Chapter 25 Royalty (Part 3/3)
Jun
Lixuan got up and said, "I'm only here to deliver the tonic. I have
already agreed to go back to accompany Qiyang for breakfast. Please excuse
me."
Emperor
Yanxi said smilingly, "You better get going then. Spending more time
together when you are young is good."
"Yes."
Jun Lixuan chuckled slightly.
"We
will not bother the Emperor Father and Empress Mother. Emperor Father is right.
Spending more time as a couple is important when we are young. Since Emperor Father
came to accompany the Empress Mother, we as children shall not disturb."
Jun Liyuan also said.
"Nonsense..."
Empress smiled shyly.
"Alright,
you all go back. Xuan'er has found his companion. Yuan'er, you have to step up
your efforts." Emperor Yanxi waved his hand, sending them away.
"Yes,
we will make our move." Jun Liyuan smiled.
Jun
Lixuan greeted and retired.
Although
Jun Liyuan and Mo Qingge still have a long way to go, at least they have a good
start. With this, they were not afraid of the ending.
At the
end of March, the army of the Northern Expedition returned to the Capital.
Emperor Yanxi personally greeted the army at the city gate. Then, he hosted a
banquet in the palace to welcome the soldiers with gaudy and energetic
celebrations.
Except
for the Eldest Prince, who was still grounded, the other princes were all
present. Emperor Yanxi asked Jun Lixuan to bring Ling Qiyang, hoping to expose
him to the imperial family's traditions.
"All
of you have been fighting hard this time. You have lived up to what you were
entrusted with. I am extremely delighted with the speedy suppression of the
Northern Riots. A toast to all of your great successes" Emperor Yanxi
raised his cup.
The
generals immediately got up and returned the toast, "Thank you, Your
Majesty."
After
the toast, General Anguo said, "This success is all thanks to Sixth Prince
for solving the urgent need for food and fodder. Otherwise, this campaign would
not go so smoothly."
Emperor
Yanxi nodded and motioned everyone to sit down. He said, "Che'er really
contributed this time. From now on, the Sixth Prince will be promoted to His
Royal Highness Chong. After his marriage, he will be promoted to the Duke of
Chong."
The
sudden announcement took everyone in the hall aback. Instantly, Fourth Prince's
face darkened, and he clenched his teeth. Under the table, his fist tightened.
Similarly, a dark cloud loomed over Fifth Prince as he forced his best attempt
at a smile, squeezing out whatever remnants of sincerity he had left inside.
Alas, his cold eyes reflected otherwise.
On the
other hand, genuine happiness radiated from Jun Lixuan and Jun Liyuan. They had
long believed that Jun Liche should be promoted, but the Emperor never spoke of
it for a long time. Without any hints, they did not dare to ask. Finally, it
happened.
Jun
Lixuan piled Ling Qiyang's plate with food as he basked in euphoria. Seeing the overflowing elation, Ling Qiyang
smiled and said, "Now, all of the main family princes have been promoted,
all that's missing is the Prince Consorts."
Jun
Lixuan smiled and nodded. Speaking of Sixth Prince Consort, Jun Lixuan could
only smile helplessly. That would be an incredibly tumultuous journey.
Jun
Liyuan nudged Jun Liche who was on his side. Jun Liche immediately pulled
himself together and knelt at the front. He bowed and said, "Thank you,
Emperor Father ."
"Rise."
Emperor Yanxi said with a broad smile, "Che'er left the palace the moment
he matured. I know that his unpromoted status had led to many rumours. In fact,
this is the last wish of the deceased Noble Concubine Xian. She once told me
that if her son has no successes, he should not be promoted. She hoped that her
children will strive for progress, and she did not want her child to be complacent
because of the privileges that he was born with. Now, Che'er has accomplished a
feat of his own, he had met the dying wish of his Mother Concubine."
Speaking of the deceased concubine, Emperor Yanxi's eyes were filled with
sorrow.
Jun
Liche held in his sorrow and kept his silence. In fact, he never longed for
this rank. He had his own ability and influence and never coveted fame.
However, he never thought that this was his Mother Concubine's wish, whom he
had never met. No wonder even the Empress had no objection. In retrospect, he
was very fortunate. He had acted in a way worthy of the Emperor's appreciation,
the constant care of the Empress, and his Mother Concubine's wishes.
"Congratulations,
Your Highness." Everyone got up to toasted the new Royal Highness.
Everyone present knew that His Royal Highness Chong would be the first to be
crowned Duke in this generation of Princes if all things went smoothly.
Compared with Royal Highness, the rank of Duke was much more significant.
"Please
do not be so polite." Jun Liche smiled and received the congratulations of
all the surrounding generals. He turned around and met the gaze of his proud
brother and brother-in-law. Jun Lixuan and Ling Qiyang raised their glasses to
congratulate him. Jun Liyuan had already filled Jun Liche's cup with wine,
waiting for him to return to his seat. The four of them toasted and drank in
one hearty gulp.
Seeing
his main branch sons bonded with strong brotherhood and camaraderie, Emperor
Yanxi smiled with satisfaction. He whispered to his personal attendants to read
the decree to reward the generals. As the lavish gifts rolled out, the generals
and ministers were beaming with delight...
