Chapter 48: The Chaos on Planet Namie

At the same time, about 500 kilometers north of the equator on Planet Namie, an increasingly fierce armed conflict was unfolding.

The Monya Empire had deployed the 3rd Armored Brigade's 2nd and 4th Battalions, the 2nd Armored Brigade's 4th Battalion, and the 1st Armored Brigade's 3rd Battalion from the 3789th Division, with a total force of around 2,400 soldiers. On the other side, the Sulru Empire had mobilized units from the Silverwing Tempest Infantry Division, including the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Battalions of the 1st Brigade, the 1st Battalion of the 3rd Brigade, and various combat support units, totaling approximately 2,000 troops.

For division-level units with no more than ten thousand soldiers, this scale of conflict clearly went beyond localized skirmishes. Moreover, the eastern front was also heating up, with reinforcements from both sides continuously streaming toward the battlefield.

Initially, both sides had expected the real confrontation to occur in three to five days, by which time defensive fortifications, frontline deployments, logistics, and detailed operational plans would have been completed. But to their surprise, the situation escalated rapidly, spiraling out of control.

All of this could be traced back to Tang Fang’s command of Zerglings in an ambush that resulted in the death of Captain Chilar Von of the Sulru Empire. Three soldiers from the Monya Empire had brazenly marched into the heart of Sulru territory, ambushing and wiping out an entire platoon before killing Captain Chilar Von right under the noses of the enemy forces—all without being seen.

To the Sulru Empire, this was not just a military loss but a slap in the face of their imperial dignity. As the direct fleet of the empire's first-in-line heir, such humiliation was intolerable. They believed it to be a carefully orchestrated scheme by the 3789th Division—a preemptive strike meant to intimidate the Silverwing Tempest Infantry Division before the war even began.

How could they tolerate this? The Silverwing Tempest Infantry Division was enraged and demanded vengeance. The honor of the Crown Prince could not be trifled with by some lowly Monya prince. Division Commander Wilder Lester personally ordered his staff to devise a counterattack plan, codenamed "Swallow's Return," aimed at avenging this insult.

After a night of meticulous planning, the operation was set. The elite "Silver Wing" Special Operations Infantry Battalion, known for its cutting-edge equipment and stealth capabilities, would serve as the main assault force, while the 2nd and 4th Battalions of the 3rd Brigade provided flank cover.

Speaking of the "Silver Wing" Special Operations Infantry Battalion, it’s impossible not to mention the origins of the "Silverwing Tempest Infantry Division." As a division-level combat unit with just over ten thousand personnel, the Silverwing Tempest Infantry Division was smaller in size compared to a typical army division. However, when it comes to combat effectiveness, it far exceeded expectations and rivaled even the most elite forces.

The Silverwing Tempest Infantry Division was renowned for two key features. First, its specialized missile battalion, equipped with long-range ballistic missiles, anti-aircraft systems, multi-functional engineering vehicles, and Mammoth close-in defense tanks. Among these, the infamous "Silver Tempest" intermediate-range ballistic missiles and their variant, the "Fury of Silver Wind," were particularly feared.

Both types of missiles could be equipped with conventional warheads or tactical nuclear warheads. However, in the vacuum environment of Planet Namie, whether they cruised or not made little difference. Relying on nuclear weapons to cause massive damage to the enemy was nothing short of laughable.

Not to mention, the powered armor suits worn by soldiers and their ground vehicles were designed to block and defend against various forms of light and thermal radiation. Aside from the absolute thermal destruction within a certain radius of the blast point, distant targets remained largely unaffected. Moreover, the Sulru Empire and the Monya Empire were currently in a state of agreed ceasefire, and the use of nuclear weapons was explicitly prohibited!

What truly worried the upper echelons of the 3789th Division was the precision of these missile strikes. The guidance system of the warheads combined GPS guidance in the initial phase with multi-aperture radar imaging and infrared imaging guidance in the terminal phase, creating a composite guidance mode. Additionally, the missiles could fly at extremely low altitudes, and their shells were coated with radar-absorbing materials, maximizing stealth to evade enemy anti-missile defense networks and deliver pinpoint strikes on targets.

Second, there was the "Silver Wing" Special Operations Infantry Battalion itself. Equipped with the latest "Silver Steel" powered armor, these soldiers could attach small glider drones to achieve limited flight. With stealth coatings and camouflage systems, they excelled in covert operations like sabotage, decapitation strikes, and behind-enemy-lines rescues. Of course, there were quite a few drawbacks. First, the cost was exorbitant. Second, limited by the weight of the armor and the carrying capacity of the drones, the flight range was relatively short. Furthermore, to ensure stealth and agility, heavy weapons and excessive ammunition could not be mounted.

Thus, the name "Silverwing Tempest Infantry Division" derived from the synergy between the "Silver Tempest" missiles and the "Silver Wing" special forces.

The "Swallow's Return" operation called for the 3rd Mechanized Infantry Brigade's 2nd and 4th Battalions to advance along the eastern flank, creating a diversionary threat against the 3789th Division's forward defenses. Meanwhile, the 2nd Mechanized Infantry Brigade's 1st and 2nd Battalions remained in reserve, ready to strike. Once the enemy focused on the east, the "Silver Wing" battalion would launch a frontal breakthrough, bypassing frontline outposts using their superior equipment and striking from behind to neutralize them. This would serve dual purposes: retaliation and reducing the enemy's ability to detect incoming "Silver Tempest" missiles.

The operation plan this time was meticulously crafted, and the execution was carried out with utmost secrecy. The "Silver Wing" Special Operations Infantry Battalion crossed the 3789th Division's defensive lines without incident, penetrating deep into enemy territory.

