Chapter 55: The Immortal Moon

With the death of the lord, silvery moonlight poured through the gaps in the windows, dispelling the darkness and making the corridor feel less dead and eerie.

The terrain shifted once again, reverting to the corridor's original size.

The informant’s corpse lay nearby, a broken staff embedded in its body, still radiating faint cerulean light. After enduring such an intense battle, the staff had finally succumbed to the strain, splitting cleanly in half.

"What an exhilarating boss fight!"

Lin Qi gazed at the screen with ease, showing no signs that he had just endured a brutally punishing boss encounter.

He admitted that the battle had been slightly challenging—

No light source, three attacks per second, and a teammate who healed the boss… Any one of these elements could have made for a frustrating boss fight that left players cursing.

The reason he remained calm wasn’t due to his skill or emotional stability.

His brain had simply blocked out the painful memory entirely.

He suspected the NPC’s healing logic was flawed—it seemed to heal anyone with low health automatically. Lin Qi understood; bugs were common during game testing.

He didn’t dwell on it further but instead prepared to loot the informant’s corpse, just as he had done after defeating the Banshee.

Based on the rewards from the Banshee fight, boss drops were usually spellbooks—items that could significantly alter gameplay.

Soon, the informant’s corpse dissolved into black smoke. In the dimness earlier, he could only make out a rough outline, but now he could fully appreciate the boss’s second-phase appearance.

Without its armor, the informant no longer looked bloated. Despite being three meters tall, its limbs were thin like branches, appearing fragile enough to snap with the slightest breeze.

Clearly, this was a boss with a story behind it.

But Lin Qi wasn’t interested in its backstory. He watched as the tall, gaunt corpse gradually turned to black smoke and vanished.

A ruby lay on the ground.

He picked it up, opened his inventory, and hovered over the item. The details appeared:

[Mysterious Ruby]
- Description: It has a mysterious past, originating from a mysterious knight and possessing mysterious functions. Perhaps in the hands of a skilled craftsman, its power will reemerge in mysterious ways.
- As a special material, it can be taken out of the Void Domain.

That was quite mysterious... Lin Qi wasn’t sure how to evaluate the description.

"Since the boss is defeated, I’ll wrap things up with the NPCs."

Lin Qi was satisfied with this run.

He’d leveled up to the Second Ring, gained an area-of-effect spell, and acquired a rare material that could potentially be crafted into a weapon.

The main objective in the Void Domain had been completed, and defeating this boss across two maps had pushed overall exploration progress to 60%.

He didn’t plan to explore further. At this stage, he lacked essential traversal skills like double jumps, dashes, or grappling hooks. Collecting items would be pure suffering.

"And then there’s that sword..."

Lin Qi glanced at the crimson greatsword embedded in the ground. Unlike the boss, it hadn’t dissipated upon death but remained behind.

He tried to pick it up.

Success—and failure.

He could use it, but only temporarily. It couldn’t be stored in his inventory and would be discarded upon interaction.

"A shame that such a powerful attack module can only be used against thin air... Hmm?"

Lin Qi was disappointed at not having a proper use for the sword, but as he turned his gaze, he noticed the wooden door in the distance.

Suddenly, he had an idea.

...

The Safe Room

"So, there were two lords?"

Listening to Victor’s account, Edith muttered under her breath.

She couldn’t accept that a Tier Two island housed two nightmare lords.

"And our candle is broken," Victor added.

No light source.

An unsolvable problem.

Both Edith’s fire sword and Victor’s holy light could provide some illumination, but neither could weaken shadows or offer widespread lighting like a candle.

The only person with reconnaissance laureate, Ivy, had already collapsed on the couch from mana exhaustion. Even if woken, she likely wouldn’t have the strength to cast spells.

But soon, they no longer needed to worry about this issue.

Shh!

A sharp pain erupted in Mithra’s abdomen. She looked down to see a crimson greatsword piercing her chest.

Before she could react, the sword slashed horizontally, instantly reducing the First Ring challenger into particles of light that vanished within the safe room.

"A lord?!"

Victor’s pupils contracted. He drew his longsword, holy light slowly climbing its blade.

The wooden door shattered as the crimson greatsword descended with overwhelming force, its arc as graceful as a reaper’s scythe.

Instinctively, Victor raised his sword to block the fatal blow.

A tremendous force surged through the blade. His hand seared with pain, and the longsword flew out of his grasp.

Not good!

Victor reached for the airborne sword, but three phantom blades followed swiftly, claiming the paladin’s life.

