Chapter 95: I Can Fly Now!

At the Li Palace Hotel near Baita Airport, Chen Bai exhaled deeply as he watched a certain livestreamer scrawl the name "Gu Lang" onto a liability waiver with wild abandon. After placing a cardboard box brought from Shanghai in the room, Chen Bai quickly excused himself and left, declining Gu Lang’s offer to see him off. He drove through the night back to Shanghai, his urgency betraying the impression that someone might be chasing him for debts.

After a full day of driving, exhaustion had clearly taken its toll on Gu Lang. With the tacit approval of a certain honey badger, he decided to take a shower first. Meanwhile, Wang Ping eagerly opened the box Chen Bai had delivered, curious about its contents.

For different types of streamers, Douyu provided tailored equipment. Gamers and musicians typically received high-end microphones and professional cameras, while outdoor streamers were equipped with protective gear, GPS devices, and drones.

Gu Lang wasn’t particularly interested in drones, but Wang Ping was intrigued by the idea of playing around with one.

Opening the square cardboard box—measuring about 50 centimeters on each side—Wang Ping spotted the unmistakable packaging of a drone inside. Using his claws, he carefully pulled it out and placed it on the floor before unboxing it. There lay a sleek silver drone, its four arms adorned with propellers and a high-definition camera mounted at the center. When laid horizontally, the drone’s height reached about as high as Wang Ping’s shins.

During his days in the field, Wang Ping had relied on drones to monitor dangerous targets like lions from a safe distance. However, compared to the military-grade models used by WAP (World Animal Protection), this particular drone seemed more ornamental than functional. While it might suffice for occasional fun, Wang Ping doubted it could handle extended live broadcasts. Civilian drones generally offered only an hour of battery life at best, and even custom versions rarely exceeded that limit.

Stretching his limbs experimentally, Wang Ping realized that if he spread them wide, they roughly matched the size of the drone. A sudden spark of inspiration struck him.

What if he strapped this thing to his back? Could it lift him into the air? If so, controlling it remotely would make travel effortless!

"Yes—the remote control!"

Flipping the packaging over, Wang Ping found what looked like a GameBoy controller nestled in the foam beneath the drone, complete with twin antennas. Without bothering to read the manual, he rummaged through the box for batteries, inserted them into the controller, and powered it up. Instantly, indicator lights blinked to life on the drone.

Testing the joysticks tentatively, Wang Ping watched as the propellers whirred to life. The drone lifted off briefly, hovering momentarily before landing softly on the bed across the room. A mischievous grin spread across his furry face.

"Not bad!" he thought. "Let’s see if it can carry me."

Without hesitation, Wang Ping leapt onto the bed, clutching the controller in his paws. Hooking his hind legs around the drone's frame, he flipped onto his back, hoisting the device above him. Holding the controller steady, he pushed the throttle forward.

"Here we go!"

The drone hummed louder as the propellers spun faster, creating a sudden upward pull. Before Wang Ping could react, the drone yanked him off the bed. Disoriented, he instinctively grabbed onto the nearest object—the controller in his paws.

"Oh no... This isn't good!"

As the joystick tilted wildly under his grip, Wang Ping barely had time to regret his decision before being flung sideways. His vision blurred as centrifugal force sent him hurtling toward the glass door of the bathroom.

"No!"

Inside the bathroom, Gu Lang was lathering himself with soap bubbles, humming a tune while rinsing shampoo onto his hands. Just as he tipped the bottle upside down, a loud thud echoed through the room.

"Ouch! What the...?"

Startled, Gu Lang glanced up to see Wang Ping’s fuzzy face sliding down the frosted glass door.

"Ow..." The room finally echoed with Wang Ping's groan of pain.

Meanwhile, Gu Lang snapped out of his daze and looked down, only to realize he’d accidentally squeezed an entire bottle of shampoo empty. His hands were now coated in sticky green liquid, dripping through his fingers and splattering all over his feet, legs, and even the top of his head. The gooey mess clung to him everywhere.

Gu Lang: “…. What’s going on.”

Meanwhile, Wang Ping groaned in pain as he picked himself up off the floor. Rushing to check on the fallen drone, he sighed in relief—it appeared intact. Designed for rugged outdoor use, these drones were built to withstand drops from heights under two meters without issue.

Reflecting on the mishap, Wang Ping concluded that his lack of experience and awkward posture—clutching the drone with his hind legs—had caused the crash. Determined to try again, he scanned the room and noticed a small waist pouch hanging from the bedside table. Likely intended for carrying signal receivers or other gadgets, it currently held Gu Lang’s phone and miscellaneous items.

Emptying the pouch, Wang Ping stuffed the drone’s main body inside, leaving only the propeller frame exposed. Adjusting the straps to fit snugly, he slung the pouch diagonally across his chest and admired his reflection in the mirror. For a brief moment, he felt like Rocket from Guardians of the Galaxy. Shaking his head, he muttered, "Damn, my sense of style is getting weird."

Testing the setup, Wang Ping swayed his body back and forth. The drone wobbled slightly but remained securely attached. Encouraged, he retrieved the fallen controller and prepared for another attempt.

Standing on the bed, he gently nudged the throttle forward. The drone vibrated against his back, tugging him upward. Leaning forward to stabilize the drone horizontally, Wang Ping gradually increased the throttle. As the propellers spun faster, he felt his feet leave the mattress.

"Haha! Ahahaha! I’m flying!"

Overexcited, Wang Ping squeezed the throttle too hard, sending the drone rocketing straight into the ceiling.

"Crap..."

Bang!

The impact jarred the controller loose, and both Wang Ping and the now-uncontrolled drone plummeted back onto the bed.

"That was close... Good thing there’s a bed below," Wang Ping thought just as the controller bounced off the mattress and landed on the floor—joystick-side down, pressing against the ground.

Before Wang Ping could process what happened next, the drone surged forward, propelling him once again.

"No—"

Crash!

“Ow!”

Bang!

“ಥ_ಥ”

Slamming into the bathroom door, Wang Ping ricocheted backward, tracing an arc through the air before stabilizing mid-flight thanks to the still-spinning propellers. The erratic motion continued as the drone careened around the room, repeatedly smashing into walls and furniture.

In the shower, Gu Lang—who had finally managed to rinse off all the soap—stared incredulously at the blurry, fur-covered face repeatedly colliding with the glass door.

"How long have I been in here? Why are you rushing me?!" he shouted, exasperated.
