Chapter 160: Beneath the Weiwei Mountains

Whether out of lingering anger or an attempt to play it cool, Gu Lang remained silent. Instead, he crossed his arms and let out a haughty "Hmph."

"Oh ho? I’m giving you an easy way out, and you’re not taking it?" Wang Ping’s eyes narrowed as one claw on the dashboard tapped rhythmically, producing sharp knocks that echoed through the tense air.

A sense of déjà vu washed over Gu Lang behind his sunglasses, causing him to stiffen immediately.

By now, many viewers in the live chat had shifted their focus to the sleeping wolf pup nestled cozily in its makeshift hammock-swing. This was partly because Wang Ping had deliberately avoided the camera. However, just then, the audience heard Gu Lang’s hesitant voice crackle through the stream.

"Uh... Are you really apologizing like this?"

Wang Ping’s tiny forehead furrowed between his brows, his gaze growing increasingly dangerous.

"Damn it, I’ve been wiping your ass and feeding your damn dog—sorry, wolf—for two days straight. Whatever you say, I do. And still, you’re giving me crap?"

Ka-chink.

A faint but unmistakable sound rang out as Honey Badger’s claw pierced the plastic cover of the dashboard.

"You—you—you…!" Gu Lang hastily tore off his sunglasses, exposing his still-swollen eyes. He sat up to inspect the damaged dashboard with visible heartache. But upon seeing Wang Ping’s menacing expression, he froze for a moment before forcing a nervous laugh. "Oh ho ho ho! I was joking, see? I forgave you ages ago!"

Slap!

A chunk of honeycomb smacked squarely into Gu Lang’s face, dripping golden syrup onto his lap.

Gu Lang: ...

In the live chat, fans couldn’t see what was happening between Gu Lang and Wang Ping. They assumed it marked Honey Badger’s formal apology. Five minutes later, though, muffled cries of surrender filtered through the microphone: "Ah! I’m sorry, I’m so sorry! Don’t hit me—I’m injured!"

...

"Boss is still Boss."

"Something tells me this isn’t over yet."

"Totally normal. My wife got super cranky during our kid’s breastfeeding phase too."

"Haha, what are you even talking about, dude?"

"What breastfeeding phase? Isn’t Boss male?"

"How would you know? Have you seen proof?"

"Hmm... Now that you mention it, is Boss male or female?"

"No clue. Boss hides it too well."

"Maybe Gu Lang can sneak us a peek sometime."

"Haha, I suspect you guys are being dirty-minded—but I have no evidence."

"If Gu Lang had the guts to do that, he wouldn’t be ‘third wheel,’ he’d be the main event!"

After venting his frustrations, Wang Ping hopped back onto the passenger seat, seemingly satisfied. The Jeep roared to life, leaving Nyima County behind as they headed west toward Lake Zhaxi Co. Circling around the northern foothills, they drove steadily northward.

At this point, the mission objective Wang Ping had been obsessing over was only 200 kilometers away. However, standing in their path was the imposing range of peaks stretching nearly 100 kilometers across—the Weiwei Mountains and Lion Ridge.

Farther north of the Weiwei Mountains lay Chitong Mountain, capped with snow. Between these towering giants sprawled a vast expanse of desert, nearly 100 kilometers wide.

On the lower slopes of Chitong Mountain, hidden beneath a grove of trees, stood two tents. Outside, behind a rocky outcrop draped with camouflage canvas, Iru peered through binoculars at the barren wasteland beyond.

"Hey, hee, more people are approaching your side," Iru whispered into his earpiece, gripping the radio tightly.

Static... Crackling…

Park Yoo-hee’s exasperated voice came through. "Iru, please call me Deputy Leader—or at least Park. Not 'hee.'"

"Got it! Hey, hee, hurry up—they’re moving past!" Iru grinned mischievously, keeping the binoculars steady.

"Sht…"

Five minutes later, Yoo-hee’s breathless voice returned. "Phew, taken care of! Just a couple of rookies!"

"Roger that! Stay undercover!" Luke’s commanding voice cut through the comms. "Anna, status report?"

A long pause followed before Anna’s icy tone responded. "Same as usual."

"Hey, Luke!" Iru interjected suddenly. "Why keep those two idiots around? Wouldn’t it be easier to chase them all away?"

"Idiot!"

Another girl’s sharp voice burst through the line.

"Listen here, little Sama—if you call me an idiot again, Uncle Black might come spank you!" Iru shot back indignantly.

"Quiet!" Luke snapped. "This isn’t the time for chatter. Maintain silence unless necessary."

The channel fell eerily quiet. Behind the binoculars, the young man rolled his eyes dramatically.

Moments later, Anna’s voice broke through once more. "Those two—they’re bait."

Iru blinked, frowned, then finally nodded in realization.

Of course, the “bait” wasn’t meant for fishing.

Those two clumsy thieves thought hiding from the golden eagles overhead was enough. Their sloppy camouflage could be spotted from miles away. Any poachers entering the area would spot them first, unwittingly drawing attention away from Team Three.

From above, a piercing cry echoed through the sky. Iru quickly raised his binoculars. Through the lens, a golden eagle soared northward, talons clutching what looked like a hare.

"Good job, sweetheart," murmured Iru under his breath. But as he glanced eastward, his expression darkened.

"Crap! Another sandstorm’s coming! My delicate skin..."

---

Since being stung into a bloated mess by bees, Gu Lang had refused to appear on camera. Even when greeting viewers at the start or end of streams, he kept his mask and sunglasses firmly in place, terrified of mockery.

But honestly, he worried too much. People either get used to ugliness or grow tired of laughing. By the time Gu Lang turned into a swollen pufferfish, everyone had already had their share of laughs. Now, most attention centered on the adorable wolf pup.

Just before sunset, the Jeep wound its way along twisting highlands until it reached the southern foot of the Weiwei Mountains. Beyond lay the steep climb toward the snowline. Deciding against pushing further, Gu Lang parked the vehicle and set up camp for the night.

While Gu Lang wielded his entrenching tool to clear a patch of gravel for the tent, Wang Ping stayed inside the car, attempting to discipline the mischievous wolf pup.

Over the past three days, the pup’s filmy eyes had opened—a development that left Honey Badger unsure whether it truly had been born the night of the hailstorm. Typically, canine newborns didn’t open their eyes so quickly.

But none of that mattered. The fact that the pup survived at all defied logic; another miracle wouldn’t change much. What truly concerned Wang Ping was something else entirely.

Perched awkwardly on spindly forelegs in the passenger seat, the pup gazed innocently at the pile of poop before it with amber eyes.

Standing beside it, Wang Ping pointed accusingly, baring his teeth in mock ferocity.

"If you crap on the seat one more time, I swear I’ll... I’ll stew you alive!"

He wasn’t exactly sure how to train animals not to relieve themselves indoors. All he knew came from stories Gu Lang told about Dahei’s early days at Grandma’s house. Apparently, she dragged the poor dog next to its mess and lectured it for two hours. After that, Dahei never made the same mistake again.

Not just indoors—in Wang Ping’s memory, Dahei never once relieved itself anywhere near home.

Sighing wistfully, Wang Ping scratched his chin. "Reasoning isn’t my strong suit…" His gaze wandered involuntarily toward the world outside the car.
