Chapter 06 The Medicine Cat (Part 3/3)

During dinner, Ming Li returned from Count Wangyang's mansion with a black cat in his hand. The black cat was petite and had very enchanting green eyes. It had glossy and smooth fur and the fist-sized head were topped off with adorably small ears.  It laid motionlessly in Ming Li's arms, holding Ling Qiyang's jade pendant around its neck. Ming Li also held it nervously, as if he was afraid that he would accidentally drop it or let it run away. It wasn't until he entered the side hall that his tense jittery expression dissipated. He greeted the couple and said, "Concubine Yue** requested that I bring it back..."  

**Ling Qiyang’s Father is a concubine and has the surname Yue

Before he could finish his words, the black cat saw Ling Qiyang. Immediately, it leapt out of Ming Li's arms excitedly, jumping straight to Ling Qiyang. The latter smiled and hugged it gently. His slender fingers caressed its silky fur, teasing it dotingly, "Little thing, did you get fat?" The black cat rubbed its soft cheeks against Ling Qiyang's hand affectionately and rolling in his arms coquettishly.

Jun Lixuan gaze stared in puzzlement at the man then at the one cat. As he watched the joyous reunion, he chuckled, "You asked for this cat in your letter?"

"Yeah. Its name is Mo Yu’er, it's a medicine cat." Ling Qiyang said.

"Demon Cat?" Jun Lixuan was bewildered. The name Mo Yu’er sounded good, and was befitting for this cat with pitch-black fur, but how was it a demon? 

**Demon and medicine share the same pronunciation in Chinese

"It's not a demon cat, it's a medicine cat." Ling Qiyang shook his head helplessly after hearing Jun Lixuan's misinterpretation. Patiently, he explained, "It has been fed with medicine since childhood, and it sniffs out anything toxic."

"I've heard of Medicine People."

"They are similar in nature. However, most medicine people are made to harm others. Also, medicine people themselves are practically dead. Contrastingly, medicine cats are non-toxic and very intelligent." Ling Qiyang rubbed Mo Yu’er's stomach, drawing a comfortable "meow" from it.

"Is this cat the solution that you spoke of?" Looking at the cat who had found a comfortable position in Ling Qiyang's arms, Jun Lixuan could see its irritable intelligence.

"Yeah." Ling Qiyang got up and passed Mo Yu’er into Jun Lixuan's arms. Then, he took out the boxes containing Moonfall Incense and Cloud Bamboo Incense. The sudden unfamiliar embrace jolted Mo Yu'er from its peaceful snuggle. It squinted at Jun Lixuan with its neck aggressively pointed out, and big pupils narrowed. For an instant, Jun Lixuan felt that he could squeeze the life out of this little thing with one hand. Alas, it would break Ling Qiyang's heart, and so he had to stay still.

Ling Qiyang put some Cloud Bamboo Incense into the incense burner. His little finger dabbed a little Moonfall Incense and wiped it onto Luo Su's cuff. He then told Luo Su to leave the room and only return after a while. When he returned into the side hall, a peculiar sight entered his eyes. Jun Lixuan sat stiffly like a statue, holding an uncomfortably purring Mo Yu'er in his arms. Ling Qiyang smiled and laughed, "Mo Yu'er has robust vitality, you don't have to worry about hurting it."

Mo Yu'er stood on Jun Lixuan's lap, shook his head and looked at Ling Qiyang. When it seemed to be cautious, it did not pounce over. "Come on, hug it, I think it's asking for you." Jun Lixuan looked at Mo Yu'er, whose eyes were glued on Ling Qiyang. Evidently, the cat seemed to be acting weirdly.

Ling Qiyang shook his head, "It doesn't want me to hug it." 

While talking, Luo Su walked in. As soon as his feet stepped into the door of the side hall, Mo Yu'er whipped its head over, and its green eyes stared at Luo Su unmovingly. The sudden movements shocked Luo Su, and he couldn't help taking a step back, freezing in place. Mo Yu'er arched its waist and the hair all over its body exploded. After a shrill "meow", it jumped out and pounced on the incense burner. The burner fell to the ground with a metallic crash, and the ashes scattered all over the floor.
Jun Lixuan looked at Mo Yu'er, who sensed the danger and was pleasantly surprised. It seemed that the cat was brilliant and sensitive

"Mo Yu'er." Ling Qiyang called it, and Mo Yuer ran over obediently, jumping into Ling Qiyang's arms. Ling Qiyang rubbed its little head and said with a smile: "Very well done."

"Meow." Mo Yu'er snuggled against Ling Qiyang, purring excitedly.

Ling Qiyang consoled the frightened Luo Su, "Don't be afraid, Mo Yu'er won't hurt people. It's because I added some incense on your robes you just now. Quick, go change clothes."

"Yes." Luo Su pulled himself together and muttered. In fact, Mo Yu'er was not big-sized and lacked physical power. However, the look in its eyes was horrifying.

After Luo Su left, Ling Qiyang continued, "I also got the incense on my finger just now. Although I wiped it on Luo Su, there was still a residue. Mo Yu'er watched me but chose to not let me hold him because it also noticed something strange. As long as it is dangerous, no matter what how small, Mo Yu’er can detect it. It will then pounce on that item but will never hurt people. You can safely keep it at Empress Mother's palace.

"It really is a good cat." Even he felt Mo Yu'er's unique responses. An attentive woman like Empress Mother would find out even more quickly, successfully avoiding danger. "But he seems to be somewhat loyal. "

Ling Qiyang took out the jade pendant on his neck, "As long as this is around, it won't run. This pendant smells like me."

"Thank you for making a sacrifice for Empress Mother." Jun Lixuan walked up to Ling Qiyang and petted Mo Yu'er.

"As long as you can feel at ease." To him, sending Mo Yu'er to the Empress was fine. After all, the Empress was family, and he could visit it when he enters the palace. When a suitable kitten appeared in the future, he could let the Empress raise it, so that when the cat will recognise the Empress as its owner. Then, he could take Mo Yu'er back. Jun Lixuan smiled and held Ling Qiyang 's hand. He leaned in and kissed Ling Qiyang incredibly tightly.
