Chapter 52: Another Lord?!

What did it mean for a boss to enter its second phase after shedding its armor?

Lin Qi was all too familiar with this.

First, the boss’s movements became incredibly fluid—its fast and slow attacks carried more "soul," its arsenal of techniques expanded, and it might even pull out some flashy spells.

Second, its defense wouldn’t drop. The damage output remained consistent—if one hit dealt X damage before, it still dealt X damage now. Hoping for an easier fight was out of the question.

"Still, it’s not a big deal."

Lin Qi glanced at the health bar. Leveling up restored some health, so after depleting the first bar, he still had about 70% left.

The advantage was his!

...

Mad dog. That was Viya’s sole evaluation of the informant.

Even without the Half-Knowledge Eye, the crimson greatsword’s trajectory was painfully obvious. Its movements were wide and unrestrained, showing no intent to conceal itself—it simply crushed obstacles with raw, brute force.

Raise sword, slam down, raise sword… It repeated motions akin to hoeing the ground. Viya could only retreat step by step.

This staircase likely possessed some unique property that prevented it from collapsing during their earlier battle. However, this property didn’t directly grant structural integrity but instead fused the stairs into a single cohesive unit.

Now, the accumulated "scars" finally surfaced.

And so, the staircase collapsed.

Not just one section breaking off—it was the entire structure falling apart, leaving no foothold in sight.

At the last moment before her footing crumbled beneath her, Viya leapt into the air, driving her staff into the wall to anchor herself. She peered downward, watching the lord plummet into the endless abyss.

"Roar!"

The informant performed an action beyond Viya’s imagination. The bloody gash in its abdomen suddenly exploded outward, propelling the several-meter-tall mini-giant toward her like a cannonball.

Using her staff as leverage, Viya dodged, but the wall behind her wasn’t so lucky—it shattered violently, sending both of them hurtling backward.

...

"I thought people in your church spent all day praying in chapels. Never expected you’d have time to explore the Void Domain."

Mithra continued walking, guarding the light source.

At first, she was somewhat worried, but after seeing Paladin Victor effortlessly dispatch the shadows encroaching on the light, she relaxed completely.

"My lady, we do have lives outside our duties."

Victor’s tone was polite yet evasive.

His position wasn’t overly forward. This was because shadows could attack not only from the front but also from behind, the right side—anywhere without light.

"Hold on, does the floor feel like it’s trembling?"

Mithra was the first to notice something amiss. She set aside idle chatter, her eyes swiftly scanning their surroundings.

Her grip on the candle tightened involuntarily. As the island’s most crucial item, losing this sole light source would leave them vulnerable to being torn apart by lurking shadows within seconds.

Though death in the Void Domain wasn’t permanent, the pain was very real. No one wanted to experience the sensation of their flesh being gnawed through bit by bit.

"Don’t move."

Victor’s expression grew grim. He pulled a small iron plate from his bag and threw it to the left, relying on his sense of direction.

A second later, the sound of the plate hitting the ground echoed.

"The corridor has widened."

He repeated the process, tossing a coin to the right. The result was the same—a full second passed before the clink of the coin hitting the floor reached them.

"The entire corridor has changed… Watch your step; don’t fall."

Victor’s nerves were taut. Such sudden changes often heralded imminent danger.

"Mm."

Mithra’s expression turned serious.

Crash!

The wall to their right shattered abruptly, startling Victor into taking two quick steps back. Only after sensing the presence of the light source did he feel slightly reassured.

From the impenetrable darkness emerged two glowing weapons: a cerulean halberd and a scarlet greatsword clashing repeatedly. The sharp metallic vibrations rang out continuously.

"What’s going on?"

Mithra anxiously asked the most knowledgeable person present.

Victor didn’t respond immediately. He stared intently at the crimson greatsword, then slowly uttered two words:

"That greatsword… belongs to the Informant…"

The Informant?

That nightmare-level Void Domain lord?

Mithra instinctively looked down at her pocket, where a few hidden letters lay quietly.

Her mind raced at lightning speed, but it felt like a cat entangled in yarn—the more she tried to untangle her thoughts, the more chaotic they became until everything turned into a mess.

How had this lord, who should only appear at the end, shown up prematurely?

Victor’s face darkened.

He knew exactly what that scarlet greatsword symbolized.

It meant the Informant had entered its blood-burning state, a phase where its power skyrocketed. At this stage, challengers’ goals shifted entirely—from attempting to defeat the lord to escaping.

Surviving while evading shadows and protecting the light source became the hardest part of the dungeon.

However, once the blood-burning phase ended, the Informant would weaken, creating the perfect opportunity to finish it off.

But one thing still puzzled Victor.

"How is there another nightmare lord?"

He stared at the cerulean halberd clashing with the scarlet greatsword. In mere seconds, the two weapons collided dozens of times. Even though the environment in the darkness was unclear, the ear-splitting metallic clashes and the splintering wooden floor told him everything he needed to know.

Only another nightmare lord could force a frenzied nightmare lord into such a state!

Victor recalled the pre-exploration Void Domain dossier. There was no mention of a second lord on this island.

"Was the report incomplete? Did someone sell us false information?"

Victor’s expression was grave. Even someone as mild-mannered as him couldn’t help but feel anger rising.

"Two lords?"

Victor’s voice was soft, but Mithra still heard it.

Her eyes widened in disbelief.

Was this still a Tier Two island?

Having the Informant—an overpowered nightmare lord—already made this island excruciatingly difficult.

And now you’re telling me there’s another nightmare lord?!

"Should we retreat? Go back to the safe room we found earlier?"

She suggested.

"No. That small room can block shadows, but it’s useless against lords. Returning there would be suicide."

Victor rejected her idea outright. He didn’t turn around; since the incident began, the paladin’s gaze hadn’t left the two intersecting lights.

With some skill in swordsmanship, he saw far more than Mithra did.

The cerulean blade was clearly dominating.

Victor was absolutely certain.

Even though the scarlet greatsword appeared overwhelmingly aggressive, repeatedly launching attacks and seemingly controlling the pace, closer observation revealed something else. Every desperate swing was deftly countered by the cerulean blade, redirecting its immense force outward.

Whoosh!

Suddenly, a blurred shadow flew past, slamming onto the floor beside them. Mithra looked down, and her breath caught in her throat.

It was a corpse.

More accurately, the corpse of a shadow.

Its elongated, twisted limbs had been severed entirely, and black ink-like blood flowed steadily. Its torso was caved in to an exaggerated degree.

Staring at the shadow’s gruesome fate, Mithra’s heart pounded uncontrollably.

During their earlier actions, she had observed Victor fighting shadows and understood how powerful these creatures were—how resilient their bodies were.

Yet even monsters of this caliber met such a brutal end when facing those two nightmare lords.

"We’re done for."

Mithra cursed the Void Domain’s matchmaking system a hundred times over in her mind.

Last time, it was a Banshee—one of the hardest challenges in Level 1. This time, not only was there a nightmare lord, but there were two!

Would the next match throw a young Esoteric Sect bishop at them?!

The Void Domain—celebrated by countless Ascenders as a miracle, the origin of transcendent power, the dome of truth—it had countless names pointing to this wondrous place.

But at this moment, she could only feel it setting her up for failure.
