Chapter 205: The Giant Serpent

Reality quickly answered Churchill's question. The "rubber-like" material began to fall like rain, the cracks glowing a deep crimson forming an unbroken web. Then, with a violent shudder, the "tape" unleashed a cascade of shattered fragments.

"ROAR!" A deafening, sky-splitting roar echoed as an enormous shadow streaked past overhead.

Upon closer inspection, it was a massive serpent-like creature, resembling a cobra, bursting out from the Element Zero (EZero) transmission tube. Its hood-like neck flared wide like gliding wings, and it traced a graceful arc through the air before slamming into the transparent elevator shaft with a thunderous boom.

Tang Fang and his companions felt the crystal wall tremble. Looking up, they saw the colossal cobra clinging to the crystal wall, its body slithering downward at alarming speed. At the elevator platform’s current descent rate, it wouldn’t take long for the beast to catch up.

"Snake! Snake!" Claire screamed, her face pale as a sheet. Cold sweat dripped down her temples, and Tang Fang noticed her weapon hand trembling uncontrollably.

"Miss, if you're trying to prove how feminine you are, did you really have to pick 'fear of snakes'? Is that supposed to be cute?" Tang Fang muttered under his breath.

Claire was in no state to retort, clutching his arm desperately. "Think of something, quick! It's coming down!"

Ever since the giant cobra appeared, Tang Fang had been weighing their options. There were only two viable choices: accelerate downward and race the monster or stop somewhere to either fight or use the terrain to escape.

He glanced upward at the rapidly approaching serpent, then looked down below. Raising his hand, he swiftly pressed a red button on the nearby control panel.

The elevator platform decelerated sharply, but thanks to the dynamic compensation system, the sensation of weightlessness wasn't too severe.

After a few breaths, the platform came to a halt on a circular loading dock built along the surrounding walls. The area was filled with various items: Epsilon shuttles, electronic equipment, metal containers, unidentified construction materials, and even psionic flames encased in crystalline boxes.

"Hurry, get out!" The vibrations against the crystal walls grew stronger as the snake-like creature lunged toward the platform like a raptor diving for prey, carrying a nauseating stench of decay.

Below them lay an unknown architectural structure. If the elevator platform couldn’t maintain enough speed, being cornered by such a behemoth would spell certain doom. Unwilling to risk it, Tang Fang decided to stop here instead. Not far off was a side door nearly thirty meters wide—once they passed through, the massive serpent’s bulk would make pursuit impossible.

The memory of facing the colossal One-Eyed Monster on Planet Namie was still fresh in his mind. Back then, without the aid of ancient facility's defenses, all their combat units would have been wiped out. Though this serpent lacked the visual terror of the One-Eyed Monster, its size dwarfed it several times over.

Could this epic-level leviathan be anything less than formidable? Tang Fang didn’t believe it for a second. Even though his strength had increased a hundredfold since Namie—with siege tanks, Widow Mines, Stalkers, Dragoons, and newly acquired Banelings—he knew better than to challenge a creature larger than an aircraft carrier.

Escape was the best option. The ruins were vast, with multiple routes to the control center. No need to waste time here; once he controlled the facility, settling scores with the serpent could wait.

"Hurry, run toward the door!"

No one hesitated, pushing their speed to the limit as they sprinted toward the side exit.

Tang Fang’s plan was sound—but only if the serpent gave them the chance.

“THUD.” A heavy impact shook the massive circular platform. Turning back, Tang Fang saw the serpent rear up with another earth-shaking roar. With a powerful lash of its tail, three silver moon shuttles were sent flying like scraps of trash, crashing into the wall and blocking the side door.

"SHIT!" Churchill cursed loudly.

Tang Fang’s heart sank. The serpent’s intelligence was staggering—it had deliberately used the shuttles to seal their escape route. Now what? What should they do?

Three kilometers ahead was a large cargo transport corridor, about a hundred meters wide... but no, that would be a death trap. If they couldn’t pass through quickly, the serpent would surely catch them. Trapped in such a confined space, their fate would be sealed inside its belly.

On the opposite side of the circular platform was another side door—a potential escape route. But... would the serpent let them go so easily?

Clearly, the answer was no. After smashing the shuttles, the serpent’s scales rippled as its massive body surged forward with incredible speed toward the six fugitives.

Before its body reached them, its fetid breath hit first, stirring the air into a chaotic gale that nearly knocked Tang Fang, Claire, Walton, and Arroz, clad in lightweight power armor, off balance.

The serpent’s head was fifty meters wide, moving faster than lightning. At their current speeds, there was no way to dodge. Claire and the others turned ashen. What now? Dodge? Impossible. Fight back? Their weapons were laughably inadequate against a creature larger than a warship.

"Run!" Tang Fang bellowed. Summoning two Sentry units, he triggered their force fields just behind the group.

Shouting this command, he scooped up Claire, used the stimpack, and leaped sideways with superhuman reflexes.

He didn’t expect the force fields to hold against such a monster. In-game, even Colossus and Thors could crush force fields—what hope did these fragile barriers have against a serpent rivaling a warship? All he wanted was a brief delay to buy them time.

Meanwhile, Arroz shoved Walton hard, sending him rolling to one side while Housen and Churchill, both also used their stimpack, bolted in opposite directions like madmen.

Behind them, the serpent’s maw yawned open, dark and abyssal like the gates of hell.

“BOOM!” The serpent slammed into the force fields, shattering them instantly like a truck plowing through glass windows.

Thankfully, the force fields did their job, slowing the serpent just enough for the group to scramble out of its collision path. As for the Sentries, they weren’t so lucky. Against the advancing leviathan, they were mere minnows before a whale, swallowed whole and lost forever within its gargantuan belly.
