Chapter 207: A Disappointingly Weak Finale?

Indeed, if this continued for another minute, the Medivac and Overlord would become the serpent’s next meal. As for Claire and the others, they were mere morsels sandwiched between layers of destruction.

“Damn it, is running away even an option anymore?” Tang Fang resisted the urge to flip off the colossal snake as he unleashed ten Siege Tanks, ten Stalkers, and ten Dragoons. Seizing the moment before the force fields dissipated, he directed them all to focus fire on the snake’s vulnerable underbelly.

“Boom… Boom!” Twin bursts of plasma from the 90mm cannons exploded against the serpent’s neck, sending fountains of superheated plasma spraying outward like molten fireworks. The Stalker’s particle beams and the Dragoon’s phase-splitting projectiles struck moments later, erupting into cascading bursts of silver light crackling with electric energy.

“Hiss…” The snake let out a guttural cry, its suction abruptly ceasing. Its anguished roar tore through the air as chunks of bloody flesh rained down, splattering heavily onto the platform with dull thuds.

The siege tanks had left blackened craters along its neck, and crimson fluids poured out like a summer storm, pooling into revolting puddles across the ground. Yet despite the ferocity of the assault, Tang Fang’s heart sank. What kind of material was this creature made of? Plasma cannons capable of obliterating a Rhino main battle tank in two shots barely left meter-wide wounds on its scales. Even the normally unstoppable Stalkers and Dragoons struggled; their particle beams failed to pierce its thick hide, leaving only shallow gashes, while the phase-splitting rounds merely shredded its skin without penetrating deeper.

Though bloodied and battered, the snake showed no signs of yielding. Despite the thirty units’ relentless bombardment carving a twenty-meter-long ulcerous scar across its body, such damage was trivial compared to its eighty-meter-thick neck—a mere scratch.

“Move! What are you waiting for? Go!” Tang Fang shouted over his shoulder. Behind him, the Medivac carrying Housen and Churchill still hovered hesitantly, but Claire and Walton—obeying Tang Fang’s commands—had already been carried far from the battlefield by their respective vehicles.

“You either get your ass up here or we’re coming down there,” Housen growled through the comms.

“To hell with you! If you want to die, be my guest.” With no time for arguments, Tang Fang quickly signaled Arroz to retreat from the collapsing force field. In one swift motion, he summoned twenty more Siege Tanks, ten additional Dragoons, and ten more Stalkers to the opposite side of the circular platform.

But he didn’t stop there. Shadows flickered in the sky as squadrons of Vikings appeared overhead, diving like a tidal wave toward the still-writhing serpent. They unleashed volleys of MT50 Lanzel rockets, which streaked downward in trails of smoke before slamming into the snake’s exposed belly. Explosions erupted in rapid succession, engulfing the beast in flames and smoke.

The massive size of the serpent made it an easy target. Thirty Vikings, thirty tanks, twenty Dragoons, and twenty Stalkers unleashed a symphony of destruction upon it. Waves of explosions rippled across its body, drowning it in fire and soot. The once-pristine circular platform was now a chaotic warzone. Sentry units deployed overlapping force fields around the serpent, shielding the relentless barrage of attacks raining down from tanks, Stalkers, Dragoons, and aerial Viking squads above.

The battlefield roared with continuous detonations, plasma orbs, missiles, and phase weapons turning the area into a swirling sea of deathly light. Had there been more space to maneuver, Tang Fang would have summoned every single unit at his disposal. At this point, he refused to believe that combining Terran, Protoss, and Zerg forces wouldn’t carve out an escape route.

One hundred Banelings stood ready in his system inventory, waiting for deployment. While individually weak, sheer numbers could overwhelm even the mightiest foe. Quantity had a quality of its own, and Tang Fang intended to bury the serpent under a mountain of corpses if necessary.

“Roar…” After enduring the relentless barrage, perhaps numb to the pain or driven by fury, the serpent issued a piercing cry. A gale-force wind erupted from its mouth, tearing through the smoky haze. Its long tail swept across the ground, shattering the Sentries’ force fields like fragile soap bubbles.

This time, it ignored the Medivacs and Arroz entirely, focusing solely on Tang Fang. The snake reared back, then lunged downward from hundreds of meters in the air, charging straight toward the source of its torment.

