Chapter 159: The Planeswalker's War Part 3

Fifty golden flames ignited in an instant. Blinding columns of light, like molten steel, swept across the spectral armor encasing Kabirus’s skeletal frame. Ripples of energy spread outward, scattering sparks and fragments of light that shattered or veered off course. But the spectral armor was crumbling too, collapsing under the intense heat that bent and refracted the air. Kabirus’s face twisted behind the rising vapor as its protective barrier disintegrated in a single catastrophic moment.

"Madara!" The undead lord’s roar echoed through the night sky as the radiant beams flashed three times beneath the dark heavens.

"By Marsha’s grace, that fool—" Roscoe, hiding in the alleyway, clenched his teeth as the golden streaks reflected in his soulfire. He cursed under his breath, then slumped against the wall, sliding to the ground.

He shook his head. Once, he had thought himself a prodigy.

---

White raised his head, his golden eyes narrowing slightly. He discarded the corpse in his hand like a broken toy, feeling his once-stable Spiritual Barrier: Isolation waver. Yet there shouldn’t have been anyone stronger than him on this battlefield. Doubt flickered in Black Knight’s mind, his gaze darkening with suspicion.

But at that moment, everyone on the battlefield felt a tremor—a ripple of unease that coursed through their very souls. Even the emotionless skeleton soldiers’ soulfires wavered for an instant. All eyes—living or hollow sockets filled with soulfire—turned toward a single direction.

The fighting stopped.

Cinnabar, blood-soaked and battered, rose from the ground. She wiped the dripping blood from her chin with the back of her fist, amber eyes still burning with stubborn defiance. But even she felt it—the unmistakable tremor, like the sound of something shattering deep within her heart.

A sharp crack echoed. Something broke.

She looked up and saw the barrier above her fracturing into shards. Jagged pieces of black shadow fell, dissolving into the air with a deafening clatter. On the other side, a low grunt escaped the undead knight.

White pressed a hand to his chest in shock. Someone had shattered his barrier—impossible. As one of the Four Knights of Revelation, he believed no one on this battlefield possessed Absolute Strength greater than his own. Yet a halo of light now appeared in his golden eyes.

It was a cluster of glowing points emerging from the darkness, skimming low over the battlefield.

Everyone froze. Their gazes followed the shifting lights as they streaked past overhead. When the beams passed, every head instinctively turned to watch as the glowing points grew blindingly bright in midair.

A holy presence began to gather.

Then came the voice: “Dragoons, advance!”

The first beam descended like a spear piercing the night. The nearest mercenary turned just in time to see the light pierce through the skulls, chests, and pelvises of three skeletal javelin throwers. Time seemed to freeze as the young mercenary’s mouth hung slightly open—but with a crash, the skeletons collapsed into piles of bone.

Then came the second beam, and the third.

The glowing points shimmered in rapid succession, growing denser until it seemed a rain of light poured down. In the span of a single breath, the ranks of Bone Spine Legion’s skeletal javelin throwers were obliterated. After two volleys, only a scattered handful remained outside the defensive line.

The mercenaries stared in awe before erupting into cheers:
“By Marsha’s grace!”
“Destroy these foul creatures!”

Clenxia watched, dumbfounded. One hand shielded Funiya, the little girl trembling behind him. Relief washed over him, though he couldn’t help but wipe a bead of cold sweat from his brow. He glanced at his equally pale second-in-command. Both had recognized the voice instantly—it belonged to the young nobleman.

They hadn’t expected him to possess such power. Clenxia finally understood what needed to be done. With decisive resolve, the silver-haired man drew his sword and swung it forward. “Brothers, charge! Don’t waste this opportunity!”

A roar rippled through the battlefield as the tide of battle shifted decisively.

Meanwhile, White snapped out of his initial shock. His gaze darted beyond the chaos, but all he saw were two radiant angels parting the mist, flanking him from both sides. Their wings beat furiously, propelling them forward at incredible speed. Gleaming holy swords slashed toward him, but Black Knight stood unmoving. Raising his scythe, he swung it left and right, sending the angels spiraling away with twin bursts of force. Feathers drifted down in their wake.

Yet White found no relief. The air thrummed with gathering magical energy.

He looked up and saw edges of light forming in the sky. These lines coalesced into a massive cube dozens of meters wide and long, solidifying into a colossal boulder that plummeted toward him. The earth shook violently as the stone crashed down, kicking up clouds of dust and debris.

Material transmutation, rule manifestation—there was a high-tier Rule Wizard here.

