Chapter 425: Dark Demon’s Evolution of Greed Part 2
The bright blue light rendered the blanket virtually translucent, with some of the blue light not only piercing through but also casting mottled blue shadows on the ceiling, resembling the undulating surface of the sea
Situated beside Dark, Gatomon and Eevee-chan peered at the shimmering area of the blanket with interest, silently anticipating Honedge's transformation.
Yes, certain changes had been induced, that much was true.
Regardless of whether the energy of [Greed Ⅲ] was sufficient, the current circumstance demonstrated that the [Greed] series of deadly sin cards could indeed trigger Honedge's evolution.
Honedge's partly uncovered hilt twitched ever-so-slightly, its body engulfed by the light from its own transformation.
Its structure already didn't resemble much like a conventional Honedge, nothing had changed at this moment, except that it parted itself like fibres and formed a second half indistinguishable from the first.
Simultaneously, an oval-shaped glow gradually materialised within the body of light.
It was a shield that was formed during the second phase of Honedge’s evolution.
However, as the shield was still incomplete, it couldn't use its transformation type ultimate —[King's Shield] (王者盾牌)
Nevertheless, this shield had become a vital component of its structure.
To Dark's mild astonishment, Honedge’s evolution had gone quite smoothly and had not been hindered by the fact that it was only a grade Ⅲ deadly sin card.
The eye embedded within the crossguard had sprung open, revealing a faint outline of [Greed]'s symbol within as it sucked in the light emanated by [Greed].
When the evolutionary light abruptly receded, a magical spirit that consisted of two swords and an oval shield materialized under the blanket.
[Honedge]→[Doublade]!
After Honedge evolved into Doublade, it transformed into two swords that crossed in an X-shape, perfectly reflecting its name.
The overall look remained slender and intricate, with ornate patterns on the scabbard resembling spider lilies.
The eyes of the swords and ribbon had gone from violet to a more vivid fuschia colour, which was the only noticeable difference compared to the previous version.
The shield that was carried on its back served as a scabbard, securely fastening the two swords in place.
During combat, the two swords would fly out, with one of the swords' ribbons safeguarding the shield. This shield could only be fully functional after it evolved into [Aegislash].
When that time comes, not only could the shield be used for bracing attacks, [Aegislash] could also assume the form of an actual shield.
Dark meticulously examined the blade of Honedge, feeling quite delighted.
“Looks like the deadly sin card's ability to trigger an evolution doesn't solely depend on its energy level.”
"There must be a more significant difference between a level III deadly sin card and a level II deadly sin card beyond just the disparity in energy levels. This difference is the decisive factor that causes the effects of the two deadly sin cards to vary so greatly."
"No matter how many [deadly sin II] cards are used, they can't replace the effects of [deadly sin III]."
While deep in thought, Dark suddenly furrowed his brow, noticing that the two ribbons of Doublade had silently wrapped around both his and Gatomon's wrists; he could clearly feel his magic energy being drained away rapidly.
Originally, after being taught by Gatomon, Honedge had learned to pace itself, drawing in magic energy slowly and steadily. But now, blinded by greed, it had clearly lost control of that restraint.
Dark unravelled the hand-like ribbons, and, in turn, used them to firmly bind Doublade.
Doublade could only flop around like a fish, letting out muffled cries.
Taking this opportunity, Dark picked up its magic card and began to examine it.
As magic energy flowed into it, a flood of information surged back in return.

[Card name: Doublade]
[Type: spirit card]
[Level: ✪✪✪✪✪✪]
[Race: undead-type]
[Attribute: Steel-type/ghost-type]
[Magic energy:3000]
[Attack: 2200]
[Defense: 2200]
[Ultimate: Weapon Transformation, Fury Cutter, Sword Dance, Sacred Sword]
▲
“It became a 6-star magical spirit?”
"But why, aside from the increase in magic energy from 1500 to 3000 and defense from 1800 to 2200, had nothing else changed?"
“Yep, even its ultimates have not changed!”
“Could this be the surprise?”
Dark muttered to himself for a moment, then proceeded to thoroughly examine each of the ultimates.
▼
[Weapon Transformation: Doublade can transform into weapon mode, which will subsequently change the magic card type]
▲
No changes were made to the other ultimates either based on their descriptions, the effects of [Fury Cutter], [Swords Dance], and [Sacred Sword], remained unaffected.