Reacting instantly, Tang Fang summoned a Hellion and leapt aboard, gripping control tightly. The vehicle roared forward, tires screeching as it drifted sideways, leaving skid marks on the platform. The serpent’s strike missed, its lumbering bulk unable to match the nimble Hellion’s agility.

“Growl.” Frustrated, the serpent shook its battered head and surged forward again. Two Siege Tanks caught in its path were flipped effortlessly, tumbling over a hundred meters before grinding to a halt. For a creature of such immense size, the tanks were nothing more than insects beneath its feet. The Dragoons and Stalkers fared little better; those struck by its tail survived thanks to their plasma shields, but any unlucky enough to be crushed faced certain annihilation.

“Arroz, get on the Medivac! I can’t hold it off forever!” Tang Fang shouted, steering the Hellion erratically to evade the serpent’s relentless assaults while urging Arroz to flee.

Recognizing the urgency of the situation, the veteran soldier sprinted toward a retreating Siege Tank bombarding the serpent from afar. Leaping aboard, he sped toward a Medivac hovering near the edge of the platform.

Tang Fang had known the serpent possessed intelligence, but once again, he underestimated its capabilities. Not only did it think, but it also understood human speech. Slipping past its attacks was simple enough for Tang Fang, but Arroz, perched atop the tank, was a sitting duck.

The serpent twisted its massive form, its tail sweeping outward. Equipment, transport vehicles, and shuttle wreckage flew in all directions like shrapnel. The Hellion swerved wildly, narrowly avoiding the debris.

However, the real target wasn’t the vehicle—it was Arroz, the ant attempting to reach safety aboard the Medivac.

The serpent froze momentarily, its neck arching upward as two enormous fangs protruded from its upper jaw.

“This isn’t good—it’s about to unleash something big!” Tang Fang’s mind raced. Given the Siege Tank’s limited mobility, escaping the serpent’s range in time was impossible.

“Arroz, jump!” Tang Fang yelled, ordering the Viking squadron to initiate strafing runs and directing several tanks to concentrate fire on the serpent’s exposed palate.

“Roar!” Ignoring the hailstorm of explosions above, the serpent unleashed twin torrents of emerald-green liquid from its fangs. Each stream was four meters wide, arcing high into the air before cascading down like toxic rain.

“Boom… Sizzle…” As the tanks pounded the serpent with artillery, the viscous green fluid splattered everywhere—onto the ground, the tanks, the Stalkers, and the Dragoons.

“Gurgle… Gurgle…” Contrary to expectations, the liquid lacked corrosive properties. Instead, it bubbled violently, forming emerald spheres that exploded outward, splashing sticky residue in all directions.

Thanks to Tang Fang’s warning, Arroz had already leapt clear of the tank. Though puzzled by the seemingly harmless nature of the liquid—no corrosion, no toxicity—he knew better than to assume the serpent was simply venting frustration. Stimulant coursing through his veins kept his reflexes razor-sharp. Dodging the falling droplets with acrobatic precision, he rolled, dove, and flipped his way to safety.

Others weren’t so fortunate. Some Siege Tanks and Protoss units found themselves drenched in the emerald goo, immobilized under the sticky coating.

Watching the bizarre spectacle unfold, Tang Fang’s mind brimmed with unanswered questions. Harmless venom? He didn’t buy it for a second. Was this some sort of decoy tactic? A distraction? Or merely an attempt to stall Arroz?

After unleashing what amounted to an anticlimactic “ultimate move,” the serpent slithered sideways, its tail scooping up several wrecked shuttles. With a flick of its massive body, it hurled them skyward.

“Whistle… Whoomp!” Two ascending Vikings, having just completed their bombing runs, were struck by the flying debris. Out of control, they careened into the central turbine, exploding into fiery balls of wreckage.

Another shuttle hurtled directly toward the Medivac at the platform’s edge. The pilot yanked the controls hard, veering sharply to avoid collision.

“Screech…” Metal scraped against metal as the shuttle’s wing grazed the Medivac’s underside, sparking a shower of light like a meteoric rain. Inside the cabin, Housen and Churchill—still arguing fiercely—were thrown off balance, slamming into the walls in a tangle of limbs.
