Chapter 211: Here’s a Hundred Widow Mines for You
Perhaps the word "humiliation" didn’t exist in the snake’s lexicon, but anger—a primal emotion shared by all sentient beings—had now consumed it entirely. Its rage was an unstoppable inferno.
With a powerful flick of its massive tail, the serpent propelled itself into the air, jaws unhinging as the worm-like structure that replaced its tongue shot forward. Razor-sharp fangs spread wide, and with one swift motion, the enormous maw engulfed the 30-meter-long “balloon” whole.
Housen and Churchill aboard the Medivac froze, their faces blank with disbelief. In the distance, Walton and Claire were equally stunned. Had Tang Fang and Arroz just been swallowed? Just like that?
“No!” Housen roared, lunging forward instinctively. Behind him, Churchill clung desperately to his leg, gritting his teeth and refusing to let go no matter what.
Walton collapsed to the ground, his entire body trembling violently. “How… how is this possible?” he muttered under his breath.
Had he really died? Claire’s face turned ashen. She pressed her hands tightly over her mouth, feeling an unbearable emptiness in her chest. Everything felt surreal, like a dream too vivid to be real. Tang Fang… dead? She couldn’t accept it. A tidal wave of despair crashed over her, drowning her in sorrow.
“Plop, plop.” Tears streamed down her cheeks like broken crystal beads, falling onto her trembling hands and the back of the Overseer beneath her.
“Hmm…” Perhaps sensing the moisture of her tears, the Overseer emitted a soft hum.
Wait… wait. Something struck Claire. Tang Fang had once told her that if he lost consciousness, his biological weapons would lose all command. But then… why were they still active?
She hastily wiped away her tears and looked toward the circular platform. It was empty, devoid of life, save for the scattered wreckage and the epic serpent lying there. Left side, right side—nothing. Tang Fang, where are you? Where could you possibly be?
Silence. No response. Just as Claire began to spiral into panic, unsure of what to do next, the colossal snake—which moments ago had been gloating after swallowing the Overlord—suddenly convulsed. Its roar cut off abruptly.
Then, its bloated abdomen swelled dramatically, resembling an out-of-control inflatable tube. Massive bulges rippled through its body, stretching the 800-meter-long frame until it looked like an overinflated bicycle tire on the verge of bursting.
“Squeak, squeak, squeak…” The serpent’s roar transformed into a pitiful wail. Claire had never heard such a horrifying sound from the creature before. Its body writhed and twisted, its tail thrashing left and right.
But no matter how hard it struggled, it couldn’t contain the runaway energy within.
“Gurgle, gurgle, gurgle…” The wails grew weaker, fading into gasps. The snake’s body expanded grotesquely, doubling in size, morphing from a sleek predator into something grotesquely porcine.
“Boom, boom, boom.” Muffled explosions echoed from within its belly. Finally, the strain became too much. The already-stretched abdomen—now nearly 200 meters wide—contracted violently, only to explode outward like a ruptured balloon. Under immense pressure, the resilient skin tore apart, releasing a fiery inferno that erupted like a volcanic blast.
The shockwave widened the wound further, spewing chunks of flesh, bone fragments, flames, smoke, and debris everywhere.
“Thud.” The massive head slammed onto the platform floor, the worm-like structure shooting out as its mandibles flipped open. Torrents of flame poured from its gaping maw.
“Boom, boom, boom…” Explosions rang out continuously, waves of fire radiating outward through the gaping hole in its body. Red cracks snaked along the underside of the snake, eventually connecting into a single line. The resulting shockwave ripped open a 100-meter-wide fissure in its belly. The force slammed against the platform, flipping the snake’s enormous body sideways, leaving it sprawled lifelessly on its side.
The serpent was dead—utterly and completely. Its belly torn open, its organs incinerated, even its spine shattered beyond repair.
The nuclear-like detonations raged on for nearly fifteen minutes before finally subsiding. By then, the snake’s body had split nearly in half. Its head lay limp on the ground, part of the worm-like structure exposed. What remained of its once-white fangs were charred black, while foul-smelling blood continued to ooze from its jaws.
“D-dead… it’s dead?” The sudden turn of events left Claire and the others utterly dumbfounded.
Yes, the serpent was dead—but where was Tang Fang? Where was he? At this point, none of them believed he’d truly been swallowed and killed alongside the beast.
“Tsk, tsk, tsk, talk about bad luck,” came a familiar voice. From amidst a pile of metallic debris 500 meters away—not the junk moving, but rather the image shimmering—a figure stepped out, passing through the hologram.
There was no mistaking that voice. Who else could it be?
However, unlike the relief and joy felt by Claire and the others, Tang Fang stood there shaking himself off, clearly annoyed. Behind him, Arroz mirrored his expression, performing the same disgusted motions.
When the serpent’s belly burst from the chain reactions of the Widow Mines, torrents of shredded meat and viscous fluids gushed out of the gaping wound. Tang Fang and Arroz had taken cover 500 meters away—a distance neither close enough nor far enough. If the rupture had occurred on the upper side of the snake’s body, ejecting debris upward, they might have avoided getting hit. But alas, the 100-meter-long tear had formed on the underside of the serpent, and the recoil from the explosive force flipped the corpse, sending chunks of colorful entrails and putrid blood splattering all over them.
Though clad in powered armor, both men still felt profoundly uncomfortable.
“Thunk, thunk.” Housen and Churchill leapt down from the Medivac.
In the distance, Walton and Claire piloted their hovercrafts back to the circular platform.
“Heh, I knew it,” Housen laughed heartily. “You’re slicker than a monkey. There’s no way some oversized worm could’ve swallowed you whole.”
Churchill shot him a glare, huffing indignantly. “Don’t give me that crap. If I hadn’t held you back earlier, you’d have gone straight to hell with your ‘big worm.’” He pointed accusingly at the bruises on his face. “And damn you for kicking me square in the face!”
“Heh, heh, my bad, totally accidental,” Housen chuckled sheepishly.
“Accidental my ass.”
As the two bickered, Walton and Claire approached. Claire’s eyes were red-rimmed, and she immediately launched into a tirade. “You jerk! Is this some kind of game to you? Do you think this is funny?”
“I… I forgot,” Tang Fang replied sheepishly, scratching his head in confusion. He’d never seen Claire so furious. “It was just a little mistake. Did I really deserve this reaction?”
“Oh?” Claire narrowed her eyes dangerously. “What did you say?”
