Chapter 11: The Might of the Queen

According to the game's description, Zerg units receive commands from the Overmind or the Queen of Blades through floating Overlords. If there aren't enough Overlords, a population cap issue arises. (Note: One Overlord increases the population cap by 8.)

When Tang Fang selected a larva and moved the cursor to the Overlord production window, he froze, entering a state of shock.

300 crystals? It costs 300 crystals? Are you kidding me? That's three times the cost in the game.

This thing can't attack, nor defend, and it’s just a neural network hub, like the Terran Supply Depot or Protoss Pylon. How could it cost 300 crystals? That's practically robbery!

The smile disappeared from Tang Fang's face, and his brow furrowed into a tight frown.

Bang, bang, bang.

Suddenly, three gunshots rang out. Turning around, he saw Arroz holding a Thunderstorm II shotgun, blasting three rock bugs crawling out of the nearby tunnel into pieces of debris.

The crystal count jumped three times, reaching 100, but Tang Fang's face showed no sign of joy. At this collection speed, he’d need to kill 100 more rock bugs just to hatch one Overlord.

With a grim expression, he continued forward. About ten minutes later, a glimmer of light caught his eye as he reached the end of the tunnel, where a wide, ten-meter spiral rock cave appeared.

Arroz frowned, surveying the area. The rocky walls on both sides of the spacious spiral cave were dotted with numerous holes of various sizes.

“So all those crisscrossing tunnels above lead here. This must be the underground world’s transportation hub.” He speculated.

Tang Fang nodded. “Judging by the direction of this path, it should lead to the bottom of the cave.”

The woman said nothing, her gaze fixed on the purple crystals protruding from the cracks in the rocks on both sides. “Hanjing Crystals... so many Hanjing Crystals. Is this really just a Class-7 resource planet?” she murmured in a low voice.

Hanjing Crystals were a rare mineral, capable of being refined into high-strength, corrosion-resistant, heat-resistant special titanium alloys, one of the main materials for building space warships.

“Judging by the density of the Hanjing Crystals, it's approaching the level of a Class-5 resource planet,” Arroz casually added.

Tang Fang glanced at the glowing purple crystals on the ceiling and then suddenly turned to look at the dark tunnel behind them. “Someone’s coming. Quick, hide.”

He darted into a tunnel without another word. Arroz and the woman both reacted quickly, slipping into the shadows of other tunnels.

Sh-sh-sh…

In no time, the sound of hurried footsteps echoed through the tunnel, followed by a barrage of gunfire and the shouts of men.

Looks like it’s Byron’s group.

Tang Fang peeked out slightly, catching glimpses of flashes of light from deep within the dark tunnel. The shadows on the rock walls grew longer, and soon, three figures appeared, stumbling and running toward them.

Gunfire continued from behind, and the prisoners who had chosen to follow Byron emerged, desperately fleeing down the tunnel.

“One, two, three…”

Tang Fang counted silently. When he reached "eight," Byron and Hausen appeared, firing as they retreated.

There had originally been twelve people following Byron. Now there were only eleven. What happened to the other one?

The answer quickly became clear. Under the flashes of gunfire, the end of the tunnel erupted with the screeches of bugs, and a massive swarm of rock bugs surged toward Byron's group like a tidal wave.

“Hurry! Don’t scatter! Head for the open area below the cave,” Byron shouted, his previous elegance gone, as he fired frantically, his voice hoarse from yelling.

Faced with the endless swarm, scattering in this environment would only lead to death. Their only hope was to reach the bottom of the cave, where they could use the terrain to their advantage and fight for survival.

Hausen and the others had all served in the military and received tactical training, so they knew exactly what to do in this situation. The three at the front cleared the path, three in the middle kept watch, and the last three helped Byron cover the rear.

Watching the swarm of bugs behind Byron from the shadows, Arroz couldn’t help but gasp. Judging from the momentum of the swarm, there were at least four or five hundred of them.

In the light from the automatic rifles, he could see that besides the usual rock bugs, there were strange, larger creatures four or five times the size. They were spitting a glowing green slime. Byron, Hausen, and the others were clearly wary of this substance, always keeping a distance of at least a hundred meters from these strange creatures.

Should they stay or go?

Arroz looked across the tunnel, only to see Tang Fang lying motionless in the shadows, showing no sign of leaving.

In another nearby tunnel, the woman crouched behind a rock, eyes sharp as she watched the situation unfold.

Unlike Byron and the others, Tang Fang wasn’t afraid. In fact, there was a faint smile on his lips. He had been worried about not having enough life energy to hatch an Overlord, but now the swarm had delivered itself right to him.

Neither Byron nor the swarm noticed the people hiding in the cave walls along the sides.

Only when Byron’s group had moved further away and most of the swarm had passed did Tang Fang rise slowly. With a flash of gray shadows, a series of Zerglings darted out, cutting the bug army in half.

The Queen was also released. When the massive creature, nearly four meters tall and six or seven meters long, with sharp, deadly limbs, appeared in the center of the cave and crushed a dozen rock bugs under its weight, Tang Fang was stunned.

This thing was a walking tank of flesh! It didn’t even need to use its sharp main limbs. A single sweep of its blade-like hind legs already left a pile of rock bug corpses beside it.

Eight Zerglings surrounded nearly 300 rock bugs, their sharp claws piercing the bugs’ bodies and tearing them apart with a single pull, sending a spray of yellow fluid onto the ground, leaving behind corpses split in two.

Amid the swarm were several of the strange bugs that spit slime, their bodies similar to the rock bugs but with mutated mouthparts, resembling long straws. The green glowing slime shot out from them like a jet of fluid under high pressure.

The powerful acid that could melt flesh in seconds and even corrode rock hit the Queen but didn’t harm it at all. Instead, it only provoked its bloodthirsty and violent instincts.

Screeech!

With a sharp cry, the Queen's piercing eyes flashed blood red. Its crest shook, and several bone spikes hidden under its exoskeleton shot out instanlty.

The bone spikes sliced through the air with a sharp, whistling sound. The tough shells of the slime-spitting bugs were no match, as the spikes tore through them like paper, spraying yellow-green fluid in all directions.

The immense force sent their bodies flying backward, slamming them into the stone walls and turning them into a splatter of flesh.

One Queen, plus ten Zerglings, could easily rival an infantry platoon in combat power.

The darkness was their domain, the abyss their nest. This was a one-sided slaughter. In just a few minutes, over 300 rock bugs, including the mutated acid-spitting ones, were wiped out entirely.