The deaths of both individuals occurred in the blink of an eye.

Afterward, the attacker did not continue. Standing silently in place, its true form became clear—blonde hair, blue eyes.

It was Viya Fanyar.

"...It’s you?!"

Edith stared at the figure before her, her hand trembling as it gripped the flaming blade.

Her mind raced, connecting seemingly unrelated details into a coherent truth.

Why did the other possess far greater strength than a First Ring Ascender...

Why did she destroy the light source...

Why did the informant ignore her and immediately pursue this person...

It all made sense!

This individual she had met upon entering the island wasn’t a Void Domain explorer at all. Instead, she was the second lord besides the informant—a higher-tier lord capable of reasoning and disguising herself!

She had chosen the weakest First Ring challenger, planted a psychological suggestion, and fabricated an imaginary teammate to infiltrate their group.

Edith’s breathing grew rapid.

Something unimaginable must have happened on this island to spawn such a terrifying lord.

At this moment—

"Do you know the biggest difference between you and the informant?"

The lord holding the crimson greatsword suddenly spoke, her voice cold and indifferent, no longer masking her identity.

"What?" Edith froze.

"Killing you makes my heart ache."

Even in the Void Domain, killing others deducted Honor points.

"Heartache?"

Hearing the lord say such words in such a flat tone, Edith let out a bitter laugh.

She opened her mouth to retort but stopped as the crimson greatsword, trailing three overlapping arcs of light, swung past. Her figure dissolved into particles of light.

“While dialogue itself cannot be skipped, the speakers can be.”

These were the last words she heard before leaving the island.

After eliminating the moving targets, Viya turned her head to look at the sleeping figure on the couch.

She averted her gaze, reaching into her pocket. The Void Domain envelope had transformed completely—the outer shell was now crystal instead of paper.

"It’s over."

Yog’s voice echoed in her ears.

Viya crushed the envelope. The shards of crystal froze mid-air as the world was gradually enveloped in white light.

Her vision blurred.

...

...

...

When she opened her eyes again, she was back atop the endless clouds of the Void Domain.

Her spiritual perception rang faintly. Viya saw "herself" raise her head.

Deep blue flowers bloomed amidst the clouds, swaying without wind. The stars in the sky no longer shone brightly, as something more dazzling had stolen their brilliance—

A silver moon hung high above the dome, surrounded by countless pure white runes.

It was a perfect moon beyond description.

It was the goddess of the moon.

It was the immortal Selene.

It cast its gaze upon the tiny human in the Void Domain.

...

Reality

"This is a tough choice."

Lin Qi hesitated as he looked at the buffs.

In theory, he should choose blessings he hadn’t selected before to unlock imprints.

But this time was different.

[Corruptor’s Blessing (Purple)]
- Effect: Elemental resistance increased by 12%, physical resistance increased by 10%.

...

[Blessing of the Immortal Moon (Gold)]
- Effect: Soul capacity increased by 1 point, spell cooldown reduced by 10%.

...

[Blessing of Radiance and Plague (Blue)]
- Spell Effect: Damage increased by 3%.

...

At first glance, none seemed particularly impressive. Especially the Radiance blessing—despite being blue quality, its numbers were lower than even the previous white-quality buff.

Lin Qi initially thought it was another bug.

But then he noticed the text at the bottom—

[This blessing is permanently retained.]

I admit I spoke too soon earlier... Lin Qi guessed this was the difference between the natural Void Domain and artificial ones.

Artificial Void Domains allowed direct access to Lord’s Islands, skipping the storyline, so runs were quick and rewards temporary, focusing purely on roguelike fun.

In the natural Void Domain, Lord’s Islands were rare. Most of the time, players spent over an hour per run, often feeling fatigued after a single attempt. Therefore, blessings were permanent.

"Which one should I choose?"

If it were later in the game, Lin Qi would undoubtedly pick the Radiance blessing. That 3% damage boost applied to base damage, stacking with buffs for significant results.

But there was a golden option.

Moreover, Rothesia’s Radiance god was easy to find, with statues everywhere.

But there was a golden option.

The first blessing wasn’t bad either—it increased durability, helping with cross-tier challenges or building a turtle-shell playstyle.

But there was a golden option.

"There’s no way around it."

Regular blessings could be obtained repeatedly in artificial Void Domains, but golden ones might not appear again for a long time.

Though Lin Qi didn’t understand what "soul capacity" meant, as a primary stat for a gold blessing, it couldn’t be bad.
