Chapter 9: Dark Demon Accidentally Enters a Demon’s Lair
The professor of Magic Theory was Professor Cazer, a master alchemist with goblin ancestry!
In an age where magic technology gradually replaced ancient alchemy, Professor Cazer's status was somewhat awkward. Nevertheless, this didn’t hinder his proficiency in magic technology.
For the first class, Professor Cazer didn’t delve into overly complex knowledge. Instead, he introduced some basic information about magic cards.
Magic cards were divided into five main categories: spirit cards, magic spell cards, item cards, field spell cards, and arcana force cards.
In addition to these, there were also divine cards and mystical cards.
Divine cards possessed "divine power," while mystical cards were referred to as "the cards of the unknown."
During this lesson, Professor Cazer mainly talked about spirit cards.
A spirit card was a magic card that could summon a magical spirit!
Spirit cards had seven main stats:
1. True Name: Only by calling out the true name can a magical spirit be summoned.
2. Level: Represented by stars. Normal summoning can only summon spirits from 1-star to 4-star. Summoning spirits above 4-stars requires advanced Special Summoning techniques.
3. Race: There are 15 spirit races, including human-type, sub-human-type, dragon-type, angel-type, demon-type, undead-type, element-type, fairy-type, mech-type, insect-type, reptile-type, bird & beast-type, plant-type, fish-type, and godly-phantom-type.
4. Attribute: There are 20 attributes, such as normal, fire, water, electric, grass, ice, fighting, poison, ground, flying, psychic, bug, rock, ghost, dragon, dark, steel, fairy, light and shadow.
5. Magic Energy: This represents both Health Points and the energy needed to use ultimate abilities. Once magic energy reaches zero, the magical spirit will disappear and cannot be summoned again until it recharges.
6. Attack & Defense: These values represent the spirit's attack and defense capabilities.
7. Ultimate: The skills of the spirit, which consume magic energy when activated. White cards are skillless, while blue cards have one skill, purple cards have two, and orange cards have three.
To make the explanation clearer, Professor Cazer took out a spirit card for demonstration.
In front of the freshmen, he summoned a massive white python, exuding freezing cold air!
This reptile-type, ice attribute 4-star giant python gave the inexperienced freshmen a serious scare!
---
As Magic Theory ended, the freshmen eagerly fled the classroom, heading in groups toward the cafeteria.
For students of their age, the Magic Theory class was somewhat dull. However, Dark paid close attention during the lesson!
Before the class even ended, he saw a notification: [Greed +1]!
Then he realized that the so-called greed was an inner, overwhelming desire beyond the norm.
His desire to "resolve his current predicament" was regarded as [Greed].
Even though he had occasionally let his mind wander during class, it still triggered the response!
This completely overturned his theory about zoning out.
But despite his mental distractions, Dark did gain something from the class.
The sheer variety of races and attributes in magic cards, especially the magical spirit cards, exceeded his imagination!
Among them, the angel-type and godly-phantom-type were races with divine power.
“Godly-phantom-type is said to be exclusive to divine cards, and there are only a few in the world. But angel-type is just a rare race. If I could get one or two angel-type magical spirit cards...”
Using divine power to counteract the power of a demon god is common knowledge in every world.
Dark felt like he had found a clue.
However, Professor Cazer made it very clear: at Saint Marian Academy, both students and teachers could only use magic cards they created themselves.
In other words, if Dark wanted to purify himself using an angel-type spirit card, he would have to create it on his own.
This seemed incredibly difficult!
---
With a bit of worry, Dark ate a simple but fulfilling lunch in the cafeteria and returned to his room to take a short nap before the afternoon's Potion Class.
Since Dianna now had Rose as a friend, she didn't come to bother him, which saved him some hassle.
But after only half an hour of sleep, he suddenly felt a jolt and woke up.
A notification appeared quietly: [Sloth +1]!
“Damn it!”
[Wrath +1]
“Can’t I even take a nap?”
Dark glanced at the clock and smiled wryly, "It seems I’ll have to set an alarm for naps from now on. Can’t sleep past six in the morning, and naps can’t go over half an hour... What kind of 'model student' lifestyle is this?”
Dark summoned the system to check his deadly sin indicators.
[Pride: 93]
[Envy: 42]
[Wrath: 95]
[Sloth: 72]
[Greed: 74]
[Gluttony: 54]
[Lust: 75]
Most of them were trending upward, especially [Wrath]!
Although [Wrath] was the most volatile of the seven deadly sins, decreasing once anger subsided, it still increased by two points since the beginning.
This was not a good sign.
Dark got out of bed, packed his Potion Class textbook into his bag, and decided to head to the common room to study.
Initially, he wanted to go to the library to research DemiDevimon for his summoning class assignment, but with only a little over an hour left before the next class, he decided to wait until after Potion Class.
Who knows? The professor might assign more homework that would also require a trip to the library.
“Wait, if I spend too long researching and still don’t find what I’m looking for, will my [Greed] indicator explode from wanting to finish the assignment?”
“Hopefully not…”
With this concern, Dark prepared for his third class of the day.
Because he had done some light review beforehand, Dark performed well in class.
Professor Thompson, who taught Potion Class, wasn’t the strict type like Snape. In fact, he praised Dark and awarded him extra credits.
Since potions were essential in crafting magic cards, it was impossible to slack off!
However, Professor Thompson didn’t mention any potions that particularly interested Dark, so his [Greed] indicator remained untouched.
After three classes, both the professors and students started looking at Dark differently.
---
Dark kept his interactions with classmates to a minimum and headed straight to the library after class.
The library was overseen by the somewhat chubby Ms. Bella, but the daily librarian was an older female student.
This slim upperclassman, with her long black hair and slender legs, was exactly Dark’s type. Too flustered to look at her for long, he quickly signed in and scurried into the library.
"Such a cute freshman." Pandora chuckled softly as she watched the shy boy with delicate features.
---
Little did she know, Dark, hiding behind a bookshelf, was clutching his chest, gasping for air.
The notification [Lust +1] led him to conclude that this library was nothing short of a demon’s lair!
---
Shortly after, Emma Mortis also entered the library.

nice chapter
ReplyDeletePandora being the one in the cover photo is sort of confirmed in the next chapter when a more detailed description of her appearance is given. Specifically, It mentions a heart-shaped patch of scales under her left eye. It is in the photo, but hard to see if you don't look for it. That is specific enough that it can't be anyone else.
ReplyDeleteso this was the demon cave mentioned in the title lol
