Chapter 134: The Mighty Orbital Command

Deep beneath the Radar Control Center, in a dimly lit underground command post, wounded soldiers leaned against the walls of narrow corridors. From behind closed doors came faint groans—those with severe injuries were fading fast. The air was thick with the mingling scents of antiseptic, gunpowder, and blood—a grim reminder of the battle that had raged just moments ago.

Though the situation seemed dire, fear was nowhere to be found on the faces of these rebel fighters. Instead, their expressions burned with anger and resolve. They had likely accepted their fate long before this uprising began; each one prepared to lay down their lives for the cause.

Nehemiah’s orders had already reached the command center without resistance, allowing Tang Fang to move freely as he entered the nerve center of operations. A group of special forces officers huddled over tactical maps immediately stood at attention upon his arrival. With a slight nod to acknowledge them, Tang Fang stepped up to the console and initiated a system reboot. As radar arrays flickered back online, he swiftly issued several commands.

The "Heavy Armor Warrior" units, controlled remotely, emitted electromagnetic waves that radiated outward from their control nodes. By adjusting the scanning angles of various radar systems stationed around the base, it would be easy to pinpoint suspicious signals based on their intensity.

His hypothesis proved correct almost instantly. One signal source, centered near the communications tower, pulsed out specific frequencies across the perimeter of the base.

"We've got it," Tang Fang announced, transmitting coordinates and combat directives to all Terran units. Without wasting another moment, he retraced his steps toward the surface.

In the main hall of the Radar Control Center, Sam's body lay covered in silence. Grant, Joey, and others stood solemnly nearby, grief etched into their faces. When they saw Tang Fang approach, they scrambled to their feet. "Did you find it?"

Tang Fang gave a curt nod. "I did." Without further explanation, he turned and headed straight for the communications tower. Grant and the rest grabbed their weapons and followed closely behind.

The path ahead had been cleared by advancing Terran troops who had swept away any remaining enemies. Within five minutes, Tang Fang and his team arrived unopposed at the tower. Lying abandoned in an alley beside the entrance were three destroyed Heavy Armor Warriors, while a hundred Marines formed a tight perimeter around the structure.

A massive breach marred the reinforced steel door, blasted open by Marauder concussion grenades, revealing a flickering corridor beyond. Bodies of government soldiers littered the floor, and overhead lights sputtered erratically, spitting sparks into the air. Pools of blood flowed like rivers, spreading slowly toward the distance. The heavy boots of Marine armor splashed through puddles of crimson, sending arcs of red flying with every step.

No words were spoken as the group descended deeper into the building. Each breath felt heavier than the last, weighed down by the oppressive atmosphere. Ahead of them, Tang Fang moved like a harbinger of death, his presence exuding an aura of restrained fury.

Inside the underground command room of the communications tower, high-ranking officers of the Aerospace Legion lay dead, victims of earlier skirmishes with the Marines. The only survivor was a clean-shaven man with sharp features, pale-faced but defiant.

Tang Fang approached him silently, lowering his gaze to meet the man’s eyes with an icy stare.

"Don’t… don’t kill me!" the man stammered. "Only I know the activation codes for those Heavy Armor Warriors. I can help—"

Before he could finish, Tang Fang raised his weapon. Three sharp bursts echoed through the chamber as metal spikes tore through the man’s body, embedding themselves deep into the concrete floor.

“Why…?” the dying man gasped.

“This is for Sam,” Tang Fang said coldly, stepping aside. Grant stepped forward, raising the Paladin M5 pistol Tang Fang had given him.

Another shot rang out, and a spray of blood erupted from the back of the man’s head, painting the monitor screens behind him. “And this is for our comrades who suffered under radiation poisoning.”

With the murderer avenged, the weight pressing down on Tang Fang’s chest lifted slightly. He exhaled deeply, muttering softly, “Sam, rest now. The gun I promised you will one day rest against Colcrav’s head, and his blood will honor your memory.”

“I’ll handle cleanup,” Grant said, glancing at Tang Fang before leading his men out of the room.

