Chapter 100: The Gospel of Emma

So... this was the type that couldn’t simply be eliminated through physical means?

Leon spent half a second mulling over the young man’s words, only to find no useful information hidden within. He promptly ignored the other’s blustering remarks and cut straight to the chase.

“The harm I’ve inflicted on you should’ve killed you ten times over. So why are you still alive?”

The Gospel of Emma, Rule Nine: When facing an arrogant enemy who acts like they’ve already won, try asking them directly about their abilities. They might just reveal their weaknesses without realizing it.

“It’s simple,” the young man replied with a smug grin. “Because there are enough people willing to die in my place.”

Seeing Leon’s puzzled expression, the young man didn’t rush to attack. Instead, he studied Leon with keen interest while speaking slowly and deliberately.

“I am a natural-born dominator, entitled to everything by default. And those beneath me—you included—are naturally obligated to offer me everything: labor, flesh, faith, even life itself. All fall under the scope of what must be sacrificed for my sake… Do you understand now?”

Ah, so it was either some kind of damage transfer or disposable pawns taking hits for him.

After extracting the core piece of useful information from the young man’s bombastic speech, Leon couldn’t help but inwardly commend The Gospel of Emma for its effectiveness once again. Without missing a beat, he pressed further.

“So… if I want to kill you, does that mean I’d have to take out everyone under your control first?”

“You could say that,” the young man nodded, his smile widening as he leaned forward slightly. “But tell me—can you actually do it? As the first heir of House Lion, the undisputed next Duke of Lionheart, can you really wipe out ninety thousand people scattered across the kingdom? Or perhaps manage to kill me ninety thousand times in succession?”

“Don’t believe him.”

Just as Leon instinctively furrowed his brow, debating whether to retreat strategically, the black goat perched nearby suddenly came to life, shouting indignantly.

“Lying to others is one thing, but how dare you spout nonsense right in front of me? Sure, you’re doing better than me these days, but I can smell it—your power’s barely a third of what it used to be at your peak. Besides, there are Zodiac Bureau's branches in the capital. You think you can spread your influence across the entire kingdom? Ha! Try expanding your domain beyond this street, and I’ll eat this whole building right here, right now.”

“…”

Tch… What a hassle.

Watching Leon refocus his attention on him after momentarily processing the goat’s interruption, the young man frowned and shifted his gaze toward the goat-shaped figure clutched in Leon’s hand.

“Are you betraying me?” the young man asked coldly.

???

Caught off guard by the question, the black goat fell silent for two seconds before erupting into fury.

“What the hell do you mean, ‘betray’?! You little shit—don’t forget who I am! You’re nothing but a fragment created when—”

“What nonsense are you spouting?” the young man interrupted sharply, pounding his fist against his chest for emphasis. His voice dripped with disdain.

“A demon’s true essence lies in their heart—it’s the source of all our strength. I am the original consciousness. As for you…” He sneered. “You’re nothing more than a false will born from the remnants of my soul after my horn was severed. A mere shadow clinging to scraps.”

“You’re full of crap!” the goat roared back, visibly livid. Its eyes bulged as it bellowed, “Listen here, you arrogant brat! If you don’t shut your mouth, I’ll teach you a lesson you won’t forget—even if I have to chase you to the ends of the earth! Crap—”

…This employee of the Cleansing Bureau… certainly isn’t wasting any time. By the time the young man finished shaking his head in exasperation, Leon had already leapt out of the window with the goat in tow, disappearing into the distance at breakneck speed.

Meanwhile, dangling mid-air on the broomstick, the goat—its tirade abruptly cut short—was fuming.

“Leon! Why are you running? Go back and fight! Listen to me. That bastard was bluffing earlier. He doesn’t have ninety thousand lives. At most, he has…”

“Two or three thousand, right?” ” Leon shot back tersely, his face pale and glistening with sweat as he glanced down at the dense sea of soul flames flickering around the Lion estate. “And what makes you think that’s manageable?”

Leon’s voice was firm despite the exhaustion evident in his trembling hands. “I’ve already burned through most of my stamina saving people during the car incident, and killing him ten-odd times just now drained me like running a marathon. With the energy I have left, even condensing it into the smallest possible needles, I’d barely scrape thirty kills. Three thousand lives? Forget it. Running is the only option.”

“But you could use my power—”

“No buts.” Leon cut him off sharply, gesturing toward the residences surrounding the estate. “Even with your help, I could maybe turn fifty or sixty people against him temporarily. But there are over two thousand residents living near the Lion estate, plus servants, guards, and mercenaries loyal to him. Fifty rebels wouldn’t make a dent.”

“But—”

“No ‘but.’” Leon’s tone brooked no argument. “Not everyone working for House Lion deserves death. Many are just ordinary workers caught up in something far bigger than themselves. Even if I had the capability to kill him three thousand times, I wouldn’t sacrifice innocent lives to do it.”

With his reasoning laid out, Leon urged his broom onward, squeezing every last ounce of energy from his weary body as he sped toward the Cleansing Bureau headquarters.

The Gospel of Emma, Rule One: If you can’t win, run and seek help from the chief.

Unfortunately, while The Gospel of Emma remained as wise as ever, events rarely unfolded according to human plans.

“But you won’t be able to escape either.”

As the goat finally finished its protest, Leon—who had almost reached the edge of the estate—felt the air around him grow heavy. In an instant, his ability to hover vanished, and he plummeted toward the ground like a meteorite.

Heh. Did I ever say I could only dominate humans?

From the main building, Bobby Lion watched with satisfaction as Leon crashed into the earth, half his body buried in the dirt. Lowering his outstretched hand, he smirked.

Fool.

If we were to compare me to a feudal lord, then the Lion estate is my territory, the members of House Lion are my subjects, and the airspace above it belongs solely to me. Unless your power surpasses mine, you have no right to fly here. Had you not fled unexpectedly, your death would’ve been sealed the moment you cleared the fifth floor… Hmm?

To his astonishment, the figure struggling to climb out of the crater began sprinting toward the estate gates.

What?

His physical resilience isn’t much stronger than an average person’s. How could he survive a fall from seventeen or eighteen meters?
