Chapter 438: Dark Demon and the Primal Dragon
Summoning a 6-star magical spirit using a Normal Summoning Spell would take nearly an hour at Dark’s current speed—and the process couldn’t be interrupted. Thus, he opted for Tribute Summoning instead.
Fortunately, with [Greedy Slime II], Tribute Summoning had become more convenient.
“Perfect for a test,” Dark thought as he retrieved [Greedy III] and approached Trash Slime. Picking it up, he said, “I’m counting on you for this.”
“Goo-lu-lu~” Trash Slime squirmed happily in his hands.
Dark quickly activated a Normal Summoning Spell, initiating the evolution of [Greedy III]. Under a brilliant glow, Trash Slime transformed into [Greedy Slime II].
Gazing at the massive slime before him, Dark commanded, “Use [Divided We Stand].”
“Pyo!” [Greedy Slime II] wobbled slightly, and three smaller [Greedy Slime I] split off from its body.
The three [Greedy Slime I] were noticeably less intelligent, clumsier than most magical spirits. However, their purpose as sacrifices made intelligence irrelevant.
Dark immediately began his summoning. “With three 2-star magical spirits as offerings, I perform Tribute Summoning—[Blue-Eyes Young Dragon]!”
The trio of [Greedy Slime I] dissolved into light, merging with the radiance emanating from the card [Blue-Eyes Young Dragon], forming a colossal Tribute Summoning magic circle.
From within this circle emerged the mighty Blue-Eyes Young Dragon!
It was only when the dragon appeared that Dark realized the term “young” was relative. Standing nearly three meters tall—towering even over Leomon—the newly hatched dragon was far from small. Despite its round, adorable appearance and large blue eyes, its sheer size exuded an oppressive aura.
As the creation of [Pride Fruit], Blue-Eyes Young Dragon already possessed intelligence without requiring a Deadly Sin card. Unlike Gatomon, another incarnation of [Pride], the dragon seemed much less aloof.
Dark extended his hand tentatively. To his surprise, Blue-Eyes Young Dragon raised a paw and gently placed it in his palm. Although its paw dwarfed Dark’s hand, the dragon applied no pressure, instead staring intently at him as if memorizing his face.
“Perhaps its Pride is buried deep within,” Dark mused as he tickled its palm before retracting his hand. “Let’s try [Dragon Egg Transformation].”
The dragon tilted its head, then raised its hands to its head, clasping them together. Standing on one leg, it spun in a circle in a burst of joyful cries before folding its limbs like a blooming flower closing. Its outwardly radiating energy waves quickly withdrew, and its entire form rapidly contracted, transforming into a glowing, 1.5-meter-tall oval.
When the light faded, Dark found himself facing a gigantic dragon egg!
Dark picked up the [Blue-Eyes Young Dragon] magic card to check its status but froze when he noticed something odd: the card’s name had changed!
“What’s this?” he muttered, staring at the new title: [Primal Dragon Egg].
Dark wasn’t unfamiliar with such changes. Evolution often altered a magical spirit’s card, including its name, attributes, and abilities. [Honedge], for instance, experienced similar transformations when entering weapon form.
“Could it be…” His eyes narrowed as he noticed another change: the card’s star rank had dropped from 6 to 3!
This downgrade wasn’t a drawback. A 6-star magical spirit required sacrifices for rapid summoning, while a 3-star could be summoned directly with a Normal Summoning Spell.
Moreover, if [Primal Dragon Egg] could hatch into Blue-Eyes Young Dragon smoothly, it would create a new summoning pathway. Dark hypothesized that the egg might possess a unique ultimate skill distinct from the dragon itself. Infusing magic energy into the card, he examined its details.
"As expected." The information that was relayed from the magic card was indeed different!
[Card Name: Primal Dragon Egg]
Type: Spirit Card
Level: ✪✪✪
Race: Dragon-Type
Attribute: Light-Type
Magic Energy: 1500
Attack: 0
Defense: 1500
Ultimate: Hatch
“Only one ultimate skill? And it’s just [Hatch]?”
Dark’s initial excitement faded, replaced by disappointment. The egg’s stats were unremarkable for a 3-star spirit—its magic energy and defense were decent, but its attack was non-existent. And its ultimate seemed simple, implying it merely hatched into Blue-Eyes Young Dragon.
Curious about the hatching process, Dark infused more magic energy to probe deeper. To his astonishment, his frown transformed into a smile.
[Hatch: The Primal Dragon Egg holds infinite possibilities. Current accessible hatching route: Blue-Eyes Young Dragon.
[Hatching Route ①: Inject sufficient magic energy to hatch into Blue-Eyes Young Dragon.]
“This means… the egg itself is the true essence?” Dark’s realization hit him like lightning. Acting on instinct, he retrieved a [Pride III] card from his pouch and activated it.
“In the name of Dark Demon, magic summon!”
Golden light erupted from [Pride III], illuminating the dragon egg. As the light enveloped it, a colossal Pride symbol emerged on the shell, absorbing the surrounding radiance.
The Primal Dragon Egg, radiating with infinite potential, began exuding an aura of Pride. Dark focused intently, watching as cracks spread across the egg’s surface.
Finally, the egg shattered, revealing a Blue-Eyes Young Dragon adorned with dark golden stripes and a glowing Pride symbol on its wings.
Dark checked the card again, now renamed [Sin: Blue-Eyes Young Dragon]. This variant shared its predecessor’s stats and attributes but bore unique markings and an undeniable air of pride.