Black Knight climbed to his feet, covered in dirt and ash, his gaze fixed on the fog-shrouded battlefield. But when the mist cleared, the scene had transformed. Shouts and cries filled the air as the mercenaries surged forward like a flood, overwhelming Grudin’s private forces. Without the support of the undead, the noble army crumbled under the relentless pressure of the Dragoon System.

The undead general gripped his black scythe tightly, watching as cowardly humans fled past him. A torrent of collapse swept across the battlefield, threatening to engulf his position. It was as if the entire structure of the war was crumbling, the air itself reverberating with a deep, anguished groan.

Still, he had one last chance. White’s gaze pierced through the crowd, landing on Brandon standing at the far end of the battlefield.

He needed to eliminate those swirling orbs of light dominating the field, but he lacked the time. White reasoned that whoever controlled those strange weapons held the key to the battlefield. If he killed the young nobleman, everything would fall into place, and the scales of war would tip back in his favor.

With a cold snort, he leveled his scythe.

But Brandon had already spotted the Black Knight among the Four Knights of Revelation. This old adversary was unchanged from their previous encounters—still clad in what Brandon considered an ostentatious outfit. However, this version of Black Knight had yet to acquire the blood of the dread dragon, making him far easier to handle. Brandon smiled faintly. "Capture the leader first"—a strategy fitting for someone confident in their speed and skill, much like White himself.

What White didn’t realize was that his intentions had already been anticipated. He saw Chael standing behind the young noble, wand in hand, flanked by Tiger Finch, the wild elf sisters, and others from Rubis’s mercenary band. The two radiant angels returned to hover protectively beside Brandon, acting as personal guards. Using celestial beings as escorts? Such a thing was unheard of. While this group was formidable, White believed he still had a chance.

Then White moved. His figure blurred, flashing across the battlefield three times, each leap covering nearly a hundred meters. But Brandon remained calm. With a thought, the Dragoon System rearranged itself mid-air, immediately redirecting its aim toward a specific area—a concentrated volley.

Golden beams rained down, striking the ground like a sudden forest of gold erupting from the streets. Precision wasn’t necessary; sheer numbers compensated for any lack of accuracy. Even an Upper-tier Gold rank opponent like Black Knight couldn’t afford to expose himself to ten or more Silver-tier attacks per second. Forced to act, he raised his scythe, unleashing a black arc of energy that dispersed the rain of light and obliterated several Wind Spirit Spiders in an instant.

Though the Holy Sword card granted Silver-rank attack power while active, it did nothing to enhance durability. Against the Upper-tier Gold Rank’s assaults, the Wind Spirit Spiders’ defenses were as fragile as paper.

Yet when White attempted to press his advantage, he found the glowing orbs scattering, retreating to encircle him from afar before resuming their barrage. Each time he tried to move, they regrouped, suppressing him with overwhelming firepower. Beyond the initial strike, Black Knight found himself unable to gain any foothold, his speed inevitably slowing.

White looked up, realizing for the first time that every move he made was being read and countered.

On the other side, the Dragoon System’s flexible tactics left Tiger Finch and the others awestruck. Chael, meanwhile, adopted an enigmatic demeanor, explaining earnestly: “...In any game, three metrics are always present: skill, equipment, and attributes. What you’re witnessing is the superior manifestation of Lord Brandon’s skill and gear. Of course, Lord Brandon once told me, Chael, when you consider these three factors, one will always aid you. If you ever grow into a great mage, remember to thank me for imparting this secret.”

He nodded solemnly, though his tone betrayed his insincerity. “Now that I’ve become a great mage, I must say, I’m deeply grateful to Lord Brandon for sharing this wisdom.”

The younger wild elf sister couldn’t help but snicker.

“Chael,” Brandon growled, grinding his teeth. “You’d better join the fight soon—”

“Of course, my lord, I’m preparing a spell,” Chael replied promptly. “Though, my lord, I notice many noble private troops... Wait, isn’t that insignia related to Earl Jandel?”

“That’s the Jandel family crest.”

“Another earl? So, my lord, you’re offending nobles again?” The young wizard exclaimed in mock horror. “By Marsha’s grace, I’d wager you were a tragic hero in your past life.”

“It doesn’t matter. As you said, we’ve been hanged before,” Brandon responded tersely, issuing commands to the Dragoon System without missing a beat. “And if it happens again, so be it—they’ll just drag us out and hang us once more.”

“That’s true.” Chael raised an eyebrow.
