Chapter 193: A Missing Link

When Claire turned to look at Tang Fang, his hands had already pierced through the shimmering outer barrier of the psionic flame and delved into its core. From Grant’s account, she’d heard that this man might possess the ability to command Epsilon warriors—a claim she hadn’t fully believed until now. But as she watched the glowing filaments of light obediently adhere to his hand and a golden ε rune illuminate on his forehead, her doubts vanished. Her beautiful eyes glistened with awe, her lips parted slightly, and her breathing quickened.

He could truly manipulate Epsilon technology. The implications were clear.

Tang Fang, however, had no time to explain anything. His hands were now fully connected to the psionic flame—but to his surprise, it was empty. No new Protoss tech unlocked, no data on Epsilon devices, not even usage instructions. Inside, the normally vibrant data streams lay stagnant, suspended lifelessly in the flame’s inner space. No matter how he prodded, there was no response.

"What’s going on?" After a moment of thought, Tang Fang tried injecting a faint electromagnetic pulse into the flame.

What he considered an extremely weak pulse acted like gasoline poured onto fire. The once-docile psionic flame surged outward, growing larger and burning fiercely. Waves of azure energy rippled across its surface, forming ethereal blue coronae.

The dormant data streams coalesced around the pulse, forming a cyclone-like structure. This vortex spun rapidly before flowing along the strands of light into Tang Fang’s arm, traveling up his meridians and heading straight for the ε rune on his forehead.

"Hngh..." Tang Fang groaned in pain, as if a blade had been thrust into his mind. Beads of sweat rolled down his pale face.

"What’s wrong?" Claire gasped, alarmed by his expression. Though she didn’t understand what he was experiencing, it was obvious he was in immense pain.

As countless streams of blue light flowed through the tendrils of the psionic flame into Tang Fang’s wrist, Claire instinctively reached out to push him away. Breaking the connection should ease his suffering.

Without hesitation, she grabbed his hands, intending to pull them free. But the streams of light found another outlet, splitting into two paths—one continuing through Tang Fang and the other surging into Claire. The energy coursed up their left arms, across their foreheads, down their right arms, and back into the psionic flame.

Claire’s body trembled. Cold sweat dripped from her brow, soaking her golden hair, her slender neck, and the stiff collar of her uniform.

Tang Fang saw all of this but couldn’t react. Overwhelmed by the soul-tearing pain, he lacked the strength to speak or move.

The data streams continued assaulting his consciousness. The ε rune on his forehead vibrated violently before emitting a wave of energy. The wild currents calmed instantly, becoming gentle and harmless. The pain gradually subsided, and the fragmented data reassembled into runes, radiating a soft, moonlight-like glow in his mind.

Ripples spread, and a vision began to take shape.

A vast, dark expanse of space stretched endlessly, dotted with distant stars. Nebulae swirled like kaleidoscopic palettes, painting the void with vivid colors.

Huge starships loomed against the backdrop of infinity.

It was a massive fleet, numbering in the thousands. At its center, a colossal octopus-like vessel extended its tentacles, deploying devices resembling Claire’s “EZero Particle Spatial Effect Field Generators” to the fleet’s periphery.

As power surged into these generators, their diamond-shaped crystals emitted beams of cyan light, weaving an intricate and awe-inspiring network.

Then, the tentacles of the octopus ship flared with intense blue light. Streams of brilliance flashed briefly before the crystals erupted in a brilliance surpassing sunlight, rivaling the beauty of nebulae. Space-time collapsed, and the fleet transformed into streaks of silver light, vanishing into the void.

The vision ended, dissolving like ash. Tang Fang exhaled deeply, withdrawing his hands from the psionic flame, and turned to look at Claire.

The glow in her eyes faded as her awareness returned. She blinked, staring at him in shock.

"You saw it too?" Tang Fang helped her sit down, concern etched on his face. "How are you feeling? Any discomfort?"

Claire nodded, then shook her head. "I’m fine, just a bit mentally drained."

"Good," Tang Fang sighed in relief. "You shouldn’t have been so reckless. What if you got hurt?"

"And what would you have had me do? Just stand there and do nothing?" Claire retorted stubbornly. Clearly, given the chance, she’d make the same choice again.

Tang Fang chuckled helplessly. "Alright, let’s not dwell on that. Let’s talk about what we just saw. You witnessed firsthand the true capability of these ‘EZero Particle Spatial Effect Field Generators.’ In the hands of the Epsilons, their function wasn’t merely ‘invisibility’—it was more akin to ‘mass teleportation.’"

"Indeed," Claire agreed, steadying her breath. "But in our hands, they’re limited to invisibility, as though... as though something crucial is missing."

Perhaps still shaken, Claire struggled to calm her racing heart. Despite her efforts, her chest rose and fell noticeably.

Tang Fang couldn’t help but glance at her figure, feeling a sudden dryness in his throat.

"Hmm? What are you looking at?" Claire caught his gaze, following it downward. Her cheeks flushed red, and she gave him a playful glare. "Enjoying the view?"

"Haha... Ahaha... Hahaha," Tang Fang laughed awkwardly. "Couldn’t help myself, couldn’t help myself..."

Claire adjusted her uniform, giving him a sharp look. "Focus. We’re discussing serious matters here."

"Right, right. Serious matters." Though he feigned contrition, his eyes wandered absently over her again.
