Chapter 191: Come Out!

Completely oblivious to Wang Ping’s bared teeth, Gu Lang was simply thrilled at this rare opportunity to show off. It was hard to say whether he had been carefully conserving the remaining battery life of his tablet just for this moment.

Once the streamer followed Wang Ping, walking while dialing Chen Bai on his phone for a voice call, his true intentions were instantly revealed.

"Lao Chen! Hurry up and boost me on the homepage—I’m going with Boss to meet the wolf that repaid its debt! This is a once-in-a-lifetime chance!"

Without waiting for a response, he hung up, turned the recently powered-off tablet back on, and secured it to his chest using a Velcro strap.

As they walked, footsteps sounded behind them. Turning around, both man and honey badger saw Yuan Xiaoxiao following, Little Four cradled in her arms.

"Since I’ve got nothing better to do, I thought I’d tag along!" Yuan Xiaoxiao said with a smile.

Unlike Gu Lang’s straightforward mindset, she had already suspected that the wolf Wang Ping rode earlier wasn’t just any ordinary wild wolf after seeing him return mounted on it that morning. Curiosity was universal, and she was no exception.

In Shanghai, Chen Bai, who had already left work and returned home, hastily called the technical department and rushed to his study to turn on his computer. Only after refreshing the webpage and seeing the new push notification did he suddenly realize something felt off.

"Damn it, Who is he calling 'Lao Chen'?"

Meanwhile, on the plateau, the last remnants of sunset still lingered on the horizon, promising another sunny day ahead. In contrast, in the inland regions, people were out for evening strolls after dinner.

In Shengjiawu, Dahei trailed leisurely behind Grandma as they returned to their lit courtyard. Just as the dog was about to crawl into its kennel, Grandma called out.

"Dahei, come watch some TV with me!"

"Woof!"

Dahei responded, rushing ahead to the living room door. By the time Grandma opened it and walked in, the dog was already sitting by the couch, holding the remote in its mouth.

Older folks enjoyed watching TV, while many working professionals and younger crowds preferred to scroll through their phones or tablets while lounging in front of the screen. Among these viewers were Douyu users who received notifications from the platform.

"Douyu streamer explores firsthand—watch up close as Tibetan wolves repay their debts!"

Some fans who had previously followed Gu Lang were surprised. Wasn’t he only supposed to broadcast in the mornings?

Quick-fingered users opened the notification, launching Douyu directly into Gu Lang’s live stream. On the screen, against the bright backdrop of twilight, appeared Wang Ping—a black denim windbreaker-clad figure with white fur atop his head—striding across a field of tall grass.

Gu Lang's voice occasionally chimed in, though it was unclear whether he was talking to someone or muttering to himself.

"How should I act? Cold and aloof or warm and friendly?"

"Oh no, I forgot the first aid kit—it’s injured, right...?"

"No, I need to go back and get it..."

"You’ve got to be kidding me!" Yuan Xiaoxiao couldn't take it anymore and stopped Gu Lang as he abruptly turned around. "That wolf has been injured for over two days now. Its wound is already healing—how are you planning to treat it?"

"Back off, you wouldn’t understand!"

Gu Lang waved her aside, recalling how he once bandaged a leopard in Africa.

"Whoa, why are you running back?" Wang Ping, who had been leading the way, finally noticed Gu Lang jogging back, confusion etched across his honey badger face.

Yuan Xiaoxiao shrugged at him. "He says he’s going to treat the wolf’s injury and went back for the first aid kit..."

"Treat the wolf king?" Wang Ping scratched his head, imagining Gu Lang nervously reaching toward the wolf king’s hind leg while surrounded by the pack.

Shaking his head to rid himself of the ensuing mosaic-filled mental image, Wang Ping silently hoped the wolf king’s temper wasn’t as fiery as Rosette’s.

After a brief delay, Gu Lang returned breathless, clutching a first aid kit. Following Wang Ping for about 500 meters, they soon spotted several animal-like shapes lying motionless on an open patch near a weathered rock—but no sign of any wolves nearby.

"What the heck? After all this preparation, they’re not showing up?"

Gu Lang jogged forward, examining the corpses and scanning the surroundings.

Wang Ping and Yuan Xiaoxiao arrived shortly after—one cradling Little Four and looking slightly disappointed, the other hurrying to inspect the prey.

A marmot frozen in death, two gray-haired hares, a half-grown gazelle, and even an unidentified bird lay there. It was impressive that the wolf pack managed to hunt so much in less than a day.

Though the rabbits matched the sketches Wang Ping drew for the wolf king, everything else came as a surprise—especially the gazelle, yet another protected species.

Feeling the already-cool body of the gazelle and poking curiously at the stiff neck of the bird, Wang Ping stood there slightly bewildered. How did the wolves manage this? Hunting birds wasn’t exclusive to felines?

"Hey! Where are you? Come out!"

While inspecting the scene, Gu Lang suddenly shouted, waving the first aid kit above his head. "Look, I’ve come to treat your wound! I mean no harm!"

"Whoa? Gu Lang, have you lost it? If they don’t appear, just let it be—why call them out?" Wang Ping looked up, his small ears twitching as he turned toward the south.

"Howl!! Howl howl howl!"

Little Four in Yuan Xiaoxiao’s arms suddenly raised its neck and howled. Gu Lang and Yuan Xiaoxiao turned to see a lone wolf step out from behind a rock 100 meters away to the south.

"Wow! They’re here!"

"They really responded to Gu Lang’s call."

"Incredible, finally meeting them."

"This is truly a memorable moment."

"Cheer for the streamer like crazy!"

The chat exploded with excitement from viewers who had been eagerly anticipating this moment.

Gu Lang’s face lit up with joy as he took a step forward, ready to wave the wolf over. But then another wolf emerged behind it, followed by a third, fourth, fifth… Within two minutes, a dense cluster of wolves filled the opposite side.

"..."

Gu Lang’s smile froze on his face as he instinctively swallowed hard.

Behind him, Yuan Xiaoxiao quietly retreated, covering Little Four’s mouth to prevent it from making noise.

In the live chat, viewers stared wide-eyed at the screen as tension mounted.

"Something feels off about this atmosphere..."

"Damn, I respect no one but Gu Lang’s big mouth..."

"So many wolves—are they here because of the prey?"

"This is terrifying—it’s not a reunion of gratitude; it’s more like takeaway delivery!"

At that moment, the center of the screen showed the wolf pack stirring before parting to create an opening. A noticeably larger wolf, with a whitish coat and limping on one hind leg, slowly emerged.
