Chapter 196: Planet End
Fifteen minutes after the docking arms retracted, The Morning Star ignited its rear thrusters. With a slow and steady motion, the warship pulled away from Hatto Spaceport.
Inside an auxiliary chamber above the bridge, Tang Fang turned his gaze one last time to the dock below. Marion and the others stood there, waving goodbye. He whispered under his breath, “Take care. I hope we meet again someday.”
Half a minute later, a brilliant cerulean energy field rippled outward from the generator at the center of the room. In an instant, it enveloped the entire ship in a shimmering cocoon of raw power.
High-energy EZero particles collided violently, sending ripples through space-time. A dark vortex, crackling with faint arcs of lightning, began forming at the ship’s bow. Five minutes passed like a heartbeat before a flash of light streaked across the void—The Morning Star vanished into the wormhole with a final, distorted echo.
It wasn’t until the vortex collapsed and the glow faded that those on the dock snapped out of their stunned silence.
“This guy always manages to surprise us,” someone muttered quietly.
---
The universe was cloaked in a deep, gloomy hush. Meijar, a star twice the size of the Sun, cast dim, wavering light through turbulent clouds. From below, the young star should have been radiant, but instead it appeared as nothing more than a hazy red disc behind the stormy veil.
Far beneath the clouds, in the desolate expanse of the lower atmosphere, a vast sapphire barrier stretched for thousands of kilometers, shielding a fragile world from the chaos beyond.
Outside, the winds howled with fury, swirling at speeds exceeding two thousand kilometers per hour. Massive hurricanes churned the air like a tempestuous inferno—a realm of destruction and death. Anything caught in those maelstroms would be shattered instantly, reduced to dust.
This was a wasteland of high pressure, endless storms, and frigid emptiness. No life, no water—only hydrogen, helium, sulfur compounds, methane, and acetylene filled the sky.
Yet within the sapphire barrier, calm reigned. Faint blue luminescence flickered like ripples on a still pond, stars twinkling gently in the darkness—like a night sky frozen in time.
Above this oasis of serenity floated a colossal structure, a ring over five hundred kilometers in diameter, resembling a celestial helm. Its silver-gray surface bore intricate patterns of glowing energy channels, flowing like ancient runes carved by forgotten gods. It was both elegant and foreboding, a relic of a lost civilization.
What should have been a peaceful haven in the eye of the storm became, in this moment, a gateway to the unknown. At the center of the helm-like structure, reality twisted. Thunderous arcs of energy surged outward, and a black rift expanded rapidly into a gaping wormhole.
As the energy channels pulsed with eerie blue light, the wormhole widened. Then, with a blinding streak of brilliance, The Morning Star emerged from the portal, trailing a ghostly distortion across the void.

The harsh red emergency lights dimmed, and Tang Fang let out a long, shaky breath. His heart had nearly leapt from his chest. The star map copied from the Epsilon shuttle had been off. The relay beacon was nowhere near where it was supposed to be. Without the subspace quantum flow markers and his own precise navigation, they’d have been swallowed whole by the collapsing space-time.
He slumped back into his seat, gasping for air. Every muscle in his body trembled, and cold sweat soaked through his shirt. The tension had drained him completely, leaving him weak and exhausted.
“Huff… huff…” His heavy breathing echoed in the chamber. After a long pause, he forced himself upright, flexing his shaking arms.
Just one mistake, and they’d all be dead.
He glanced at the psionic flame interface. “F****,” he muttered, frustration boiling over. What kind of system was this? Was the star map system on the shuttle really just as outdated and unreliable as the GPS in his old car back on Earth?
In the real world, a wrong turn might mean a few traffic tickets. Here, it meant death—for everyone aboard.
Just then, the rear door slid open with a soft hiss. Claire entered, followed by Arroz, whose expression was grim.
“Hey, what’s wrong? Why are you sweating so much?” Claire asked, concern etched across her face as she saw the pallor of his skin.
Tang Fang opened his mouth to explain the near-disaster in the subspace tunnel—but thought better of it. No need to scare them now that they were safe.
“I’m fine. Just tired. That’s all.”
“Okay, good,” Claire said, relieved.
Then Tang Fang looked at Arroz. “Why the long face?”
“You really didn’t notice anything?” Arroz raised an eyebrow, ignoring the question.
“Notice what?” Tang Fang hadn’t paid attention to anything else except guiding the ship.
Claire stepped forward and tapped the control panel. A projection of the Meijar system appeared on the screen. When Tang Fang saw their current position and the planet marked End, his eyes widened in shock.
“E-End? We’re on Planet End?”
Claire sighed. “Yeah. And we’re right in the center of the Great Black Spot.”
Tang Fang stared at the map, looking helplessly innocent. “I swear, this has nothing to do with me.”
His previous body had lived on this star system for eighteen years. He knew more about the Meijar system than anyone here.
There were ten planets in total, including Bruno and Rector, two habitable worlds. One resource-rich, three barren, and four gas giants. This one, labeled End, was the eighth planet from the star—an ice giant.
Its thick atmosphere, rich in complex chemicals, reflected the light of Meijar in a strange, dark brown hue. Combined with the ever-present "Black Spots" swirling on its surface, it looked like a gaping maw leading to hell itself. Hence the name: End—a place of finality.
From Tang Yan’s memories, the Great Black Spot was a massive cyclone near the equator of the northern hemisphere. No one knew when it formed, but since humans first set foot in the Meijar system, it had remained unchanged in size, shape, and location for nearly two centuries.
At first glance, it was awe-inspiring. But over time, it grew oppressive, even repulsive. Like an aging beauty who never changed—always the same pose, always the same look—its presence was exhausting.
And now, The Morning Star was stuck right in the middle of it.
Around them, supersonic winds howled. Above, thunderheads roiled with electric fury. Below, an abyss of chaos yawned endlessly. Truly, this was a place of endings.
With a press of a button, the external armor retracted. Through the viewport, the protective shield shimmered with scattered points of light. Behind them, the enormous helm-shaped Epsilon relic hung in the air, its glowing carvings casting an ethereal glow. It looked like a masterpiece—majestic, mysterious, and beautiful in its own terrifying way.
Even though they were prepared, the sight outside left them speechless for a long while.
“This… this is huge,” Claire stammered. Though Epsilon ruins weren’t unheard of, something this massive was rare indeed.
Tang Fang and Arroz, however, remained composed. They’d seen far worse on Namie—factories built into the crust of a planet, powered by the core itself.
“Come on,” Tang Fang said finally, standing up. “Let’s go to the bridge.” He figured Grant and Nehemiah had already seen the view. Whatever came next, they needed to plan together.
They exited the chamber and took the lift to the bridge. As they entered, a young woman with a cherubic face, short hair, and a smooth voice greeted them.
“Captain is here.”
All the crew rose to attention. Nehemiah and Grant turned toward them.
“Relax, relax,” Tang Fang chuckled, nodding at the officer. He walked over to Grant and peered at the central screen showing the drone’s footage.
“Well?” he asked. “Any discoveries yet?”
