Chapter 47: The Half-Knowledge Eye Saves the Day!

"..."

At Viya's utterly incomprehensible words, the woman's expression instantly became a mix of shock and disbelief.

Viya lifted the little girl in her hand slightly. "Name, origin, purpose... You have one minute to dispel my hostility."

"Trust me, this Void Domain creature’s neck will snap before you even make a move."

"...Don’t attack!" The woman raised her hands to show she meant no harm, her mind racing.

"Edith Frost, employed at Lankton Detective Agency. You can verify all of this easily."

She glanced at the dangling little girl. "That’s not a Void Domain creature; that’s my sister. She’s human."

"How do you prove it?"

This question left Edith momentarily stumped. It was like being asked to prove your own identity—simple in theory but maddeningly difficult in practice.

After a moment of thought, she replied calmly, "It’s simple. Creatures in the Past Island wouldn’t know they’re just projections. Any illogical information gets distorted or blurred."

"The fact that I can tell we're currently on a Void Domain island is proof enough."

"So, there’s no need for us to be hostile. Working together to clear this island benefits everyone the most."

You talk a lot, so you must be right… Lin Qi believed her, as there was no health bar above her head.

He still didn’t fully understand how health bars worked, but experience told him that anyone with a health bar wasn’t exactly trustworthy.

Of course, those without health bars weren’t necessarily good people either.

"Viya Fanyar. That’s my name."

Viya spoke indifferently, lowering the little girl, who scrambled back to Edith.

She had done her basic research on the Void Domain. Unlike artificial Void Domains, these islands weren’t private—it was completely normal to encounter challengers from all over the world.

"You seem to be only at First Ring… Where are your other three teammates?"

When Edith mentioned "First Ring," there was a hint of uncertainty in her tone.

An ordinary First Ring shouldn’t have been able to pull off that earlier strike. From her position in the shadows, she’d had the upper hand.

More importantly, the opponent’s reaction hadn’t matched that of a typical First Ring novice. After noticing enemies behind her, she had seamlessly executed a feint, dodge, and grapple.

If Edith had judged solely by the movements, she might have mistaken her for one of her boss’s seasoned veterans.

"There’s another First Ring teammate somewhere. No idea where."

Lin Qi had bound the Half-Knowledge Eye to the Q key, and he’d practically mashed it to death by now, yet there was no sign of a fourth person.

"Two people? How is that possible?"

Edith was slightly surprised but quickly accepted it after considering the strength of the person before her.

The association always favored the capable.

"But if that’s the case, how do you plan to handle the Night Tide?" she asked, puzzled.

"Night Tide?"

"You don’t know about the Night Tide… Wait, how did you even enter this island?" Edith suddenly realized something and pressed urgently.

In Tier Two Void Domains, deaths came with penalties, so explorers at this stage usually prepared "tokens." Simply stepping into the appropriate level of Void Domain would transport them directly to their designated island.

Explorers who moved step by step were common in Level 1 Void Domains or artificial ones but venturing into higher-level domains without preparation was practically suicidal.

"Luck."

Viya uttered the word indifferently.

"..." Edith was speechless. Clearing her throat, she said, "It looks like I can share some practical information with you."

"This island is called 'Death Corridor.' As the name suggests, it’s essentially an endless hallway. Every so often, monsters spawn from the darkness. We’ll need light sources to fend them off."

"Of course, it hasn’t started yet. Once we open our Void Domain envelopes or explore forward, monsters will appear in the shadows."

Edith spoke quickly but clearly.

As Viya listened, she reached into her pocket, unsurprised to find a letter waiting inside. She pulled it out, opened it, and scanned its contents.

[A hotel on Falox Street. Legend has it that there’s a corridor within. If you reach the end, even the worst sins will be forgiven, and even forsaken souls will be redeemed.]

[Objective 1: Explore 20% of the corridor.]

[Objective 2: Kill the informant (optional).]

[Objective 3: Ensure no more than one death by the time you clear the stage (optional).]

[Objective 4: Rescue the stranded (optional).]

Combining this with Edith’s clues, the island’s challenges and objectives became clear… Viya nodded inwardly.

"What exactly is the Night Tide?" she found herself asking.

"You can think of it as a large-scale shadow assault. When it happens, our goal shifts from advancing to survival."

Edith was happy to explain further to her temporary teammate.

Earlier, when they clashed, Viya had seemed troublesome—but now, having her on the same side felt reassuring.

"To keep the light source active, someone needs to hold it with both hands."

Edith slashed at the ceiling light. The outer glass shattered, and a dim candle fell down.

She picked up the candle, handed it to her sister Ivy, and ruffled her hair. "Stay behind us and hold the candle tightly when the time comes."

"Mm," Ivy murmured in agreement.

Viya looked at the sisters and casually remarked, "You bring a dead weight along when exploring the Void Domain?"

"Ivy isn’t a dead weight," Edith corrected. "She’s useful, just not in combat."

Holding Ivy’s hand, she walked forward. The pale light drove away the shadows, creating a small circle of safety with a two-meter radius.

As they advanced, the growls around them grew louder, as if a ring of monsters encircled their prey, waiting for the light to fade before pouncing.

Indeed, several highlighted figures lurked in the shadows, avoiding the light and slowly crawling around them.

Viya turned her gaze back to Edith. "Do you have any spare weapons?"

Weapons… Edith was surprised. Hesitantly, she nodded. "There’s a staff, but it can double as a melee weapon."

A point of light coalesced in her hand, forming a long-handled weapon. It resembled less of a staff and more of a massive halberd.

This staff had always been kept as a backup weapon, but since her teammate needed it, there was no harm in handing it over early.

Still, Edith couldn’t fathom why anyone would enter the Void Domain unarmed. Wasn’t that like going to the bathroom without toilet paper?

"Thank you."

Viya took the staff, twirling it effortlessly in two smooth circles, exuding practiced ease.

Suddenly, she reversed the tip and thrust it into the darkness behind them. Before Edith could understand what was happening, a pained cry echoed from the shadows.

"Not bad."

Viya calmly retracted the staff. Its tip was now stained with black blood, and several grotesque black claws reached out from the darkness, accompanied by spine-chilling roars.

But deterred by the light, the claws reluctantly withdrew.

"You can see the monsters in the dark?"

Edith stared at the black blood on the staff’s tip. Even a fool could tell whose blood it was.

What she couldn’t figure out was how Viya had detected the monster lurking in the darkness behind them.

Was it sheer luck? Or some special reconnaissance laureate?
