Chapter 121: The Power of Level Two

Holy crap? Isn’t this 'Lady Lisa' being a little too rough with her kid?

Leon barely managed to snatch the puppy mid-air before it could crash onto the table. As he cradled the squirming bundle in his arms, a string of questions flooded his mind.

It wasn’t hard to see why. Lady Lisa was a golden retriever, but the little pup in Leon’s hands didn’t match her at all. Its fur was stark black and white, with two triangular ears standing stubbornly upright. Three white dots on its brow formed a chubby, rounded character resembling the Chinese word for "fire."

Wait a minute—isn’t this just a husky?

Hmm… hold on.

Just as Leon was about to jump to that conclusion, he noticed something odd. Nestled atop the pup’s head, near where a human’s crown would be (but closer to the back of the dog's skull), were a few sparse strands of gold fur. The color matched Lady Lisa perfectly.

After locking eyes with the defiant young husky staring up at him, Leon glanced over at the full-grown golden retriever reflected in the glass panel. Then, turning to Jerry—the shorter man standing nearby—he asked hesitantly:

"Is... uh... Lady Lisa’s spouse also a husky or something?"

"No," Jerry replied flatly. "Lisa’s husband is one of her own kind—a golden retriever, same as her."

Jerry sighed wearily after glancing at the golden-furred pup in Leon’s arms.

“That,” he said, “is the child of Lisa’s husband and his mistress.”

“…”

Wait. So, what you’re saying is that Lisa’s husband cheated on her—with a husky—and then brought their kid home for Lisa to raise?

“Sigh… You don’t know how complicated things are in her household,” Jerry muttered, shaking his head as he caught sight of Leon’s dumbfounded expression.

“Lisa’s husband… well, let’s just say he’s no saint. When the Mirror World invasion happened three years ago, he sensed trouble brewing and bolted early—with his mistress, no less. He left behind an entire litter of pups without so much as a second thought. Lisa doesn’t have any children of her own, but when she heard those poor little ones crying out for help, she took them in. Her heart couldn’t turn them away.”

“But while she can tolerate raising most of them—for her husband’s sake—this particular pup…” Jerry gestured toward the blue-eyed fluffball in Leon’s arms. “Aside from that patch of gold on his head, he looks almost identical to his biological mother. Every time Lisa sees him, it reminds her of her husband’s betrayal.”

“Sigh… Even though Lisa has a soft spot for him and has kept him around all these years, it still hurts. She used to cry whenever she saw him, especially in the first couple of years. Honestly, it’s probably best if you take him off her paws.”

“…”

“I see…” Leon murmured stiffly, absorbing the soap-opera-worthy drama unfolding before him. He stared at the large golden retriever now turned away, her back quivering faintly. Unsure of what to say, he absentmindedly stroked the tuft of golden fur atop the pup’s head.

“Well…” Leon muttered under his breath, somewhat speechless as he ran his fingers through the silky tuft of golden fur. “…at least it seems easy enough to care for.”

Looking up at Jerry, Leon finally spoke: “What I really need is storage space. Isn’t this thing a bit small? Can it even carry anything?”

“No worries,” Jerry reassured him. “These creatures store items by ‘shuttling’ rather than physically moving them. They don’t need strength to transport objects.”

As he spoke, Jerry pulled out a small handheld mirror from his pocket and gave it a quick flick toward the pile of anomalies on the desk.

Woof.

With a familiar bark, everything on the table that was caught in the small mirror’s reflection vanished instantly—as though erased by an eraser. Meanwhile, the reflection inside the mirror revealed another table piled high with the displaced items.

“There, see? That’s how it works.”

After demonstrating the basic function of the [Mirror Dog], Jerry returned to his desk, rummaged through a drawer, and handed Leon a similar mirror. His expression turned serious as he added:

“They’re not just storage tools—they’re exceptional companions and helpers too. The Mirror World isn’t defined solely by mirrors themselves. Any reflective surface counts as an entrance to the Mirror World.”

He paused, tapping his foot against the office carpet to reveal the concrete floor beneath. Picking up a water glass from the desk, he poured most of its contents onto the ground.

A few seconds passed as the water settled into a stable, mirror-like surface. Suddenly, Lady Lisa appeared within the puddle, snatching a knife with her teeth and tossing it out.

“I once fell victim to an ambush by the Nightmare Cult,” Jerry recounted, pointing to the watery reflection. “They stripped me of everything, broke my limbs, tied me up, and locked me away in a pitch-black dungeon. But they underestimated me—I still had Lisa.”

His voice carried a note of lingering unease. “Those lunatics were careful, but during interrogation, I babbled nonsense to buy time. Eventually, I convinced them to give me more water. After holding it in for hours, I urinated on the floor, creating a makeshift reflective surface. Using an emergency anomaly item I’d prepared beforehand, I healed my injuries and escaped by the skin of my teeth.”

“And that’s not all they’re good for,” Jerry continued, reaching into his pocket and pulling out a palm-sized metal object. Placing the heavy sphere in Leon’s hand, he snapped his fingers lightly.

Woof.

In the blink of an eye, the metallic orb disappeared from Leon’s palm.

“The human eye reflects images too,” Jerry explained. “As long as there’s an unobstructed line of sight, Lisa can retrieve or place objects directly. And yes, she can bring things back as well.”

Woof.

Pointing to the metal sphere that reappeared beside the pup, Jerry added earnestly: “This here is a whale-oil bomb I procured from the military department. It’s been enhanced with an anomaly to amplify its explosive power. Once activated, it’ll obliterate an entire building and release incendiary agents burning at over 1,000 degrees Celsius. With proper training, that little guy can deliver it straight to your enemy’s face.”

“…”

Uh… wow.

No wonder you’re considered nearly Level 1, Leon thought silently. Emma wields a sniper rifle, which already seemed absurd—but you’re literally throwing explosives point-blank? Talk about breaking every rule in combat etiquette…

Seeing the mix of awe and admiration in Leon’s eyes, Jerry—who already had plans to befriend the “Appraisal Master”—grinned knowingly.

“Of course, retrieving or placing larger objects through such a tiny reflection comes at a steep cost. You won’t be able to attempt anything like that until your Leon Value surpasses 10 points. Plus, the pup needs to grow stronger. For now, neither of you is ready.”

“The reason I’m telling you all this is to emphasize just how valuable that little guy is. Don’t treat him like some glorified suitcase. His abilities are extraordinary—if you don’t put them to use, you’ll regret it.”

“Oh, and when the time comes that you’re ready to handle whale-oil bombs, come find me. I’ll gift you two free ones. Though, for now…” Jerry trailed off, startled by the whimpering puppy and the sudden disappearance of the bomb from Leon’s hand.

“How did you do that? Do you have an anomaly that lets you communicate with animals?”
