Chapter 176: Is Boss Jealous?
By a small lake nearly a hundred meters wide, they set up camp and lit a fire. To Gu Lang’s surprise, he discovered fish swimming in the stream flowing out of the lake.
As usual, Wang Ping sat on a small folding stool by the campfire, emotionlessly watching Gu Lang shouting excitedly as he tried to spear fish with a homemade harpoon. Yuan Xiaoxiao followed behind him, occasionally pointing at the jumping fish and laughing when he missed. Each time a fish escaped, they would exchange glances and burst into laughter.
Little Four trotted along beside Yuan Xiaoxiao, wagging its tail and yipping joyfully.
"Two clowns!" Wang Ping thought to himself, silently cursing. Whether he was referring to Gu Lang and Yuan Xiaoxiao or Gu Lang and Little Four remained unclear.
To the side of the fire, Yuan Xiaoxiao's wet windbreaker hung from a branch, drying. Wang Ping glanced over and noticed that the two small holes resembling bullet marks had been slashed open into a large gash.
Clearly, Yuan Xiaoxiao had discovered the holes while changing clothes in the car—or perhaps she’d known about them all along but couldn’t address them until now. After changing, she had deliberately altered the bullet holes to make them look like scratches from rocks or branches.
"So, what is this woman's real purpose in deliberately following Gu Lang?" Wang Ping stared at the windbreaker, analyzing possible motives.
Not far away, the chat in the live stream began taking a strange turn.
"Hmm, I feel like Boss seems angry," someone cautiously typed in the comments.
This sparked a flurry of responses as viewers noticed Wang Ping's unusual demeanor.
"I feel it too."
"It seems like something has been off with Boss since the girl appeared."
"Sweat... Could Boss be jealous?"
"Emmm..."
"I think it's possible."
"It must be true. When we adopted a kitten, our dog got jealous."
"Ahem, excuse me, what kind of kitten?"
"My kitten is a British Shorthair."
"..."
"Do pets get jealous of humans too?"
"Maybe Boss doesn't see himself as a pet."
Lost in thought, Wang Ping didn’t notice the increasingly absurd direction of the chat. Otherwise, he would have been furious enough to throw the tablet.
At this moment, cheers from Yuan Xiaoxiao and Gu Lang's triumphant laughter echoed behind him.
Wang Ping turned to see Gu Lang waving at him, holding a spear with a thirty-centimeter-long blackhead fish shimmering in the sunlight.
"Boss, look! We’ll have fish for dinner tonight!"
"Woof woof!"
Little Four ran circles around Gu Lang and Yuan Xiaoxiao, barking and showing its teeth at the fish.
Yuan Xiaoxiao also turned back, waving at Wang Ping with a radiant smile.
"Hmph! Look at you uncultured fools!" Wang Ping muttered under his breath, ignoring them entirely. He turned back to his thoughts, wondering, "How do you even cook blackhead fish? Ah, forget it—what was I thinking about?"
"Oh no, Boss is definitely mad!"
"Remember at Lake Tso Ngön, Boss dug a hole for an hour just to catch fish. Now he won’t even glance at it."
"Gu Lang should hurry and comfort Boss."
"Gu Lang is busy having fun with the girl; he has no time for Boss!"
"You’re talking nonsense. Gu Lang isn’t like that!"
"Come on, tell us, what kind of person is Gu Lang?"
"Playboy!"
For some reason, during dinner, Wang Ping noticed Gu Lang glancing at the chat, then looking at him with an odd expression, as if wanting to say something but holding back.
Even when Yuan Xiaoxiao sat beside him with a bowl of fish soup trying to chat, Gu Lang instinctively kept some distance, glancing at Wang Ping’s reaction.
"Has Gu Lang finally realized something is off with this woman?" Wang Ping nodded inwardly, feeling somewhat reassured.
However, this relief didn’t last long. After dinner, Yuan Xiaoxiao eagerly volunteered to wash the dishes by the river. Gu Lang sneakily approached Wang Ping and said something that made the badger bristle.
"Boss, are you jealous of Miss Yuan?"
"Jealous?" The spicy gluten snack Wang Ping was holding dropped from his paw. He looked at Gu Lang, utterly bewildered.
"Hehe, don’t worry! Miss Yuan and I are just traveling together. Once we reach Ritu County, she’ll leave. It’ll be just us again! You’re my boss—you’re the most important to me. She’s just an outsider!"
Gu Lang had no idea how profoundly his words impacted Wang Ping’s soul.
Wang Ping felt goosebumps erupt from his soles to the top of his head, layer upon layer. All his fur stood on end as if electrified. His stomach churned, and the dinner he’d just eaten seemed ready to make a reappearance.
"For heaven’s sake, you don’t have any inappropriate thoughts about me, do you?"
Wang Ping awkwardly smoothed the fur on his arm.
"Alright, stop being jealous!" Completely oblivious to Wang Ping’s horrified expression, Gu Lang, seemingly resolute, reached out and patted Wang Ping’s head, saying, "I love you the most!"
"Awooo!"
An enraged roar erupted from Wang Ping by the campfire.
"Gu Lang! If I don’t beat the crap out of you tonight, I’ll write my name backwards!"
Yuan Xiaoxiao, washing dishes by the river, turned back in surprise and heard Gu Lang’s scream.
Dropping her things, she ran back only to see Gu Lang frantically running around the fire and tent, with Wang Ping chasing him, wielding a stool larger than himself. Every time Gu Lang slowed down or got caught, the stool smacked painfully against his legs, eliciting loud cries.
The funniest part was Little Four, who chased behind them, yipping and howling. But before long, it ended up being overtaken from behind by Gu Lang, who had looped around the tent.
"Oh dear..." Yuan Xiaoxiao stood there awkwardly, unsure whether to intervene. "What’s going on here?"
"It’s nothing!"
Gu Lang dashed past her, yelling, "We’re just playing around!"
"Awooo!" Wang Ping roared at her before smashing the stool onto Gu Lang’s leg again.
"Ah~! Boss, stop hitting me! I’m sorry!"
"Awooo!"
Just as Gu Lang rounded the tent, Little Four unexpectedly ran out from the other side.
Unable to keep up with the two, Little Four turned back after realizing they were coming. Gu Lang, unable to dodge in time, stumbled and fell to the side.
Seizing the opportunity, Wang Ping lunged forward, pouncing onto Gu Lang’s back.
Bang!
The sound of the stool hitting Gu Lang’s head echoed through the night.
"Eyah~!!!" Gu Lang’s cry pierced the sky.
"Yikes..." Yuan Xiaoxiao grimaced, shaking her head. She muttered under her breath as she returned to the riverbank, "Playing around? What a moron!"