[Card Name: Sin: Blue-Eyes Young Dragon]
[Type: Spirit Card]
[Level: ✪✪✪✪✪✪]
[Race: Dragon-Type]
[Attribute: Light Type]
[Magic Energy: 2500]
[Attack: 3000]
[Defense: 2500]
[Ultimate: Dragon Egg Transformation, Call of the Young Dragon, Dragon's Reverse Scale, Sin's World]
"Four ultimates, and only the last one differs from the Blue-Eyes Young Dragon's ultimate. The original [Mausoleum of White] has become [Sin's World]. But since this is a Sin Dragon hatched with [Pride III], that [Sin's World] should be a Deadly Sin-related field spell card."
Dark injected more magic energy to try to gather further details about this ultimate.
[Sin's World: Sin·Blue-Eyes Young Dragon can summon the arrival of [Sin's World]. When a magical spirit possessing deadly sin power dies within [Sin's World], the residual deadly sin power will be absorbed by [Sin's World] and can be used as a sacrifice to summon a magical spirit with the same deadly sin power, but with a star rank no higher than the magical spirit that died. The duration of [Sin's World] is three minutes.]
"A special summon type of field spell skill! If [Sin's World] is activated during a battle, it can bypass the sacrifice rules and continuously summon magical spirits that meet the conditions. This is undoubtedly a field spell skill more suited to me than [Mausoleum of White]."
Dark began to understand more clearly.
"[Sin's World] should, like [Call of the Young Dragon], be a mechanism that summons magical spirits directly from the deck. However, magical spirits like [Curse Cage: DemiDevimon], [Phantom Magic Beast: Eevee], and others, which are initially unrelated to Deadly Sins, should not be able to use this special summoning mechanism."
"Either way, this is definitely an ultimate that could serve as the core of a duel. But it would be better to have multiple magical spirit cards with the same deadly sin power to pair with it."
Dark reached out and touched the scales of [Sin: Blue-Eyes Young Dragon], gaining a better understanding of it while also refining his understanding of the [Hatching] ultimate on the [Primal Dragon Egg] magic card.
"[Blue-Eyes Young Dragon] and [Sin: Blue-Eyes Young Dragon] can both be considered lower forms of [Blue-Eyes White Dragon] and [Sin: Blue-Eyes White Dragon]."
"Since [Primal Dragon Egg] has infinite possibilities, once the hatching formula is found, it should be able to unlock hatching routes for [Blue-Eyes White Dragon], [Sin: Blue-Eyes White Dragon], and even more [Blue-Eyes] subspecies!"
"Among them, [Blue-Eyes Young Dragon] is part of the standard hatching route. It only requires enough magic energy to hatch. By this reasoning, its superior form, [Blue-Eyes White Dragon], should require a higher quality of magic energy to hatch."
"Therefore, since [Sin: Blue-Eyes Young Dragon] was hatched using [Pride III], its superior form, [Sin·Blue-Eyes White Dragon], should require [Pride IV] or [Pride V] to hatch."
"[Pride IV] is the more likely option."
"In addition, I can also try other [Deadly Sin] cards to see if they unlock new hatching routes. Anyway, let's first see how long the cooldown for [Dragon Egg Transformation] is."
…
[Dragon Egg Transformation] is clearly different from [Honedge]'s [Weaponization]. Its cooldown was long, but shorter than Dark expected, about an hour.
Once the cooldown finished, Dark instructed [Sin: Blue-Eyes Young Dragon] to transform back into [Primal Dragon Egg] and proceeded to experiment with [Lust III], [Greedy III], and [Lust III: Moon].
However, besides [Pride III], none of the other [Deadly Sin III] cards could induce the hatching of [Primal Dragon Egg].
"Is it because of incompatible attributes?" Dark pondered.
"The Blue-Eyes White Dragons with blue eyes are essentially light-type, though some special subspecies are of other attributes. But they still have some other attributes."
"Or maybe it's still because the energy level is insufficient? After all, most subspecies of Blue-Eyes White Dragon are ranked 8-star or above."
"Like the two Blue-Eyes Young Dragons I've hatched, they both have limitations."
"Forget it. It's still because I don't have higher-level [Deadly Sin] cards, so I can't conduct further research."
"During the long holiday back home this time, I must figure out how to craft a template for [Deadly Sin IV] magic circle!"
With no breakthroughs in his thinking, Dark decided to temporarily set aside the research.
When he snapped out of it, it was nearly five o'clock.
"Has it really gotten this late?"
Dark patted his cheek and began tidying up the experiment table.
The magical spirit card he crafted this afternoon may not be particularly useful right now, but without a doubt, it greatly expanded his deck.
It could only be said that the future of his deck was promising.
Moreover, from an experimental perspective, [Primal Dragon Egg] had another special significance.
By hatching various subspecies of Blue-Eyes, he could use these subspecies as a foundation to research and craft more magical spirit cards for different Blue-Eyes subspecies.
This could be seen as a "chicken-and-egg" approach.
If he could maintain this strategy, he would eventually be able to build a powerful [Blue-Eyes Deck].
At that point, he might even challenge Pandora for the title of "Ruler of White Dragons."
Overall, Dark was very satisfied.
He recorded the results of this experiment and planned to return in the evening to craft the next [Lust III: Moon].
As for the Blue-Eyes Young Dragon he had just crafted... it would have to stay in the magic card for now.
…
On the first Wednesday of the final month of the first year, Professor Medea loaded the pre-prepared teaching instruments onto the cart, ready to surprise her lovely students tonight.
The students had already learned earlier that tonight's astronomy class would assign the final project, so they were all prepared, heading up the Spiral Clock Tower before 7 o'clock and eagerly discussing the final project in the classroom.
"I heard that starting from the second year, astronomy will become an elective, and it will be available for formal selection. I wonder if Professor Medea will still be around?" Dark, while petting Eevee, spoke to Dianna and Rose.