According to the original plan, the next step was to split into smaller groups and launch successive ambushes on guard posts and radar monitoring points. However, what Battalion Commander Frederick hadn’t anticipated was the sudden appearance of a group of Sulru Empire engineers right under their noses. These engineers were tasked with setting up a multi-module quantum radar surveillance network.

Frederick wasn’t one to hesitate when opportunity knocked. With a quick turn of his cunning mind, he immediately devised a plan to deal with these engineers.

What troubled the high command of the 3789th Division most was the "Silver Tempest" missile system. Once hostilities broke out, these highly concealed and precision-guided long-range weapons would pose a significant threat—whether targeting command centers or logistics bases. Yet, in order to protect the ancient Epsilon ruins from discovery, they had no choice but to station their base near the equator, leaving it exposed within the enemy’s firing range.

Command centers and supply depots could be relocated, but how could the Epsilon ruins be moved? If everyone evacuated and a single "Silver Tempest" missile struck, it would obliterate the protective cover, exposing the ancient structures beneath. What would happen next? It didn’t take much imagination.

Thus, the 3789th Division had no option but to hold its ground, enduring enemy fire until the decryption work was complete.

To counter the threat of enemy missile attacks, division headquarters decided to deploy ship-grade multi-module quantum radar arrays at the frontlines to detect the "Silver Tempest" series missiles.

And so, the stage was set for an intense confrontation. Frederick resolved to wipe out this entire half-battalion of engineers, thwarting the completion of the radar surveillance network.

One side was a ferocious tiger emerging from the mountains, while the other was a flock of sheep ripe for slaughter. The outcome was predictable. As soon as the two sides engaged, the battle quickly turned one-sided. The engineers were forced into retreat, leaving behind a trail of bodies.

Just as you never know what Santa Claus might stuff in your stocking, Frederick couldn’t have imagined that during his pursuit, he’d encounter a small detachment of armored troops rushing to reinforce the eastern front.

The enemy force wasn’t large—two companies, totaling around 200 men at most. But Frederick, driven by greed, decided to annihilate them entirely, intending to leave nothing behind.

However, unlike the soft targets presented by the engineers, the armored unit put up fierce resistance. When Frederick realized the tide was turning against him and called for a strategic retreat, a fast-moving Monya relief force arrived on speed-focused troop carriers, catching them off guard.

Seeing the situation deteriorate, Frederick led his troops southward in retreat. But to his shock, the 3789th Division abandoned its previous defensive posture and launched a relentless counteroffensive. Unmanned fighter drones, armed gunships, and hidden anti-aircraft networks poured fire onto the retreating "Silver Wing" battalion.

In order to intercept them, they even exposed underground anti-aircraft installations that had been carefully concealed.

Terrified, Frederick sent a distress signal to the nearby 1st Battalion of the 3rd Brigade stationed near the equator.

As a result, the 1st Battalion crossed the equator and advanced northward.

News of the Sulru Empire’s invasion reached division headquarters via frontline outposts. Francis urgently redeployed two battalions from the 3rd Armored Brigade stationed in the west, ordering them to encircle the predetermined engagement zone. He demanded they teach these rule-breaking, ambush-setting conspirators a lesson—and if possible, completely wipe out the "Silver Wing" Special Operations Infantry Battalion.

With the 3789th Division sending more reinforcements, the 1st Battalion of the 3rd Brigade, which had rushed north of the equator to provide support, not only failed to rescue their comrades but also found themselves surrounded by an enemy force twice their size, making a breakout nearly impossible.

However, if they simply allowed the enemy to annihilate both the "Silver Wing" battalion and the 1st Battalion, how would they continue the fight afterward?

After careful deliberation, Wilder Lester, commander of the Silverwing Tempest Mechanized Infantry Division, issued orders to launch a full-scale offensive ahead of schedule.

Seeing Wilder’s fury-driven advance, Francis wasn’t about to back down either. With a flurry of commands, the combat units of the 3789th Division mobilized fully to meet the invading forces head-on.

Though both Francis and Wilder appeared confident and composed in their command centers, inwardly, they were far from calm. Both were swallowing bitter pills, unable to voice their frustrations.

According to Francis’s plan, this war needed to be prolonged as much as possible. At the very least, they had to wait until all defensive fortifications were completed. Then, relying on favorable terrain, they could engage in protracted positional warfare and attrition tactics. As long as they could hold out until the decryption work was finished, it would count as victory.

What baffled Francis was why Wilder, usually cautious and level-headed, had suddenly gone off-script—or perhaps lost his mind. Attacking now made no sense. He had intended to crush the "Silver Wing" battalion—a move that would have dealt a devastating blow to the enemy’s morale—but… but… how had things spiraled to this point? War had erupted unexpectedly!

On the other side, Wilder sat before the command console, clutching a cup of coffee, his expression serious and focused.

Master strategist? Decisive tactician? To hell with that! In truth, the old man felt worse than if he’d swallowed a steaming pile of excrement.

That despicable Francis had outmaneuvered him again, damn it! Originally, according to the planned strategy, the "Silver Wing" battalion was supposed to operate behind enemy lines, coordinating with the special missile battalion to disrupt the enemy’s operations. Meanwhile, the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Mechanized Infantry Brigades would advance on multiple fronts, layering encirclements to find weak points in the enemy’s defenses. Once identified, they would concentrate their highly mobile forces to break through, overturning the enemy’s entire defensive system and securing victory.

But now, here they were, locked in a brutal head-to-head clash. FUCK! All those carefully prepared tactics were wasted!

Both Francis and Wilder blamed each other entirely, completely unaware that this whole mess was nothing more than a ridiculous and laughable accident. And the true culprit behind it all—Tang Fang—was blissfully ignorant, happily tormenting those bat-like creatures that he found far more enticing than the legendary beauties in the history.
