Chapter 200: Yuan Xiaoxiao’s Resentment
In the end, Wang Ping didn’t call the police—not because he decided to let Yuan Xiaoxiao off the hook or couldn’t find a phone, but because he suddenly remembered that he literally couldn’t speak.
When he returned to the room, Gu Lang was still in the bathroom, grumbling as he scrubbed his face with body wash, which was now red and raw from being rubbed too hard. Meanwhile, Little Four had drawn an “Indian map” on the bedsheet and now sat pouting, whimpering pitifully whenever Wang Ping glanced at it.
Wang Ping stared at the chaotic mess of footprints on the bedsheet, unsure whether he should apologize for abandoning the poor creature or just punish it for its antics.
By the time night fell and the city lights began to glow, Gu Lang led Wang Ping and Little Four to a private dining room at a restaurant called Wanjia Xiaochu. They ordered a feast that filled the table, devouring everything with gusto. Little Four occasionally protested with soft whimpers, unhappy about being confined to licking egg custard while the others ate freely. However, considering its earlier "artwork" on the bedsheet, its complaints lacked conviction.
---
Back at the guesthouse, in one of the lit rooms on the first floor, Yuan Xiaoxiao sat cross-legged on the bed clad only in her underwear. She held up a makeup mirror and carefully applied various cosmetics to her face. On the bedside table lay the paratrooper knife alongside three gleaming wolf fangs—part of the set she’d extracted from the black wolf king’s corpse. Even in death, the mighty alpha hadn’t been allowed to keep its teeth.
As Yuan Xiaoxiao worked, her features transformed once again. Applying new prosthetics, she sharpened her jawline and altered her appearance entirely. A golden wig lay discarded on the bed beside her, along with a box of colored contact lenses.
If Wang Ping could see her now, he would have recognized her resemblance to "Christina," the woman in the foreign passport—save for the difference in eye color. Their faces and contours were nearly identical.
After meticulously applying makeup until no trace of artificiality remained, Yuan Xiaoxiao opened the contact lens case and inserted a pair of blue lenses into her eyes. Donning the wig, she turned her head side to side, admiring her reflection in the mirror before breaking into a satisfied smile.
Setting down the mirror, she reached under the bed for her travel bag and pulled out a set of clothes and the waterproof pouch containing the passports. But as soon as she lifted the pouch, her expression froze.
Inside, a yellowish liquid pooled at the corners, occasionally dripping out as she moved. The clothes inside were damp and smelled faintly of something familiar yet acrid. Narrowing her eyes, Yuan Xiaoxiao opened the pouch and removed the passports. Flipping open Christina’s, she found the pages completely ruined—soaked through and shredded into strips of useless paper.
“Thud!”
She threw the soaked passport against the glass shower door, where it stuck limply. Checking the others, she discovered they were all equally destroyed.
“Fuck!”
Furious, she tossed the pile of ruined passports aside and remembered the ID card belonging to “Yuan Xiaoxiao” tucked inside her windbreaker pocket. Frantically rummaging through the garment, she sighed in relief when her fingers brushed against the familiar hard plastic. But upon retrieving it, her relief vanished instantly. A screw-sized hole pierced the photo right through her fake face.
“…”
Slumping forward, resting her hand on her forehead, Yuan Xiaoxiao felt tears welling up. But then, her nose caught a strange scent—familiar, yet sharp and unpleasant. Bringing her hand closer to sniff, her face darkened with rage.
“Splash!”
She swept everything off the bed onto the floor and rushed into the bathroom, turning on the faucet to wash her hands furiously. Muttering curses under her breath, she vowed revenge.
“If I ever find out who did this, I’ll kill them!”
---
Meanwhile, back at the restaurant, Wang Ping—who had been sprawled lifelessly in his chair after dinner—suddenly let out a massive sneeze. A spray of unknown liquid shot from his tiny nose in an arc, landing squarely in Gu Lang’s half-finished bowl of soup.
Gu Lang: …
Looking up at Wang Ping, who merely sniffled without apology, Gu Lang sighed and set aside his soup. “Boss, are you catching a cold?”
“A cold?”
Wang Ping grabbed a napkin to wipe his nose, suspecting it might be due to going outside with wet fur after his bath earlier. Seeing Gu Lang waiting for a response, Wang Ping nodded casually, thinking it wouldn’t hurt to ask for some medicine.
“Waiter!”
Gu Lang got up and left the room, asking nearby staff, “Where’s the nearest pet hospital?”
“Isn’t that overkill?” Wang Ping muttered, scratching his head. Turning to Little Four, who looked startled by the sudden sneeze, he scooped the pup up and gave him a rough rubdown.
“Ow~!”
A disgruntled yelp echoed through the private room.
There wasn’t a pet hospital in Rutog County—only a veterinary station. However, fearing injections, Wang Ping flatly refused to go. Instead, he rummaged through the first aid kit in their guesthouse room, asking Gu Lang to fetch cold medicine. Cautious not to overdose him, Gu Lang administered half a pill, watching as Wang Ping swallowed it with warm water.
---
The next day, Gu Lang went out to rent a tow truck to retrieve the abandoned Jeep from the plateau. Meanwhile, Wang Ping stayed behind with Little Four, watching movies on the fully charged tablet. After a while, the restless puppy grew drowsy, curling up on the bed and closing its eyes.
Seeing the opportunity, Wang Ping quietly lowered the volume, slipped off the bed, and crept toward the window to investigate Yuan Xiaoxiao’s room again. Unfortunately, by the time he scaled the wall and peeked inside, the room was empty except for a cleaning staff tidying up.
“Tsk, missed her…”
Hanging precariously on the outer wall of the guesthouse, Wang Ping shook his head in disappointment.
---
A hundred kilometers away from Rutog County, in the desolate northern foothills of the Himalayas, a small figure trudged uphill, lugging an oversized backpack. Thinking about how she could have comfortably boarded a plane instead of climbing this cursed mountain, Yuan Xiaoxiao clenched her teeth in anger. Yet, beneath her fury lurked a growing sense of unease. That room had been her secret safehouse—no one should have known about it. Whoever sabotaged her belongings clearly possessed more information than she realized.
“Damn bastard!”
“Ah… choo!”
Back in their room, Wang Ping sneezed again.
“Still not feeling better?” Wang Ping frowned, rushing to dig through Gu Lang’s first aid kit once more.
