Chapter 130: A One-Man Gunfight

Someone’s coming.

The sound of footsteps echoed from the stairwell. Leon, who had already demolished more than half of the dungeon, immediately stopped his destruction and pulled the policewoman back a few steps. His hand hovered over the black goat’s horn.

“Chief?”

Seeing the scarred man emerge from the stairwell, even though she had braced herself for this moment, an unexpected pang of sorrow welled up in the policewoman’s chest.

Her chief might have been “cowardly,” always avoiding trouble whenever possible, but he was fundamentally a good person. They had worked together at the Secret Investigation Bureau for years, partnered on nearly a hundred missions, and even faced life-and-death crises side by side. To her, he felt like family—an uncle or elder relative.

And yet… her trusted chief was actually a rebel spy embedded within the bureau. Everything they’d shared—their camaraderie, their battles—had all been a lie. Even worse, some of the dangers she’d faced might have been orchestrated by him.

“Isha.”

After glancing at the policewoman’s conflicted expression, perhaps recalling their years of partnership, the scarred man’s hardened features softened momentarily before he sighed.

“We’ve reached this point, so there’s no need for further words. I don’t dislike you. Unfortunately, as the daughter of the Minister of Defense, you’re not one of us. The harder people like you work, the deeper the kingdom sinks into ruin…”

He paused, then added with grim resolve, “So, I apologize. Today, it’s not just him—you’ll die here too.”

Hearing this, the policewoman clenched her teeth, anger flashing in her eyes. She didn’t respond to his statement but instead demanded sharply, “Last year, Aunt Martha was ambushed by rebels while picking up her daughter from school. Her body was dumped at the Shipbridge Street landfill. Was that…?”

“It wasn’t me who killed her, but I did pass along the information about her whereabouts.”

The scarred man exhaled heavily. “Martha was a good person. But she coordinated with the royal honor guard and knew the travel routes of the princess and prime minister. I had no choice but to report her location. And it’s not just her—of the forty-plus agents who died in the bureau over the past few years, roughly a third were targeted because I leaked their intel. Some of them were your friends or acquaintances.”

He paused again, his voice tinged with regret. “I’m sorry. Not all of them deserved such fates. But sometimes… we must go against our own hearts to do what’s necessary…”

BANG.

“Hmm… That’s enough talk for now.”

The scarred man touched the bloody hole in his forehead, unfazed by the wound. He glanced at the policewoman, still frozen in shock after firing her shot, then turned toward Leon, who stood protectively in front of her.

“Isha managed to shoot me, so why haven’t you made a move? From what I saw during my visit to Lion Manor, you possess an incredibly lethal anomaly. Why hold back?”

“…”

Leon ignored the question entirely. After giving the scarred man a quick once-over, he continued scanning for any sign of the real body. The moment he heard the approaching footsteps, Leon had used the Black Goat’s Soul Vision to inspect the situation. Though the figure before them appeared solid, its body lacked a soul—it was merely an empty shell.

Even stranger, under the Black Goat’s vision, nothing else seemed out of place. The world remained unchanged, and the souls of everyone around—including prisoners and guards—were perfectly normal. It was as if the chaos caused by Leon’s demolition simply didn’t exist. In fact, some prison guard souls drifted lazily nearby, completely oblivious to reality—as though they existed on a different plane altogether.

---

While Leon puzzled over the true nature of the scarred man’s ability, the policewoman refused to accept defeat. Gritting her teeth, she emptied her magazine, firing six consecutive shots in rapid succession.

Her American-style draw technique was flawless, and the scarred man made no attempt to dodge. His face was obliterated into a gory mess unfit for television screens—but astonishingly, he remained alive. Despite being reduced to a mangled wreck, he opened his mouth to speak again—until the policewoman reloaded and fired another round directly into his throat, finally sending him crashing to the ground.

“It seems you really aren’t planning to fight back.”

With steady footfalls, another identical scarred man emerged from the stairwell. He nudged aside the corpse belonging to him and stepped forward to confront Leon and the policewoman once more.

Glancing briefly at Leon, who resumed deep contemplation without reacting, the newcomer shook his head in resignation.

“You’re cautious… Fine.”

In less than half a second, the scarred man unholstered his weapon, flicked off the safety, and aimed squarely at Leon’s forehead. Yet despite his speed, he couldn’t outpace the ever-vigilant policewoman.

Having learned that shooting the head was ineffective, she adjusted her aim this time, firing a single precise shot through the scarred man’s wrist. Before he could retaliate, she followed up with another bullet to his throat, dropping him instantly.

“Troublesome…”

With an irritated mutter, two more versions of the scarred man emerged from the stairwell. Both raised their guns simultaneously, training their sights on Leon.

Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!

Ignoring the surreal sight of multiple clones, the policewoman gritted her teeth and unleashed a barrage of bullets, managing to take both men down before they could fire.

But the nightmare wasn’t over. This time, a chorus of synchronized footsteps filled the air as over a dozen scarred figures marched out of the stairwell. Each moved with mechanical precision, drawing weapons and aiming in perfect unison.

“What the hell are these things…?”

Horrified by the sight of so many armed duplicates, the policewoman kicked open the door to the interrogation room behind her, intending to drag Leon inside for cover. However, the scarred men acted faster. Just as she grabbed Leon’s shoulder, their barrels swiveled upward, locking onto their targets.

BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!

Trigger after trigger was pulled in rapid succession. A deafening roar erupted, followed by a torrent of gunfire that filled the narrow corridor like a relentless summer rainstorm.