Dark frowned and commanded: “Transform into weapon form.”
Upon receiving the command, Doublade immediately squeezed both of its eyes shut, swiftly retracted its long and slender ribbons, and transformed into dual swords and a shield.
Aside from the new fuschia color, the two swords looked physically identical to Honedge, but the shield clearly lacked practical value.
"Is this what splitting into two means?" Dark grasped one sword in each hand, thoroughly inspecting.
In no time, he realized both swords had all the same supplementary effects as [Honedge (Weapon Form)].
In other words, the only discernible change was the sword's evolution into a pair, with no difference in other aspects.
“This is much more acceptable.” Dark’s frown slowly eased.
The ultimates that Doublade was able to retain, such as [Weapon Transformation], [Fury Cutter], [Sword Dance], and [Sacred Sword], were all extremely powerful ultimates; being able to keep them was truly fortunate.
In addition, the doubling of magic energy and the slight increase in defense both indicated that after evolving from Honedge to Doublade, apart from being split into two, its essence had not changed.
Upon further contemplation, this was obviously good news.
"This means that, Gatomon and Leomon can each wield a Holy Sword, which is perfect!"
As he thought about it, Dark inadvertently tilted his head to look at the [Leomon] magic card on the desk. Upon noticing Dark’s gaze, Leomon gave him a big thumbs up: Good Job!
……
What Dark was unaware of was that, at that precise moment, DemiDevimon, its eyes barely visible through the blanket, was also daydreaming about splitting into two instead of being just one.
“If one turned into a black cat and the other a white cat, wouldn't that allow me to evolve into Bastemon?” As it continued fantasizing, DemiDevimon began to drool uncontrollably (¯﹃¯).
……
By the time the room became silent once more, it was already past one o'clock.
Dark rarely stayed up this late; his internal clock kept reminding him that it was past his usual bedtime, leaving him feeling quite tired.
He picked up a book, reading to pass the time.
Finally, at 1:40 AM, the cooldown limit on [Greed III] ended.
Trash Slime, who had been waiting for a long time, was then carried by Ditto as it leaped off its little bed.
"Plop!" Ditto jumped onto Dark’s bed excitedly, landing on Dark's face like a jelly.
Dark helplessly removed Ditto and Trash Slime off his face, keeping Trash Slime under the blanket before activating [Greed III] using the Normal Summoning Spell.
Trash Slime basked in the light of [Greed], letting out contented gurgling sounds; its form, under the influence of [Greed III], naturally began to change.
Dark had experimented with this before.
Slimes generally had three main traits: shapeshifting, fusion, and devouring. And his [Trash Slime] was clearly leaning to the devouring trait.
Therefore, among the seven deadly sins, [Gluttony] would have been the most compatible, followed by [Greed]. But given that [Gluttony] was still out of reach, it was great that [Greed] was also effective.
Holding Trash Slime out from under the blanket, Dark noticed that its form had entered the final stage of transformation, emitting a faint blue glow around its outline.
When the blue glow fully subsided, an even larger, jelly-like slime appeared in his palm.
Dark felt a slight shift in weight on his hand, which made him instinctively lower his hand.
At its very last moments of its evolution, Trash Slime suddenly expanded and became a massive slime of over 1.5 meters in diameter!
Just by looking at it, it was clear that this transformation under [Greed III] had resulted in a more qualitative development as compared to its evolution under [Greed II]!
Had Trash Slime finally evolved into a useful magical spirit, just as it had hoped?
Momentarily distracted, Dark suddenly found himself engulfed entirely head to toe in its clear jelly substance.
He had instinctively wanted to resist but then realized that despite being enveloped, he could still breathe easily, and his vision was relatively clear.
“It seems to have a rich circulation of oxygen within it.”
Therefore, Dark was not in a rush to break free and instead took out the magic card and infused magic energy into it.
Information was recieved immediately

"As expected, it not only jumped from 1-star directly to 4-star, but its magic energy is... 3000????" Dark blinked rapidly, surprised.
He was used to his magical spirits surpassing top-tier stats, but when had any of them increased by over a thousand points at once?
This was the same amount of magic energy that Doublade had, alright!
And it even had a solid 2000 points of defense!
