Chapter 11: White Gawd Falls in Love

While Dark casually absorbed knowledge...

Emma Mortis walked into the reading room, pouting. She arrived at the library almost immediately after Dark but had spent much more time in the rows of books.

Emma came from a scholarly family. Her father taught children how to write at the church, and her mother was a disciple of a Sage.

After humans exterminated the demons, they entered a Renaissance period. With Valkyrie becoming a world-renowned female figure, women's voices were elevated like never before. Many exceptional women appeared in all fields, and even in combat, they were not inferior to men.

Moreover, since the profession of magister was not restricted by gender, the presence of female magisters further raised women's status.

From an early age, Emma was influenced by her parents, developing a deep love for books and an intense thirst for knowledge. She also inherited her mother's strong, independent personality.

It wasn’t that Emma was bad at making friends; rather, since entering the academy, she found the boys and girls of her age to be too childish, leaving her uninterested in interacting with them.

Furthermore, Saint Marian Academy had the largest library in the kingdom—it was her dreamland!

Caught up in the excitement of seeing rare books, Emma lost track of time in the stacks.

Unlike Dark, who had only picked out a single book, A Collection of Magical Spirits, Emma had stacked up a whole pile.

She wobbled forward with her stack of books, her cheeks flushed with a slight blush.

Everything was going smoothly.

Emma found an empty table near Dark, set down her towering stack of books, and eagerly started reading.

So engrossed was she that she didn’t notice Dark sitting just a few meters away in the front left corner.

The two first-year students, separated by just a few meters, peacefully read their books without disturbing each other.

The library provided snacks for those who got hungry, but unlike the unscented tea, all snacks had to be eaten in the snack room.

Around six o'clock, Dark went to eat two syrup biscuits. He avoided his favorite chocolate scone and only had a small cup of milk before returning to the reading room.

A Collection of Magical Spirits was a type of illustrated encyclopedia, but it featured a variety of quirky spirits, with humorous descriptions and colorful illustrations.

Dark gradually realized that reading these entertaining books was different from studying textbooks. As long as there wasn’t a strong sense of purpose behind it, [Greed] wouldn’t be triggered.

Moreover, A Collection of Magical Spirits contained a decent amount of knowledge, so it didn’t feel like slacking off.

Soon, he realized that if this place sold action-packed, wish-fulfilment novels, he might meet a tragic end...

The uncontrollable urge to continue reading could be considered [Greed].

Reading cliché, mindless novels with no substance would be [Sloth].

Reading even one shallow, feel-good novel might result in being punished for both sins!

How terrifying was that?!

Around seven o’clock, a group of noisy kids burst into the library.

White Gawd was at the center of the group. The freshmen of Knight House were excitedly bombarding the son of the Brave One with all sorts of questions, completely oblivious to how their behavior might disrupt the quiet atmosphere of the library.

Robert was left out, like an ugly duckling abandoned by its companions.

The two had both recently summoned their familiar spirits and were planning to check the library for information.

However, contrary to Dark’s guess, White’s familiar spirit wasn’t a stag, and Robert’s familiar spirit wasn’t a hound...

The librarian, Pandora Doragon, furrowed her elegant brows as she watched the unruly group of kids.

Suddenly, a gentle breeze swept through, and all of their voices vanished!

“A Silence Card?”

White snapped his mouth shut, then noticed the girl behind the counter glaring at them.

The girl had unusually pale skin, and her long black hair cascaded down like a waterfall. Under one of her eyes was a heart-shaped, scale-like mark.

She leaned forward slightly, her curvaceous figure pressed against the desk, forming a triangle, with a perfect curve behind her. Her legs under the skirt were astonishingly slender.

“Mama!”

The effect of the [Silence Card] wore off just in time, making White’s impulsive shout exceptionally clear and abrupt.

Everyone immediately turned to stare at him!

White’s face flushed bright red, and he wanted to lower his head—preferably into that senior’s chest.

“Come here and register,” Pandora said coldly, her expression flat.

These freshmen gave her a very bad impression.

Aren’t all freshmen supposed to be as cute, innocent, and shy as that earlier blonde boy? The kind who shyly lower their heads and blush like little animals when Big Sister gets close... Pandora quickly caught herself, forcing her mouth into a stern line, glaring even more fiercely at the troublesome kids before her.

Especially the leader—what did he mean by “mama”?

Do I look like his mother?

Could it be...

So naughty at such a young age—what will become of him in the future?

Pandora’s first impression of White was terrible!

Even after entering the library, White’s face was still flushed red.

The other students wandered off, leaving only Robert at his side.

Robert couldn’t help but ask, “White, why did you call her mama just then?”

White sighed, reaching into his collar to pull out a delicate pendant, his most cherished possession.

With a click, he opened the pendant, revealing a photo inside.

“This is my mother. Every night, I look at it and imagine what she’s like.”

Robert quickly leaned in for a look.

For some reason, the photo only showed her profile.

And it was a distant shot.

Although the profile was somewhat blurry, one could still make out White’s mother’s curvaceous figure and her signature long black hair.

Indeed, she did resemble that senior a bit.

Robert thought for a moment and suggested, “How about I go ask her name for you?”

White hesitated for a while, then finally shook his head. “No, it’s fine.”

After that, he quietly went back to searching for information.

The feelings of young boys and girls are always hard to predict.

Just like how White said it was fine, but in his heart, he couldn’t stop thinking about her.

And how Emma finally realized that the person reading in her peripheral vision was Dark. She found him annoyingly distracting yet couldn’t deny a slight feeling of joy.

After all, aside from the new students in Magister House, there weren’t many others as “serious” about their studies.

Dark was the only person she didn’t find completely childish.

At exactly nine o’clock, Dark glanced at the clock and closed A Collection of Magical Spirits, standing up to leave the table.

Emma was still engrossed in her reading, and Dark pretended not to see her.

He memorized the shelf number, returned A Collection of Magical Spirits to its place, and casually glanced at another spot.

Into the Abyss had been taken.

  2. "Emma was born in a scholarly family. His father taught children in the church and his mother was a disciple of a sage."- The "her" has become "his". The correct one:"Emma was born in a scholarly family. Her father taught children in the church and her mother was a disciple of a sage."
    Thanks for the chapter.

  3. "there was a heart-shaped, scaly thing under the corner of her eyes"

So this confirms that Pandora is the one in the cover photo. I didn't even notice that in the photo until I was looking for it.

  4. " a collection of magical spirits" could be regarded as an illustrated book, but it introduced some interesting spirits with painted illustrations, and the descriptions were very humorous.
    *"A

A group of noisy and yelling skin kids poured into the library.
*noisy, yelling kids/noisy kids who were yelling

  5. Kay, so, Emma is a brat. No wonder Dark isn't interested in her.
