Chapter 15 An Eldritch
Horror (Part 1/3)
The man
kicked and shoved the woman mercilessly. He tugged her by her collars and
sneered, "If you didn't escape, why do we need to catch you?" With a
rope, he bounded her like a fugitive and kicked her as she walked.
"Help,
I'm really not..." The woman burst into a peal of tears as she walked by
the people on the streets. With her teary eyes, snaking with red veins, she
choked and pleaded for help. Alas, no one stepped forward.
"What
are you looking at! Scram!" Several guards hollered aggressively at the
onlookers, dispersing the crowd.
"All
of you will keep this to yourselves. I have a strong backing behind me. If any
of you let loose of this incident, don't blame me for being nasty." With a
pompous attitude, the brawny man pointed the stick at the crowd and hissed.
Hearing
what he said, the people who had initially wanted to probe further fell
invariably silent. Afterwards, the entourage threw the woman onto the hay cart
and pulled her along towards the city centre.
The
woman laid in the cart and stared at the clear blue sky. Despite the loud clamouring
of the wheels, her desperate cries were painfully audible. The repeated defence
of her dignity fell short, with no one to testify for her. Most importantly, a
lady from a dignified family must be accompanied when she left home. Yet, this
woman was alone.
As the
cries faded into the distance, Jun Lixuan waved his hand gently. A hidden
shadow guard jumped out and disappeared immediately after receiving the order.
Ling
Qiyang blinked in disbelief. If he had not heard Jun Lixuan's orders, he would
have thought he was dreaming. Jun Lixuan pushed the rice cereal in front of
him, and coaxed, "Hurry up, it won't taste good when it's cold."
"Okay."
Ling Qiyang lowered his head to eat. After a while, he looked up and asked,
"Why didn't you act just now?"
"I’ve
seen those people. They are from Fourth Brother's household. Fourth Brother is
lecherous and a womanizer. He hired these people just to snare good-looking
women for his plays. However, they have always done this secretly. Most likely,
their successful track record in hunting woman and keeping people silent made
them more unscrupulous." Jun Lixuan wiped off the rice paste at the corner
of Ling Qiyang's mouth and continued, "If I make a move just now, this
matter will blow up into a big deal. It's a small matter to stain Fourth
Brother's image. But this matter could be blamed on Emperor Father. Fourth
Brother's abuse of power and truculence would make Emperor Father seem like a
failure of a Father and tarnish his dignified name."
Learning
of the Fourth Prince's despicable acts, Ling Qiyang's pupils widened in shock.
"How
do you know that woman is from a dignified family?" Jun Lixuan asked. If
Ling Qiyang had believed those men's words, he would never ask Jun Lixuan for
his reason of not making a move. Instead, he would feign oblivious to the
ruckus.
Ling
Qiyang smiled, "A married woman and a young lady present themselves
differently. As a doctor, I can tell them apart very easily. Even if the girl
had not entertained any man, staying in such places for some time would
subconsciously alter a person's body movements. There will be a touch of vice
in their body language. What's more, despite her embarrassment, her speech and
actions reveal a good upbringing. The is unlike people from that place. As for
those big guys, they are different from thugs in that place. Most thugs from
those places have a more nocturnal habit, and their livers lack
"yang" energy. However, those people looked fit and healthy, as if
they were raised by the rich. If there's something wrong with them, it will be
that they overeat meat, and their spleen and stomach are out of balance."
Jun
Lixuan's lips curved into a small hook, " My wife is brilliant."
Ling
Qiyang smiled and asked, "What are you going to do next?"
"I
haven't figured it out yet. This is not a big deal. We can just jump right in
and swoop her out when the sky gets dark." Jun Lixuan had absolute
confidence about his shadow guard's skill.
Ling
Qiyang thought for a while and said, "This is only a temporary solution,
and does not cure the root cause. Those people will use the name of the fourth
prince to snare girls everywhere again."
"Indeed,
letting Fourth Brother off the hook is not a good plan. We need to let Emperor
Father know about this, but not tarnish his image." Jun Lixuan looked at
his Prince Consort. He knew that Ling Qiyang had an idea when he said that. H
decided to leave the planning to his brilliant consort and asked, "Do you
have any good ideas?"
"Whether
or not the idea is good is unimportant. The effectiveness is key." A hint
of cunningness surfaced on Ling Qiyang's smile. Somehow the gap in temperament
was adorable to Jun Lixuan.
"Let's
do whatever you say." Jun Lixuan smiled indulgently.
Ling
Qiyang did not jump right at the moment he had an idea. Instead, he followed
Jun Lixuan around the market to eat and went to the teahouse for a snack. After
that, he went shopping and had a fulfilling day.
When it
got dark, the two returned home. Ling Qiyang went to his pharmacy and dug
around a bit. He then changed into black clothes and quietly followed Jun
Lixuan to sneak into the Fourth Prince's residence.
