Chapter 20 (Part 1/3)
Without
delay, Jun Lixuan and Jun Liyuan carried out Emperor Yanxi's orders. While the
two were busy, Ling Qiyang stayed by Mo Qingge's bedside. He was not sure when
his patient would awaken and could not leave until Jun Liyuan returned as a
precaution
As he
waited, Ling Qiyang flipped through pages after pages of his book. Suddenly, a
slight groan captured his attention. He reached out his hand and felt Mo
Qingge's forehead. There was still some heat, but it was already lower than
before.
Mo
Qingge's eyelids twitched, and then he opened his eyes. It took him a while
before his gaze focused and saw Ling Qiyang clearly in front of him. Just as he
about to speak, his dry throat was scorched by the air, and he coughed
uncomfortably.
Ling
Qiyang hurriedly poured a glass of water for him, held up his head, and fed it
to his mouth slowly, "you are badly injured, be careful."
Mo
Qingge was too parched to reply. He took Ling Qiyang's hand and drank the water
in huge mouthfuls. The first cup of water was gone within seconds, and Ling
Qiyang poured him another.
"I...I'm
still alive..." Mo Qingge looked around the bed canopy, and his eyes were
a little dazed.
"I
picked you back." Ling Qiyang tucked him back into the quilt. He chose to
hide the fact of the mass grave. "You were wrapped in a mat and left in
the suburbs of the Capital. I found you lying there as I passed by."
"Thank
you." Mo Qingge's voice was very soothing. However, it was unfluctuating,
seemingly dull and emotionless.
"It's
my duty as a doctor."
"This
is your home?" Mo Qingge asked. The furnishings in this room were not
something ordinary people could afford. It would not be an exaggeration to say
that these decorations were exclusive to nobles.
Ling
Qiyang shook his head, "This is the Third Prince's Mansion. I brought you
here after I saved you." Since Mo Qingge knows Jun Liyuan, he had nothing
to hide.
Hearing
this, Mo Qingge frowned slightly and stopped talking.
"You're
not worried about your hands?" Ling Qiyang asked. For Zither performers,
their fingers were crucial.
Mo
Qingge stared blankly at the top of the canopy. He lifted his bandaged hands
out of the quilt, looked wistfully at them and muttered, "If it weren't
for these hands, maybe I wouldn't be in this sate..." He followed it with
a deep sigh mixed with a kind of helplessness, somewhat saddened by fate.
Ling
Qiyang poured himself a cup of hot tea and said, "Even if it is difficult
to live, there is always someone that would make you cherish yourself for him.
Even if you haven't met that person, for the time being, you must cherish
yourself first."
Mo
Qingge looked at him, with complex blend emotions in his eyes -forbearance,
exhaustion, grievance... There were too much hardship and sorrow mixed
together. Throughout his life, he had been through all the experiences in life,
both the pleasant and unpleasant. These events looped endlessly, with no end in
sight. If he did not die from them, he had to grit his teeth and push on.
"Destiny
may look after you during your most desperate moments. Just when you were going
to give up, it might change. Of course, that is assuming you still have the
strength and courage to continue." Somehow, Ling Qiyang could feel the
retrospective reflection in his words. While he said them for Mo Qingge, and it
was also for himself. To think that his relationship with Jun Lixuan was challenging
initially, but it all ended well now.
Mo
Qingge bit on his lower lip and gazed down at the blanket. He smiled
melancholically, "It sounds like you have experienced it."
Ling
Qiyang nodded, "I used to be a running joke amongst all the women and
Omega in the Capital, but so what?"
Mo
Qingge looked at him in surprise and said, "Are you Ling Qiyang ?"
"Huh,
so you know too." Ling Qiyang took a sip of tea nonchalantly as if the
talk was about other people's affairs. He now could really watch the ridicule
as a third party. Especially since those who laughed at him are now wallowing
in jealousy.
"Sorry,
I didn't mean that." Mo Qingge said apologetically.
"It's
okay, it's all in the past." His fate was not entangled with Jun Lixuan.
All he needed now was Jun Lixuan's tender loving care. Nothing else made him
happier.
"When
can I leave?" Mo Qingge tried to move his fingers but found it immobilized.
“You
will need a long period of recuperation before you can do anything with your
hands. With this injury, it is very inconvenient. Even if the physical bruises
heal, your hand still needs to recover. It will lat least be a month before the
bones recover.” Ling Qiyang said as he tucked the bandaged hands in the quilt,
"If you are not obedient, I will tie you up."
Mo
Qingge chuckled. He never expected Ling Qiyang to threaten to tie him up.
"You
should smile more" Ling Qiyang said, "As a doctor, I want my patients
to get better soon. So, don't let down my efforts, alright?"
Mo
Qingge smiled and said nothing.
After a
temporary silence, Ling Qiyang asked, "How did you get hurt like this? It
has something to do with Tranquility Pavilion?"
Mo
Qingge shook his head but did not explain further.
Evidently,
it was not a pleasant memory that he wanted to recall. Since Mo Qingge did not
want to explain, Ling Qiyang left it be. He changed the subject and said,
"I found the fake skin on your shoulder when I was applying medicine.
Don't worry, no one else saw it except me and some attendants. If you want to
keep covering up, I have prepared a better one for you. But now you have are
still injured, and no other medicine should touch the wound as it affects the
healing. I will give it to you when your wound is almost healed."
In Ye
Empire, many men turned into Omega involuntarily. To hide their status, many
ingenious methods to conceal the lotus leaf pattern were made. Ling Qiyang
could understand their point of view, and so he had made an ointment for that
purpose and always brought it in his medicine box.
