Chapter 14 Lingering Love (Part 3/4)
As the
days passed, the relationship between the two improved. Everyone in the manor
was aware that the Prince Consort, always clad in red robes and lazily lying on
the couch, was favoured. The attendants who served them directly smiled as they
approached the couple, knowing better than to point out their saccharine-sweet
interactions. Although Jun Lixuan always wore a malicious cold expression, the
Prince Consort was different. He rewarded merits and dished out punishments
fairly. Gradually, the attendants were less afraid of the manor's coldness and
the quality of work they did improve by the days.
The
fifteenth day of the first lunar months marked the last day of the New Year's
Celebrations. On this day, citizens in the Capital would visit the temple to
burn incense and pray for blessings. After which, it was a trend to pay a visit
to the festival's bazaar to complete their celebrations.
The
royal family had the imperial temple for the royals make their prayers.
However, Jun Lixuan found this annual practice dry and uninteresting. To break
the boredom, he took Ling Qiyang to experience commoners' lives and experience
life as an ordinary couple for a day.
The Ye
Empire's Capital had many temples. Each of them equally popular and decorated
exuberantly for the celebrations. Amongst the many, Jun Lixuan chose to bring
Ling Qiyang to a temple in the western suburbs, the Temple of Peace. Firstly,
this temple was a short walk from the bazaar. Secondly, this temple was famous
amongst Omegas and seemed natural to bring Ling Qiyang here.
As the
identities made it inconvenient for them to be out in public, Jun Lixuan
wrapped Ling Qiyang tightly, mummified even. Topping off the dressing with a
hat on his head and a cloak on his back, Ling Qiyang's entire face was almost
covered. Jun Lixuan carried his and sat him at the front of the horse's back,
and he hugged him from the back. Despite the winter chills, Ling Qiyang did not
feel cold as Jun Lixuan's body shared a cosy warm through the linen.
At the
bottom of the mountain, Jun Lixuan helped Ling Qiyang to dismount the horse. He
passed the reins to his entourage and walked up the hill. Even amongst the
crowd, the handsome couple was particularly conspicuous.
As they
walked along the pavement, the unmarried girls and Omegasthrew shy and
infatuated glances at the handsome Seventh Prince. Ling Qiyang watched the
sight and smiled. If he was not Her Royal Highness Ling today, he would
probably part of these infatuated crowd. He would not have the fortune to walk
hand in hand with Jun Lixuan. Instead, he would be staring from a distance,
silently admiring his well-sculpted body and sharp features.
"What
are you thinking about?" Jun Lixuan held Ling Qiyang's hand in his,
walking up the stairs unhurriedly.
"Nothing,
is it the first time you are visiting the Temple of Peace?" Ling Qiyang
asked.
"Yeah.
I usually leave these prayers to Empress Mother. I rarely take part in this.
Moreover, many omegas and unmarried girls gather at the Temple of Peace. It's
not appropriate for me to come here." Jun Lixuan explained.
As
Temple of Peace was located in the mountains, a was a long steep journey.
However, the scenery along the way was exquisite and worth a visit.
"If
you want to come in the future, I will accompany you." Jun Lixuan added.
Ling
Qiyang chuckled, "When this mountain of sophora blooms, let's come and
take a look." Although Ling Qiyang was an Omega, there were not many
occasions that required him to visit a temple for prayer. In Ye Empire,
offering prayers and incense burning on non-fixed festivals were by women.
Unless there were no ladies capable of doing so, Omegas were never involved.
"Okay."
Jun Lixuan sketched the scene in his mind. Dots of pure white sophoras
sprinkled across the dark green mountains. How beautiful it would be to see Lin
Qiyang dressed in a splash of vibrant red, strolling along the pavement, as the
light fragrance of the flowers wafted along. At that thought, some expectations
sprouted in his heart.
When
they arrived at the temple, they tidied their sleeves and knelt side by side in
front of the Buddha. In silence, they made their wishes and prayers. Then, Ling
Qiyang asked for a sign.**
**A
form of fortune-telling in China. The believer will choose a stick with that
denoted particular luck and fate. The temple’s staff will help to interpret the
meaning.
Seeing
that quite a crowd had formed for their signs to be interpreted, Jun Lixuan
asked Ling Qiyang queue first. On the other hand, he went ahead to make
donations.
After
the donations and giving a gift to the monk, he saw Master Qingyi standing next
to the Buddha statue with a gentle smile. This was the Master who read Jun
Lixuan's fortune and instructed him to marry a male wife. In his previous life,
they have met several times. However, they did not talk much as he found the
Master off-putting. In this life, he has changed and was willing to believe in
Master Qingyi's words.
"Amitabha.
I did not expect to meet you here. Looks like we are rather fated." Master
Qingyi walked over. The warmth and tenderness in his gaze were as if he was at
peace and love amongst all living things.
"Master."
In the past, when Master Qingyi entered the palace to fortune-tell for the
Emperor and spoke about teachings with the Empress, Jun Lixuan had never bothered
to greet him. In retrospect, Jun Lixuan felt ashamed for his past actions.
"I
have heard of your marriage. It is God's will that Ling Qiyang has a
predestined relationship with you. He is a good partner for you and will help
you through your difficulties. I hope that you will cherish this fated
relationship and not let it down. I shan't speak any more. Your Highness, you
must understand yourself. Amitabha." Master Qingyi put his hands together
and bowed respectfully.
