Chapter 439: Dark Demon and Star Palace Labyrinth 2 in 1
Dianna and Rose had no way of guessing Professor Medea’s intentions. The two shook their heads slightly.
"I just hope Professor Medea’s end-of-term assignment won’t be too difficult." Dianna muttered.
Rose whispered, "It shouldn’t be too hard, right? After all, astronomy is just an elective class for fun..."
“You two shouldn’t take it too lightly,” Dark shook his head and warned, “Professor Medea isn’t the type to go easy on students, and she did mention that this astronomy assessment will count towards the final grade.”
Dianna immediately gasped, “Huh? Did she really say that?”
Rose’s face slightly fell as she said with hesitation, “I think I vaguely remember something like that...”
While the students were fiercely discussing this, the clock ticked to 7:30 PM, and the class bell rang.
Professor Medea arrived on time, as always, right on the dot.
She descended into the classroom on her signature pumpkin carriage through the open ceiling. However, the Blood Princess, who used to secretly follow her to class, was no longer with her.
Alone, Medea Bartholomew walked to the front of the cathedral-style classroom. With a wave of her wand, a series of crystal balls, each the size of a human head, floated out of the carriage.
She waved her hand again, and twelve crystal balls lined up in front of her.
As the students exchanged puzzled glances, Professor Medea squinted her eyes and smiled. “The end of the semester is approaching fast. I’ve greatly enjoyed my time with all of you since joining Saint Marian Academy. But, including tonight, there are only four astronomy classes left this term. I know many of you may not want to face it, but the inevitable must come. Tonight, I’ll be assigning the final project for this semester, which I hope you’ll complete and submit within a month.”
Since this had been hinted at before, the students weren’t too surprised.
Professor Medea turned to the blackboard and wrote the words "Constellations" on it. She then said, “Tonight’s topic is constellations. In previous lessons, I briefly introduced this subject, but we didn’t delve deep. The movements of the sun, moon, and stars in the universe influence the rise and fall of all things, even human fate. Constellations have always been closely tied to astrology.
“We all know that everyone has a corresponding zodiac sign from birth, commonly known as the Twelve Zodiac Signs.
“Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces.
“What we typically call someone’s zodiac sign is chosen from these twelve based on their birth time.
“These twelve signs, as the primary zodiac signs, are the most well-known. But in reality, the universe contains a total of eighty-eight constellations.
“In recent years, more and more astrologers have discovered that the zodiac signs from the Twelve Houses of the Zodiac only describe a person’s outward destiny. To truly understand one’s fate, one must look more broadly, encompassing the full eighty-eight constellations.
“Astrologers define the twelve zodiac signs as the 'Surface Constellations,' while the broader eighty-eight constellations are called the 'Inner Constellations.'
“And for our final project this semester, you will focus on these eighty-eight Inner Constellations!
“You’ll need to identify your own Inner Constellation and use it to make a prediction for the upcoming holiday period.”
Professor Medea raised her wand, pointing it at the twelve crystal balls in front of her. With a gentle motion, the twelve crystal balls suddenly began to split.
When the splitting stopped, there were now eighty-eight crystal balls floating in mid-air.
She raised her hand, and the eighty-eight crystal balls ascended, spreading out and coming together to form a massive star map.
Sitting in the front row, Emma raised her hand.
Professor Medea asked, “Mortis, do you have a question?”
Emma, as usual, stood up and asked, “Professor, how do we identify our Inner Constellation?”
Seeing her active participation, Professor Medea smiled and replied, “There are many ways to confirm your Inner Constellation. In fact, each astrologer has their own method, and the results can vary. Personally, I like to create a Star Palace Labyrinth, allowing people to discover their Inner Constellation through their inner selves. That’s what we’ll be exploring in this class.”
“A Star Palace Labyrinth,” Emma repeated curiously. “Is it like an illusion?”
Professor Medea gestured for her to sit down and continued, “Your guess is close, but it’s more akin to a dream. When a person enters a dream, their inner and outer personas separate, allowing them to follow their true heart. The dream will guide them to find the constellation that resonates most with them.”
“Tonight, we have ninety minutes. I’ll spend thirty minutes teaching you some foundational knowledge, and then you’ll have sixty minutes to enter the Star Palace Labyrinth and search for your Inner Constellation.
“I hope this journey through the Star Palace Labyrinth will help you not only find your Inner Constellation but also glimpse your destiny for the coming months.”
…
Professor Medea’s tone wasn’t particularly enthusiastic, but her simple explanation captivated the students, drawing them in.
Their curiosity about the secrets of the “Inner Constellations” and the “Star Palace Labyrinth” made them eager to learn.
Dark’s heart was equally filled with curiosity.
He had known about the existence of eighty-eight constellations from the start, but the concept of “Surface Constellations” and “Inner Constellations” seemed unique to this world.
“According to Professor Medea, Surface Constellations are just superficial. The Inner Constellations hold the true essence of one’s fate.
“Let’s see... I was born on June 6th, which makes my Surface Constellation Gemini in the Twelve Zodiac Signs. But for my Inner Constellation… Pegasus? As long as it’s not Cancer, I’m fine!”
Dark booped Eevee’s little nose playfully, saying, “I wonder what your Inner Constellation will be?”
Eevee tilted its head, indicating that it wanted to focus and listen to the lecture seriously.
…
Half an hour later, Professor Medea finished her lecture on the basics. She pointed her hand, and the eighty-eight crystal balls flew to the edges of the classroom, spinning rapidly under her control. They emitted a nebula-like glow, forming an intricate star chart.
Looking at the eager faces of the students, Professor Medea’s lips curled into a slight smile as she said, “Relax your minds. Don’t resist. I will now guide you into the Star Palace Labyrinth and begin your journey.”
