Lang: …
So much for being my fan. You’re full of it!
Seeing how casually the other person acted—setting the pet carrier on a table in the cabin and opening it without hesitation—Gu Lang hurried over.
Though Gu Lang himself came from a wealthy family, there was a world of difference between him and someone who casually flew private jets. He feared Wang Ping might lash out at the stranger if he felt uncomfortable, which could escalate into a bigger problem.
But Gu Lang’s worries were unfounded. Instead of acting aloof, Wang Ping was surprisingly cooperative, immediately charming the man with a friendly handshake. Little Four, however, remained wary, cowering in the crate and whimpering softly.
“Haha! Boss is so cute!”
The man chuckled, patting Wang Ping’s head. To Gu Lang’s astonishment, not only did Wang Ping not retaliate, but he even closed his eyes contentedly.
“That opportunistic scoundrel… selling his dignity for snacks…” Gu Lang thought disdainfully.
After doting on Wang Ping for a while, the man realized his manners had slipped and turned his attention to chatting with Gu Lang.
Wang Ping finally relaxed and began surveying the cabin. Contrary to his expectations, the interior wasn’t overly lavish—just simple furnishings. Along the walls were two rows of seats facing a flat-screen TV and a table. Two assistants sat there, staring at Wang Ping curiously. Further inside was a sofa with a coffee table opposite, followed by storage compartments where two flight attendants were preparing refreshments.
As Wang Ping inspected the cabin, others aboard were equally intrigued by him. When they were about to depart for Shanghai, their boss suddenly instructed his secretary to look up a number and personally make a call. Two hours later, this unusual guest appeared in their midst.
The flight attendants wondered about Gu Lang’s identity, while the assistants kept glancing at Wang Ping. From introductions, they learned the self-proclaimed fan’s name was Yan Gang, a real estate tycoon.
Of course, Gu Lang assumed the “fan” bit was just polite flattery. After all, it was painfully obvious whose fan Yan Gang really was.
While Wang Ping pondered how much damage he’d have to pay for if he accidentally scratched the plane’s seats, Gu Lang finally broke the silence and asked about Yan Gang’s online alias.
This question intrigued both Gu Lang and Wang Ping. What kind of username would a multi-millionaire choose? Had he ever sent those silly comments during streams?
At the mention of his username, Yan Gang hesitated. Wang Ping noticed the two assistants nearby suddenly lowering their heads, struggling to suppress grins.
“Ahem… my username is… ‘DirectorOfTheMoeResearchInstitute.’”
“Krk…” Wang Ping nearly burst out laughing, hastily covering his mouth with a paw.
Gu Lang bit his tongue to keep from smiling. Neither he nor Wang Ping could quite reconcile the image of a middle-aged, slightly greasy businessman with such a whimsical username.
But then confusion set in. Neither of them had any memory of “DirectorOfTheMoeResearchInstitute.”
Wang Ping scratched his furry face, looking unimpressed. So… you’re this rich, and you don’t even gift during streams?
