Chapter 151: The Prometheus Project

"No substantial data related to the 'Prometheus' project has been retrieved," Emma reported.

"Fine. I'll figure it out when I get down there."

With that, Tang Fang turned and exited the data center. He boarded the elevator, descending to the 24th sublevel. As the doors slid open, his eyes widened in astonishment. Before him sprawled an underground hall spanning thousands of square meters, filled with an array of armored vehicles displayed like showroom exhibits.

Walking forward, he glanced at the monitors beside each display, reading descriptions of the vehicles:

"Wildfire" Tank: Equipped with twin-barreled 80mm cannons and flamethrowers for large-scale infantry suppression.
"Medusa": A lightweight off-road vehicle armed with a 35mm beam weapon, capable of reaching speeds up to 320 km/h.
"Phantom" Tank: Fitted with optical camouflage, allowing it to blend seamlessly into its surroundings for ambush attacks.
"Thunder King" Mega-Tank: Boasting dual-barreled 120mm cannons, retractable anti-infantry machine gun turrets, six missile launchers, removable tread armor, and a digging arm.

The entire hall resembled a museum of weaponry. Each vehicle was an experimental prototype developed by the Galaxy Military R&D Hub but abandoned due to various limitations, left here as relics.

After a cursory tour, Tang Fang stopped before a "Hell Roar" anti-ship attack tank. Crouching down, he pulled out a touchpad from beneath its chassis and entered a string of numeric codes.

"Hiss..." A burst of gas sprayed nearby as the outer armor of a massive MCV (Mobile Construction Vehicle) drone unfolded, revealing its internal honeycomb structure.

Following Emma’s guidance, Tang Fang stepped into one of the compartments and pressed a touch key. With a mechanical hum, the platform beneath him vibrated slightly and began descending.

Half a minute later, the lift touched down, and the automatic doors slid apart. Stepping out, Tang Fang froze as he took in the sight of the 25th sublevel. Like the floor above, the hall stretched across thousands of square meters—but this time, the ceiling soared much higher.

Tang Fang stood atop a zigzag staircase overlooking the vast chamber. In the distance, five enormous glass containers dominated the space, filled with a pale blue liquid. Countless conduits extended from the base of the tanks, connecting them to electronic interfaces, catalytic furnaces, and ultimately to a large laser apparatus in the center of the room.

"What on earth is the military researching down here?" He descended the stairs, his gaze sweeping over the environment. Even setting aside the incredibly sophisticated scientific equipment, the sheer volume of Element Zero within those tanks was staggering.

Element Zero—so much of it.

"What exactly is the Prometheus Project?" Puzzled, Tang Fang approached the central laser device. Shaped like a wheel, six laser emitters pointed inward at a damaged chip suspended midair. Purple streams of light pulsed along the intricate patterns etched onto the chip's surface.

Since the Apalus facility had shut down operations, the wheel-like apparatus lay dormant. The hall remained eerily silent, save for the rotating holographic models displayed on nearby monitors.

"Emma, can you decipher what ‘Prometheus’ means?" Tang Fang casually asked while plugging his powered armor's data cable into a supercomputer linked to the laser device.

"Decrypting data. Please wait."

Five minutes passed before Emma responded. "Commander, decryption complete."

"Go ahead."

"According to official records, the Prometheus Project involves decrypting a mysterious data chip. Similar to decoding Epsilon technology, the goal is to extract advanced technological resources embedded within the chip."

"Huh?" Tang Fang frowned at Emma's explanation. "So this broken chip contains data far more advanced than human technology?"

"Precisely. Based on my analysis of the Prometheus experiment logs, the military attempted to use methods similar to those used on Epsilon tech to extract resources from the chip. However, they’ve hit a dead end. It’s been 288 days since the project began, yet their progress remains virtually nonexistent."

"Virtually nonexistent?" Tang Fang exclaimed. "Are you saying this damaged chip’s Technology Level surpasses even that of the Epsilon civilization?"

"There’s no way to confirm without comparative data."

Tang Fang pondered for a moment. "Regardless, we can’t leave this in the military’s hands."

He moved a lift platform closer, activated it, and slowly ascended into the air. Suspended midair, the chip appeared unremarkable—a mere scrap of metal if not for the faint purple glow coursing through its veins. After confirming no immediate danger, Tang Fang reached out with his right hand and snatched the chip from the center of the wheel.

At first, the chip seemed inert. But the instant his palm made contact, the pulsating energy surrounding the Epsilon symbol on his forehead surged violently. Before he could react, a torrent of thunderous energy surged down his arm and into the chip.

A blinding flash of electricity erupted, striking the chip’s circuits. The once-faint purple glow intensified dramatically, bursting forth in dazzling brilliance. Streams of binary code exploded outward, weaving intricate 3D holograms in midair.

"What… what is this?" Tang Fang stared dumbfounded at the cascading streams of binary data, momentarily paralyzed.

"Emma, Emma... Can you see this? What do these binary strings mean?"

Silence greeted him. After waiting anxiously, Tang Fang called again, "Emma, what’s going on? Why aren’t you responding?"

Still no reply. Glancing uneasily at the flickering binary streams, he shifted his focus back to the system interface. What he saw next stunned him.

The Zerg and Protoss bases remained intact, but the Terran base had reverted to its gray, locked state—the same inactive condition it had been in before activation.

"How... how could this happen?!" Tang Fang felt as though a boulder crushed his chest. His earlier elation over unlocking the Factory evaporated instantly.

What was this cursed chip? Why had it disrupted the Starcraft system in his mind? And why were only the Terrans affected while the Zerg and Protoss remained untouched?

Gray. Locked. This setback was akin to being thrown back to square one. Without the support of the Terran base, how could he mask his strength using only the Zerg and Protoss factions? How could he stand against Krotan’s forces?

"Damn it! Where did this thing come from?" Furious, Tang Fang prepared to hurl the chip away when the flow of binary data abruptly ceased. The purple glow dimmed and faded.

Simultaneously, an unseen force yanked his attention back to the depths of his consciousness. The system interface went black, leaving only a blinking cursor.
