Chapter 105: Negotiation and Compromise
Bobby Lion passed away peacefully.
At least, that’s what Leon told himself as he stared at the man’s lifeless face—eyes wide with fury, veins bulging in his neck, and an expression of unbridled hatred frozen on his features. Yet somehow, deep down, Leon convinced himself that Bobby had died satisfied. After all, wasn’t it every warrior's dream to go out in a blaze of glory?
Before Bobby could utter his last words—or worse, reveal some inconvenient truth—Leon had forcibly ripped The Heart of Ambition from him, effectively ending the Duke of Lionheart’s firstborn heir. As the crowd of Lion clansmen collapsed around them, exhausted beyond measure, Leon sank to the ground, letting his hand rest wearily on the head of the black goat beside him.
It was infuriating, really. Here he was, battered and bloodied after fighting tooth and nail, only for the biggest prize to fall into this idiotic creature’s lap.
Through his soul vision, Leon watched as waves of fragmented souls surged toward the black goat, forming rivers of shimmering light. He absently rubbed its forehead, feeling both pride and irritation.

“Well,” Leon muttered under his breath, “you used to be such a joke, but now… two hundred sinful souls later, and you’re finally starting to look like a Greater Demon.”
He paused, glaring at the goat, which was greedily inhaling the fragments of souls.
“Enough.” With a sharp smack to the back of its head, Leon snapped, “Your limit’s eight points. Any more than that, and you won’t get stronger—you’ll just make things worse.”
“What?!” The black goat whipped its head around, indignation flaring in its glowing red eyes. But when it met Leon’s blazing soul-fire gaze, its bravado faltered. Instead, it tried reasoning, “But we can save them for later! Who knows when they might come in handy?”
“No hoarding,” Leon growled, cutting it off. “We don’t have time for this. With so many deaths tonight, the Cleansing Bureau will send investigators soon. And if they find you stuffed full of soul shards, I’m screwed.”
“Huh?” The goat blinked, confused. “What do you mean ‘you’re screwed’? This was all your—ow!”
Leon smacked it again, harder this time. “Listen carefully,” he said, his tone deadly serious. “This wasn’t me—it was Bobby Lion. He went insane trying to extract information about the Cleansing Bureau from me. I tried to stop him—I swear—but there was nothing I could do. In the end, I had no choice but to kill him.”
The goat stared blankly, clearly unconvinced. “If that’s true, then why are you alive, and not him?”
“Because of you,” Leon replied smoothly, patting the goat’s head again. “Bobby’s rampage allowed you to absorb countless souls, repairing the authority Chief shattered. That gave you enough power to help me suppress his heart’s dominion over others, leaving him vulnerable to my final strike.”
“That’s ridiculous,” the goat scoffed. “I don’t have the ability to suppress anything! Your story doesn’t even make sense!”
“It doesn’t need to,” Leon shot back, his lips curling into a sly grin eerily similar to the Red-Haired Chief’s. “No one knows your body better than you do. If you say it happened, who’s going to argue?”
The goat opened its mouth to protest further but stopped short. “Fine, fine. But why were all the victims evil? Why didn’t he kill any innocents?”
“For several possible reasons,” Leon replied casually. “Maybe these people threatened Bobby’s position within the family. Or perhaps their wickedness made them too unpredictable to control, so he decided to eliminate them. Alternatively, maybe your interference protected the good guys. Take your pick—it’s your call now.”
Realization dawned on the goat’s face. “Ah, right. Whatever helps sell the story…”
Leon nodded approvingly before frowning at something nearby. Picking up The Heart of Ambition, which lay discarded on Bobby Lion’s corpse, he turned to the goat. “By the way, what’s the deal with your heart? Does it still have self-awareness after swallowing Bobby’s soul?”
“I… think so?” the goat hesitated. “I’ve never been split into seven pieces before. Honestly, I’m not sure how this works. Maybe ask it yourself?”
Leon sighed. Of course, asking the goat was pointless. Steeling himself, he reached out and grasped The Heart of Ambition. Before he could speak, however, a haughty male voice echoed in his mind—one that bore an uncanny resemblance to Bobby Lion’s.
“Remove your filthy hands.”
After delivering this curt command, The Heart of Ambition sneered through their shared soul connection. “I overheard your conversation. So, you’ve come to beg me to keep quiet, have you?”
“No begging involved,” Leon corrected calmly, fingering the Sacred Spirit Pendant hanging around his neck. “You can refuse, of course. But if you do, I’ll use this pendant to weaken you to the level of those horns over there. Then, I’ll let them erase your consciousness entirely to ensure you never leak secrets to the Cleansing Bureau.”
“You wouldn’t dare!” the heart thundered, pulsating violently with rage. “If not for the amusing slaughter you orchestrated earlier, trash like you wouldn’t even deserve to speak to me. Especially with your pitiful, weak little soul…”
Leon shook his head, gripping the pendant tighter. Just as he prepared to act, the heart’s tone shifted unexpectedly. Its arrogant tirade softened, replaced by hesitant curiosity.
“Your soul… Hmm… It’s… tolerable,” it admitted grudgingly. After forcing its way past Leon’s mental defenses and catching a glimpse of the colossal ambition buried deep within, The Heart of Ambition fell silent for a moment. When it spoke again, its usual arrogance had dimmed slightly.
“How about this… Let me become your heart, and in return, I’ll keep your secrets safe from the Cleansing Bureau. Deal?”
Leon raised an eyebrow. There was no way he’d agree to that—not after everything that had happened. Both he and the goat stood to benefit far too much from tonight’s events. Accepting this offer would be practically inviting the Bureau to investigate.
“No deal,” Leon said flatly.
“You dare reject me?!” the heart roared, incensed. Forgetting its earlier humiliation, it pressed on desperately. “Think about it again!”
Silence followed. Even the goat looked baffled.
“Oh, come on,” the heart groaned, embarrassment radiating off it in waves. Clearly, it regretted its sudden vulnerability. Still, having glimpsed the sheer magnitude of Leon’s ambition—a goal so audacious it bordered on divine—the heart couldn’t resist making one last attempt.
“Please,” it pleaded, lowering its pride yet again. “Let me be your heart. I promise I’ll obey you completely.”
