His familiar, DemiDevimon, would circle outside the castle, fly through the kitchen’s ventilation shaft, and enter the cafeteria.
The halfling chefs adored the little DemiDevimon, who always brought small gifts.
Although the gifts were simple—pebbles from the riverbank, flowers from the roadside, lucky clovers from the sunset, or pretty feathers—they were the best gifts the little familiar could find.
The halflings would tuck the flowers into their hair, press the lucky clovers into cards, and store the pebbles and glass shards in jars.
Every morning, DemiDevimon would fly in on time.
Then, the halflings would hand it a basket of snacks and milk, already prepared.
DemiDevimon would grip the basket in its sturdy claws and fly back to the Noble House tower dormitory.
Dark had grown used to eating breakfast in the common room.
Eating while reading helped him avoid triggering [Gluttony] or [Greed].
This was his personal experience!
Once he finished, DemiDevimon would return the basket to the kitchen.
Dark would then stay in the common room and continue reading.
When the common room grew more crowded, he would head to his first class.
Initially, he was always the first to arrive in class, but he later discovered that if the class was with Knight House, someone always arrived earlier than him.
Fortunately, the game's main female protagonist had yet to mature, so she wasn't on his radar.
Compared to the more troublesome Dianna, Emma was like a harmless little kitten by the roadside.
Dianna, however, was becoming more attached to him.
It all started with Arithmetic homework.
Dianna had no talent for Arithmetic, and Rose wasn’t much better.
So, these two little best friends came up with the bright idea of seeking help from the "academic genius" Dark.
Reluctantly, Dark taught them a secret technique—the [Column Calculation Method]!
This method of solving problems by arranging numbers in a column made calculations much easier.
Professor Lily quickly caught on and spread the technique throughout Saint Marian.
To a knowledgeable fairy, the technique was unnecessary, but to beginners, it was a godsend.
Professor Lily even named it the [Dark Column Method] and awarded Dark fifty points!
This left Dark troubled—his [Pride] indicator had increased again!
Despite his efforts to control his emotions, the deadly sin indicator always managed to catch him off guard!
----
Dark had been trying to avoid socializing, aiming for a carefree, emotionless, zen-like life.
However, the more he kept to himself, the more he stood out among the mischievous freshmen.
No one cared about the "rumors" from before the entrance exam anymore. Everyone based their opinions on what they saw, forming a new definition of Dark Demon.
Diligent, wise, handsome—though a bit aloof—but wasn’t that exactly the image of someone in a high position?
In contrast, White Gawd, also the son of Kingdom’s Twin Swords, paled in comparison.
White hadn’t received elite pre-school education, only learning to read and recite basic arithmetic in a church.
Though he was smart, his youthful nature hadn’t yet matured, and he was often dragged around by Robert to play.
As the saying goes, one would become like those they associate with. Without Emma, the "know-it-all" girl, to supervise him, White was left with only the mischievous Robert by his side and naturally fell into his influence.
Plus, during class, White often zoned out, distracted by an unclear feeling, causing his grades to fall behind.
As the treatment of the original protagonist and antagonist began to reverse, a card game called [Love Divination] suddenly became popular among the first-year students!
---
However, this had nothing to do with Dark, whose social circle remained closed off.
He continued to maintain his daily rhythm. After the second class each morning, he would head to the cafeteria for a somewhat modest lunch and usually return to the common room by around 12:05.
Next, he would make himself a cup of coffee and continue reading.
If there was any homework he could complete right away, he would do that first.
Once he finished the homework, he would go back to reading.
DemiDevimon would often bring him some snacks, the kind that were light, ensuring they wouldn’t trigger his [Gluttony].
The books he read now were no longer textbooks, but ones borrowed from the library about [Magic Theory] and [Potion].
Occasionally, he would get too engrossed, and his [Greed] level would slowly rise.
After the third class in the afternoon, he headed to the library as usual.
The initial shock of seeing Pandora had worn off, and just making eye contact with her no longer triggered [Lust +1].
However, Pandora's presence still exuded an irresistible allure, often making him flee in panic.
Occasionally, he would hear soft laughter from behind him.
The meaning? Unclear.
---
Out of the seven values he had been monitoring:
[Sloth] was the easiest to control.
Dark didn’t expect himself to have such willpower. After a month of effort, his [Sloth] value had not only stopped increasing but had actually decreased!