Tang Fang gestured to Housen and Arroz. “Take your teams and search the base thoroughly. Leave no enemy alive.”

Of the three, Housen shared the deepest bond with Sam. His face remained impassive as he replied, “Understood,” then led his squad of Marauders away. Arroz followed suit, taking his Marines to sweep the outer areas. Only Tang Fang remained in the room.

Minutes—or perhaps hours—passed before Nehemiah entered with two rebel soldiers. “Our comms equipment was damaged during the firefight. I’ll retrieve the armored vehicle from the farm.”

Tang Fang nodded. “Go.”

As Nehemiah left, Tang Fang rose to leave as well when something caught his eye—a satellite map displayed on a nearby console. Below the image, text indicated it represented the orbital communication network surrounding Planet Krotan.

After a moment’s thought, Tang Fang walked over and pressed the touchscreen controls, sifting through data maps. While orbital distribution wasn’t his primary concern, he sought radar stations along the Gant Mountains to plot safer routes. To his surprise, instead of finding the station layout, he stumbled upon encrypted military documents.

“Usable data detected. Initiating diagnostic programs…”

“Diagnostics complete. Compatibility confirmed: Terran.”

“Parsing data…”

“Engineering Level D+. Research tree unlocked. Technology Level 1. Buildings unlocked: ‘Orbital Command Center,’ ‘Missile Turret.’”

“Orbital Command Center and Missile Turrets?” This experience mirrored what happened at Makanda Armory. Missiles? Pointless. What use was the Orbital Command Center?

Dropping MULEs? No minerals to mine. Radar? Useless outside real space. Supply drops? Marginally useful for reinforcing buildings or cutting costs—but still largely redundant.

Still curious, Tang Fang accessed the system interface and selected the Terran base upgrade option. Moments later, construction sounds filled the air as a satellite antenna array rose from the ground. The Orbital Command Center was complete.

Inspecting the new abilities listed in the bottom-right corner of the menu, he hovered over the "Scanner Sweep" ability. Before he could test it, metallic tones chimed in his earpiece. “Satellites detected in orbit. Establish connection?”

Orbital satellites? Connection? Tang Fang hesitated but decided to proceed. “Initiate connection.”

“Select target satellite.” The Adjutant presented a familiar map of orbital satellites.

Experimentally, Tang Fang chose a civilian-grade satellite.

“Analyzing signal…”

“Analysis complete… Decrypting algorithm… Generating key…”

“Key generated. Satellite KLT-C-462 online.”

Simultaneously, a holographic control panel appeared in Tang Fang’s mind, displaying rows of complex commands.

Overwhelmed, Tang Fang sighed. “Adjutant, can we negotiate here?”

“Commander, please issue instructions.” Clearly, negotiation wasn’t part of the AI’s programming.

After a pause, Tang Fang ordered, “Extract satellite information.”

What followed was a flood of disjointed voices:

“You jump, I jump…”

“L’Oreal, I’m free tonight. Room reserved at Caromosa. Same time, 8 PM.”

“Old friend, Lord Yadan is hosting a small celebration tonight. Care to join?”

“HQ, HQ, enemy artillery bombarding our position. Requesting backup!”

The cacophony nearly overwhelmed Tang Fang. “Adjutant, STOP!”

The voices faded, leaving him rubbing his temples. “Can we filter irrelevant mobile communications? Prioritize critical intel.”

“Yes. Please set channel priorities.”

Tang Fang smiled. “Governor Rheinstadt’s communications first, military second.”

“Settings applied. System will connect via optimal satellites. Please wait…”

Stepping out of the virtual interface, Tang Fang took a deep breath. An Orbital Command Center capable of hacking any orbital satellite meant unparalleled surveillance. Enemy movements, troop deployments, mission plans—all laid bare unless they resorted to ancient fiber-optic cables. But in this war of mobility, such setups were impractical.

Returning to the system, Tang Fang noticed multiple commercial satellites above the capital had synced simultaneously. Just how many satellites could the Orbital Command Center link to?
