Chapter 194: The Navigational Star Map
Claire shot him an annoyed glance, her right hand instinctively covering her chest. "Hmph. Go on, then."
"Oh, oh," Tang Fang replied absentmindedly, reluctantly tearing his gaze away. He leaned closer to her ear and whispered softly, "I know what’s missing."
"You know what’s missing?" Claire asked in surprise. "What is it?"
Tang Fang gave her a sly wink. "Follow me, and you'll find out." With that, he turned and walked out of the room.
No sooner had he left than Claire, who had already risen to her feet, froze momentarily. A faint blue glow flickered in her eyes as she stared at his retreating figure. Shaking off the dizziness in her mind, she quickly followed after him.
The two boarded an elevator heading toward the side hangar, then entered a shuttle. Tang Fang gave Claire a set of coordinates, and the shuttle departed from The Morning Star, heading toward Planet Krotan.
About an hour later, the shuttle entered Krotan's interior. Supported by Marion’s fleet bombardment, the rebel forces had completely seized Rheinstadt. The defense army was shattered, and all of Krotan was liberated. Small pockets of resistance from the First through Fourth Corps had retreated into remote mountainous areas, continuing their last desperate stand.
In some smaller cities, crimes like robbery, rape, theft, arson, and murder were on the rise. The rebel forces were far outnumbered compared to the former Krotan Defense Army, and with government institutions collapsing, maintaining order in larger cities was already a significant achievement.
On the Odin continent, five kilometers north of the Nablanca town, lush green fields stretched wide, and the clear waters shimmered blue. A gentle breeze rustled through willow branches and rippled across the lake, whispering like a lover's murmurs.
A soft glow spread over the water, and mist rose from the ripples, scattering a soothing shade of blue under Asram’s morning light. War and smoke hadn’t touched this place; playful fish darted beneath the surface, occasionally disturbing the calm with splashes of water.
This place was tranquil and harmonious, much like the dawn of Nablanca. Its beauty rivaled the picturesque scenes on highway billboards—like a Galactic Siren in a strapless sundress, exuding purity.
Following Tang Fang’s instructions, Claire landed the shuttle on an open patch beside the road. As the cabin door opened, Tang Fang leapt down, taking a deep breath of fresh air laden with the scent of grass. He strolled leisurely toward the lakeside.
"Hey, why are we here?" Claire hurried after him, glancing around curiously.
"This is Blue Lake, Grant’s hometown," Tang Fang replied cryptically.
"Oh, so this is the famous Blue Lake they always talk about—it’s beautiful," Claire marveled. After a brief pause, realization struck her. "But… but what does this have to do with the EZero Particle Spatial Effect Field Generator?"
Tang Fang glanced back at her, still playing coy. "Patience. You’ll understand soon enough."
He strode onto the muddy shore, summoning a Medivac dropship and four marines. Pointing toward the lake, the Medivac’s cargo bay opened, and the marines descended into the water via cables. Claire found a flat rock to sit on, watching silently as Tang Fang orchestrated the operation.
Half an hour later, the water churned violently as the marines emerged, towing something massive behind them. The Medivac’s thrusters roared to life, lifting the object slowly upward.
"Gurgle, gurgle…" Waves rippled outward. Finally, with a splash, a colossal object surfaced—a twenty-meter-long vessel. Water cascaded off its hull, sending up clouds of mist.
"This… this is…" Claire sprang to her feet. "An Epsilon ship? No, it’s an Epsilon shuttle!" She finally understood Tang Fang’s earlier reference to a crashed spaceship—it wasn’t just a story he’d fabricated. It was real. And yet… it was an actual Epsilon shuttle.
While Claire stood there stunned, the Medivac transported the dripping wet shuttle onto the shore. Without hesitation, Tang Fang climbed aboard despite the slippery surface, diving straight into the cockpit.
Even after being submerged for weeks, the psionic flame above the control panel still shimmered vibrantly, showing no signs of dimming.
Curiosity piqued, Claire approached, peering around eagerly. Though she had studied the EZero generator extensively, this was her first encounter with an Epsilon shuttle. "Where did you get this thing?"
"Shh, don’t interrupt me," Tang Fang said, extending his hands into the psionic flame. He sent a command to the central control system.
There was no hum of machinery or alert tones—just lights blinking on the console. Aside from engine damage, the rest of the shuttle appeared fully operational.
As streams of runes flowed into the psionic flame, a holographic star map materialized on the navigation display. Countless star systems intertwined, forming a breathtaking miniature galaxy.
"Emma."
"Commander, I’m here," came Emma’s metallic yet smooth voice in his earpiece.
"Can you copy the star map?"
"Scanning available data… please wait…" About a minute later, she responded. "Commander, replicating the Epsilon star map requires deconstructing the navigation framework and reconstructing the model. Due to the vast amount of data, it will take over two hours."
"Proceed."
"Yes, Commander."
As Emma’s voice faded, the galaxy projection above the navigation console flickered rapidly. Streams of runes surged from the psionic flame, flowing along Tang Fang’s arm and into the golden ε symbol on his forehead.
Seeing this again, Claire tensed momentarily but relaxed upon noticing Tang Fang’s composed expression.
Time passed swiftly, like a fleeting shadow. Two hours later, just as Claire grew restless and considered stepping outside for fresh air, Tang Fang stretched his stiff neck and withdrew his hands from the psionic flame.
The star map gradually dissipated, the console lights dimmed, and the cockpit returned to its original state.
Claire followed him out of the shuttle, watching as he repeated the process, commanding the Medivac to submerge the Epsilon shuttle back into the lake. "Now can you tell me the answer?"
"We’ll talk on the way back." With that infuriating reply, Tang Fang turned and headed toward the shuttle parked by the roadside, disappearing inside. Frustrated, Claire stamped her foot, muttered under her breath, and reluctantly followed him into the cockpit. Starting the engines, she guided the shuttle skyward, heading back toward the Starport orbiting high above.