The next easiest was [Envy].
The first-year textbooks were simply too easy. With his ever-growing magical energy and abilities, enhanced by the awakening of his demon good bloodline, he excelled not only in Arithmetic but also ranked at the top in Summoning, Magic Theory, and Potion classes.
The only person whose talent could rival his was White, who had inherited the Brave One’s bloodline.
But White didn’t take studies seriously.
Thus, Dark couldn’t find anyone to be jealous of.
Occasionally, when he saw the freshmen playing freely or talking about youthful topics, his emotions might flare up, but his [Envy] hadn’t increased much, nor had it decreased.
However, as time passed, these emotional flare-ups were becoming more frequent...
Another emotion that was piling up inside him was [Wrath]!
Yes, he was always able to suppress [Wrath], but his deep-seated anger at his demon god bloodline and the demon god support system remained firmly rooted in his heart, growing stronger by the day.
If it were to ever erupt…
Dark was deeply concerned about this.
[Greed] was still within controllable limits but also held the potential for a sudden outburst.
In comparison, [Lust], though not a major concern, had its own hidden dangers. This was because Dianna had been getting more clingy — she’d gone from sticking to him alone at the start of school to now clinging to him with her best friend in tow!
Dark Demon, reaping the consequences of his actions!
Every time Dianna came up to him to ask about homework, he wouldn’t be able to resist the urge to pinch her soft, rosy cheeks.
As a result, his [Lust] had increased significantly.
The worst part was that this value only went up and never down!
Dark once wondered if he could suppress it using the [Wise Man Time]!
But he didn’t dare try, fearing it would trigger an explosive reaction!
Surprisingly, the hardest one to control turned out to be [Pride]!
Dark originally thought this would be the easiest of the deadly sins to control. After all, he had memories of his past life. Even if his personality in this life influenced him for a time, he thought he could slowly chip away at his pride.
However, he never imagined that the memories from his past life would be the real curse!
Watching as his [Pride] level crossed 100 by the end of the month, changing from a ripe red to a darkening purple, he felt utterly hopeless.
---
On the afternoon of the fourth Friday after school started, the freshmen were allowed for the first time to leave the castle and enter Saint Marian’s only trading and leisure area—Traveller Street!
Dark quietly counted the credits he had earned, far exceeding those of most freshmen, knowing that his time was running out.

ReplyDeleteWas White originally supposed to leave his friend Robert? Or was MC supposed to provoke Emma so White&Robert can come to her rescue, become friends and be brought into the path of learning by her?
ReplyDeleteI wonder if MC can get cards that take away curses and try it out on his system. I think he said divine or whatever cards are hard to find. Actually, how do the freshmen get cards? They mentionned needing a deck to start dueling but how can one obtain cards?
Thanks for the chapter!
The system of sins is seriously stupid, It's not explained properly and like I find "wanting to squish someone's face" not exactly lustful, it's too imprecise. Like why? Why is it lustful? Is it lustful to find something cute? Obviously not, so why? The pride also imo has no sense in this story, why can't he be happy about knowing something, Author should describe MC's feelings more precisely, like there's for sure a difference between being prideful and being happy about knowing something. Next is sloth and gluttony, why can't he take a nap and can he take a nap if he's done with everything he has set to do? How much exactly can he eat? How am I supposed to understand gluttony? When it applies? What if he eats less or doesn't eat a breakfast, can he eat more when he's hungry later or he can only eat exact ammount of food? Why does he has to wake up at 6am when he has classes at 8am, why can't he just wake up at 7.30am, eat breakfast etc. and just get to classes perfectly on time? The easiest sins here to understand are only envy and wrath, but they are still poorly explained. And with system shown in this dumb story I can tell that it's impossible to avoid the awakening of demon god's blood. He would have to become some kind of mindless robot, that has no human feelings at all etc. It's just stupid.

Deletebut agreed it was a super Bias indicator specially Pride.
Pride = Hmph! Hmph! i am definitely better at math!
Humility = I am good at math but there is much to learn.
super bias just thinking i can do elementary math is prideful, hell it was shameful if you boast it at an Expert or Professor.
nice chapter
ReplyDeleteWise Man Time.... is that a kind of innuendo for the erm... 'closed door cultivation' that men do every now and then
ReplyDeletePride is the hardest to break, always has been, and it becomes even more apparent and annoying if you're a gamer.