Her voice gradually softened and became ethereal, transforming into a unique chant. This mystical tone resonated through the entire classroom, accompanied by the surging of magic energy.
Each of the eighty-eight crystal balls began to glow with constellations at their centers.
From the core of the formation, starlight radiated outward like a nebula, and the entire star chart began to rotate, morphing into a vast, deep starry sky.
The young magisters in the classroom appeared as though they were under the stars. Their minds gradually emptied, and their eyes slowly closed.
Eevee glanced back at its owner, who had already shut his eyes, then mimicked him by lying on the desk and closing its eyes.
The starlight pouring down from above enveloped it, too.
A mysterious energy ripple spread through the room, pulling everyone except Professor Medea into a dreamlike world.
…
Dark felt as though his soul had been cleansed, and his whole body became light as air. When he opened his eyes again, he was somewhere entirely different.
“So this is the Star Palace Labyrinth?”
Snapping out of his daze, he realized he was in a world filled with mirrors.
The entire space seemed fractured into countless fragments, with dazzling, colorful light reflecting off the broken mirror surfaces.
Red, green, yellow...
An overwhelming blend of colors crashed into his senses.
It took Dark about thirty seconds to adjust to this fragmented world and the kaleidoscope of colors.
When he looked down to examine himself, he discovered that his body had transformed into a fluffy creature!
“Seriously?”
This shocking revelation didn’t terrify Dark, but he couldn’t help but groan inwardly as he scrutinized his stubby hands and feet.
Although still upright, his limbs had shrunk significantly. The pink paw pads in his palms were irresistibly cute, tempting him to press them against his cheeks.
“Am I a cat? Or a dog?”
Dark tried walking a few steps but found his limbs awkward and uncoordinated, causing him to stumble.
He quickly accepted this strange setting and found a reflective surface among the mirrors around him. Finally, he saw his full appearance.
The boy in the mirror had transformed into a short-legged, golden-furred cat.
The cat blinked, and its emerald-green eyes sparkled in the light.
…
“I’ve turned into a cat?”
Sitting down behind the desk, Professor Medea chuckled softly as she observed the adorable kitten displayed on the desk’s projection screen.
The typical Star Palace Labyrinth didn’t have a feature that turned participants into animals, but how boring would it be if it were ordinary?
Watching the young magisters, who usually pretended to be little adults, turn into adorable animals and stumble clumsily around the labyrinth was endlessly entertaining.
Professor Medea shifted her gaze, and the projection on her desk changed to show other participants.
Dianna had turned into a fluffy white bear, Rose into a pink rabbit, Emma into a bucktoothed otter, Robert into a shaggy puppy, and White into a round-headed fawn...
Each young magister waddled around on their short legs, their antics both silly and endearing.
“Wait a moment!”
Suddenly, her brows twitched as she noticed an anomaly.
A little brown-haired cutie, appearing about two or three years old, was wobbling along in the labyrinth.
….
“( • o • )”
Little Eevee stared at its reflection in the mirror, repeatedly raising its chubby hands for inspection. After a long pause, it finally accepted the reality: it had transformed into a human form.
While every human had turned into an animal, the only animal participant had turned into a human.
Eevee blinked and struggled to adapt to walking upright. Looking bewildered, it began to navigate the surreal labyrinth.
The journey through the Star Palace Labyrinth was limited to sixty minutes.
If one failed to find their corresponding constellation within this time, the end-of-term project would have to rely on pure imagination.
Naturally, that wouldn’t result in a high grade.
However, since astronomy was fundamentally an elective course, there was no risk of failing, nor any mandatory remedial classes the following year. At most, a poor grade would look bad on paper.
For Eevee, though, there was nothing to lose.
Still, its desire to achieve a high score was no less intense than that of any student.
As the only magical spirit allowed to attend classes with Dark, Eevee took great pride in this, even if it didn’t say so out loud.
Wednesday evening astronomy classes were the highlight of its week.
Despite the challenges, it worked hard to keep up.
Anyone who put in extra effort naturally hoped for results and praise from someone they cared about.
Eevee was no exception.
Moreover, it wanted to perform well to ensure that Dark would continue taking astronomy in his second year!
After searching for five or six minutes, Eevee suddenly stopped in front of a mirror. An inexplicable feeling drew it toward the mirror, and it couldn’t help but reach out. As soon as its hand touched the surface, the mirror pulled it in.
…
The world shifted.
Dark Demon, after much observation, also reached out to touch one of the mirrors.
His hand passed through effortlessly, confirming that each mirror served as a doorway to another place.
Without hesitation, he waddled through the mirror in front of him.
On the other side, the scenery transformed completely.
The new world had fewer shattered mirrors and colors than before.
Turning around, Dark found that the mirror he had just passed through had disappeared.
He didn’t panic. After circling his surroundings twice, he chose another mirror and stepped through.
After repeating this process several times, Dark noticed that the shattered parts of the world were decreasing, and the vibrant colors were gradually fading. The world grew simpler and more monotonous, leaving only a single path ahead.
Without hesitation, he entered this singular path and followed its winding course.
It was unclear how much time had passed.
Walls quietly rose on either side of the passage, eventually becoming transparent and turning into smooth mirrors.
When he turned his head, countless reflections of himself appeared in the mirrors.
A sudden unease stirred in his heart.
Dark quickly turned back, fixing his gaze ahead.
He couldn’t be sure if his classmates’ journeys mirrored his own, but in that brief moment of looking into the mirrors, he had felt an infinite, terrifying sense of extension—as if countless versions of himself across infinite timelines were marching in sync.
Only those who glimpse destiny can truly perceive its terror.
—To glimpse fate is to feel its terrifying weight.
