Chapter 10: Overflowing Power
"You’re not dead?" Grosso's cold expression twisted, his rough, scarred face twitching uncontrollably. To survive that kind of peril? It must be said, his luck was unbelievable.
"Of course. I haven't even thanked you for the 'gift' yet."
Dika swallowed his last breath, the blood from his wounds soaking his entire body in red. Tang Fang, as if discarding trash, tossed the corpse aside and calmly walked towards Arroz and his companion.
A gleam flashed in Arroz's eyes, but soon he returned to his usual lazy demeanor. However, the woman beside him looked at the two strange life forms behind Tang Fang with astonishment, unable to comprehend what was happening.
"Open fire, kill him!" Grosso roared. That son of a bitch—how dare he mock him!
Rage spread across Grosso’s burn-scarred face, a brewing storm ready to explode. Having served in the military for ten years, his body emanated a ruthless, iron-blooded aura. Yet, this punk, who probably hadn’t even grown all his wisdom teeth, dared to ignore his presence and casually walk onto the battlefield.
Anyone who provoked Grosso had to pay the price, just like the women who refused to sleep with him—she, her children, her subordinates, and even the entire space station had to be buried alongside his lost love.
Gunfire erupted, bullets whizzing out in a hail.
Arroz remained expressionless. The woman frowned but said nothing.
The bullets, however, struck the Zergling, eliciting a cry of pain.
Grosso was stunned. The scene before him only fueled his savagery. As he continued his wild shooting, he reached for a high-explosive grenade from his waist. If bullets couldn’t kill them, then he'd blow them to pieces.
However, just as he pried open the grenade's cap and was about to press the detonation button, a shadow flashed in his peripheral vision.
Boom.
A loud explosion shattered the rocks that served as Grosso’s cover. In the next moment, a cold sensation swept across his lower body. Something like a scorpion's tail had pierced his abdomen, lifting his body into the air.
Grosso gripped the strange creature impaling him, blood gushing from his mouth.
What is this? What the hell is this?
The four men beside him were frozen in place, their eyes fixated on the swaying body of Grosso. Cold sweat dripped down their temples, soaking their heads in a blink.
"What is that thing? Oh fuck, what the hell is that?" a wiry man shouted, as if his screams could dispel the fear in his heart.
"I don’t want to die. I don’t want to die. I’m not ready to die!" Another man crawled backward, his face stained red with Grosso’s blood.
The other two remained silent, but their trembling bodies betrayed the terror that gripped them.
Grosso eventually succumbed to death. As he drew his last breath, the creature that had impaled him withdrew its tail, letting his massive frame fall from several meters in the air and splatter blood onto the rocks below.
It was horrifying! Absolutely terrifying! Every one of these prisoners had killed someone before. They had seen battlefields drenched in blood and torn flesh, but now they were reduced to cowering behind cover, trembling.
Human fear stems from the unknown, and these terrifying creatures—none of them had ever seen or even heard of such beasts.
Fight back? Avenge Grosso? No one would be that crazy! It would be suicide!
Run! Split up! There are so many tunnels here, find one and hide! Maybe we’ll survive!
The four men, almost simultaneously, had the same thought. They exchanged glances, then scrambled to their feet and scattered in all directions.
Unfortunately, they had overestimated their abilities. Arroz had circled around them unnoticed. With a flash of his gun, the wiry man screamed and collapsed, twitching a few times before going still.
The woman acted even faster. As one of the enemies turned to flee, she leaped from the shadows, her knife slicing across his throat in one swift motion.
The remaining two didn’t fare any better. One fell to the claws of a Zergling, and the other to the tail of a Spine Crawler.
In just a few short breaths, the battle was over. Grosso and his eight men were all dead, slaughtered on the spot.
Tang Fang took a deep breath and recalled the Spine Crawler, leaving only two Zerglings by his side.
After looting the dead men's equipment and food, Arroz and the woman approached Tang Fang.
"How do you make them follow your commands?" the woman couldn’t help but ask.
Tang Fang didn’t answer. He stood, slung his rifle over his shoulder, and walked toward the nearby cave entrance.
The woman frowned, wanting to ask more, but Arroz pulled her back. "You have your secrets, I have mine, and he certainly has things he doesn’t want to talk about."
Tang Fang paid no attention to their conversation. The fact that they had helped him kill Lawrence and his men showed their loyalty. They had killed three for him, so he would kill ten, even a hundred, for them. He lived by one principle: treat others the way they treat you.
As for his secrets, he wasn’t worried they would spread. First, they had built a mutual trust. Second, even if they told others, who would believe the words of convicted murderers? The empire wouldn’t take their ramblings seriously—that would be laughable.
Next, Tang Fang shifted his focus back to the system interface. The life energy collected from the Rock Bugs along the way, combined with the energy from Grosso’s group of eight, brought his crystal count to nearly two hundred.
After some hesitation, he selected one of the larvae near the Hatchery and pressed the Queen's production button.
A Queen’s health far exceeded that of a Zergling, and it could fire venomous spikes, attacking both ground and air units. Additionally, it could spawn larvae, spread Creep tumors, and restore health, making it incredibly versatile, even if it wasn’t as strong offensively as the Spine Crawler.
When the terrifying Queen emerged, standing on the Creep waiting for orders, Tang Fang could hardly contain his laughter. As the swarm slowly expanded, his chances of survival grew.
He had to thank Wei Haitao. If it weren’t for his malicious sabotage, Tang Fang wouldn’t have gathered so much life energy to build his swarm.
The mission was only halfway through, but he had already made significant progress. If he could gather a few hundred more units of life energy, he could create an army of Zerglings. Coupled with the Queen and the Spine Crawler, Wei Haitao, or even an entire company, wouldn’t scare him.
Fifteen minutes passed. Half an hour passed. The three of them slowly descended into the large cavern, encountering a few more Rock Bugs along the way, but they were easily dispatched by the trio and the Zerglings. Without any further surprises, they reached the bottom of the cavern.
They were now close to the mission's objective, only a few hundred meters away. Arroz remained calm, while the woman showed a hint of excitement. As for Tang Fang, his grin nearly split his face.
In that time, the Zerg base had produced two or three extra Drones, eight Zerglings, and counting the two by his side, he now had a total of ten Zerglings, along with one Spine Crawler and a Queen.
Crystals left: 94. But, he had hit a supply cap!
