Chapter 153: Gu Lang’s Words of Wisdom

The two screens in the livestream room were shaking slightly as Wang Ping held the tablet, but thanks to the rearview mirror camera, everyone could still see what the honey badger was up to.

Stuck between a rock and a hard place—this perfectly described Wang Ping’s current predicament.

Gu Lang was busy driving, completely oblivious to what Wang Ping was doing, leaving the poor honey badger to handle things on his own.

“Yeah, yeah, yeah! Boss is smart! Quickly turn the camera toward the back!”

“That’s genius! Does Boss know how to read the chat?”

“You’re overthinking it—he probably learned this from the streamer during their time together.”

“You think too much? Then explain how you’d teach an animal about livestreaming!”

“Stop arguing and watch what Boss does next!”

“Turn around, turn around already!”

If the comments had sound, the livestream would have been filled with shouts and screams. Unfortunately for the excited viewers, they celebrated too soon.

Wang Ping squinted at the barrage of messages. The more people urged him to turn the tablet toward the pursuing yaks, the more he stubbornly refused to move, pretending to casually inspect the device like some curious critter who just wanted to play with it.

Internally, Wang Ping was kicking himself.

Everything had happened so fast that he hadn’t thought twice before grabbing the tablet. His initial idea was simple: use the opportunity to show the audience what enraged wild yaks looked like, serving as a cautionary tale for future travelers to Tibet. But only after picking up the tablet did he remember—this wasn’t something a honey badger should be doing.

Finally, once the Jeep stabilized its speed and put enough distance between itself and the yak herd, a relieved Gu Lang finally noticed Wang Ping’s awkward fumbling and took the tablet from him. Leaning out the window, he pointed the camera toward the chase unfolding behind them.

“Holy crap… intense!”

“The one in front is huge! I always thought yaks were just fluffy cows!”

“So powerful—if they hit the car, the car’s flipping for sure.”

“No wonder the streamer ran!”

“At this rate, he’s doomed!”

“Thank goodness he didn’t stall earlier—that was way too dangerous.”

“Oh no, now I’m scared to go to Tibet again…”

“IllegalAccount gifts Super Rocket x2… Bro, impressive! You’re making documentaries now!”

“DragonflySlice gifts Yacht x6…”

A flood of reward notifications filled the chat, leaving Gu Lang basking in satisfaction—and conveniently forgetting how close he’d come to disaster moments ago.

The Jeep continued speeding northward, crossing the provincial bridge over the Za'Gya Zangbo River. The relatively narrow span stretched out the yak herd, causing those lagging behind to gradually slow down and stop. Eventually, even the leading yaks gave up their pursuit, turning back to rejoin their group.

Glancing at the navigation map inside the car, Wang Ping mentally calculated their position.
“Well, looks like we don’t need to stress about which direction to take anymore.”

After circling north of Selincuo Lake and traveling west along the provincial road for roughly 0 kilometers, the Jeep veered off-road into a canyon nestled between two mountains, about 30 kilometers wide. By sunset, they arrived at a massive river nearly 100 meters across.

The roaring waters flowed down from the northern snow-capped peaks, cutting through the valley from north to south and blocking their path westward.

It was past 6 PM, and while there were still nearly two hours of daylight left on the plateau, most areas back in the lowlands would already be bathed in the glow of evening lights and rising smoke from cooking fires.

Unlike the lush greenery and rolling vegetation of the valley, the riverside felt desolate. Wang Ping spotted chunks of floating ice crashing against rocks with loud splashes, instantly extinguishing any fleeting thoughts of fishing.

While it was hard to tell if fish existed in such near-freezing water, it was easy enough to imagine how quickly his furry paws might freeze.

Gu Lang, however, seemed utterly unfazed by the blocked path ahead. With great enthusiasm, he hopped out of the car to set up the tent, taking the opportunity to boast to his online audience.

“I’ve reflected on last night’s experience and realized that setting up a tent in the wild requires skill.”

“This time, I chose higher ground. Even if it rains tonight, there won’t be any pooling water.”
“These steel cables must be secured tightly—it’s what saved the tent from blowing away last night.”

“Look at these two rivers flanking our campsite. I walked quite a distance earlier to find a shallow spot to cross. The water was icy cold. If there are wild animals nearby, they definitely wouldn’t dare cross, ensuring our safety.”

Had it not been for the unmistakable traces of Tibetan antelope droppings on the tent and sleeping bags, someone might have actually believed Gu Lang’s tall tales.

Recalling the morning’s chaos, the livestream chat erupted in laughter. Some urged Gu Lang not to focus solely on sleeping tonight but instead edit and upload the day’s footage early so everyone could enjoy fresh memes. Others praised his rapid improvement.

Gu Lang was indeed learning quickly—almost as if he were a natural. Perhaps experiencing challenges firsthand made the lessons stick better. Still, Wang Ping stood atop the Jeep’s hood, his furry face clouded with deep thought.

Across the river, Gu Lang had chosen a triangular patch of land where two streams converged. While the elevated terrain offered advantages, something about it nagged at Wang Ping. He glanced at the towering snow-capped peaks opposite and then at the rivers winding around the mountain feet, converging below.

“Backed by towering mountains, with flowing rivers in front… Hmm, why does this combination feel so familiar?” Scratching his head, Wang Ping couldn’t recall where he’d encountered such a description before.

Once the tent setup neared completion, Gu Lang retrieved the tripod from the car, placing the tablet in front of the tent to record Wang Ping. Then, with a mysterious smile, he headed toward the mountain base to gather dry firewood.

The damaged light stand meant that illumination tonight would come either from the Jeep’s headlights or a campfire. Naturally, Gu Lang opted against using the vehicle’s battery—despite being somewhat inexperienced in outdoor pursuits, when it came to cars, he was a seasoned expert. He didn’t want to risk draining the battery and having to hike on foot tomorrow while carrying Wang Ping on his back.

Besides, a campfire offered another advantage: warmth.

Gu Lang had begun to realize that the plateau’s climate was far beyond what his limited outdoor experience could predict. Being prepared was always wise. As he imagined moving the heated ground surface beneath the fire to create a makeshift “floor heating” system by relocating the tent, he felt a surge of pride.

Lost in these thoughts, Gu Lang quickened his pace, feeling increasingly capable.

Meanwhile, Wang Ping sat in front of the tent, munching on beef jerky, letting the livestream audience comment freely as they watched Gu Lang bustle about with a baffling grin plastered across his face.

“How strange… What’s got Gu Lang so happy? He’s acting like a lovesick fool.”
