Chapter 1: Jack Sun

Amidst pitch-black darkness, the sound of heavy footsteps echoed. As the steps gradually ceased, a sudden beam of light pierced through this darkness, emanating from a mobile phone.

The phone's glow illuminated a somewhat handsome face, worn with fatigue and distress.

"The fourth video recording begins, time is 3:51 PM," Jack Sun initiated the recording.

"I still haven't found an exit; everything here is surrounded by metal, even the floors and ceilings," Jack Sun reached out, feeling the peculiar texture of the nearby wall – cold, smooth, and solid.

Next, he pointed the phone's flashlight towards the metallic wall, capturing the impenetrable silvery gray as much as possible.

"These metal corridors form a massive maze, interconnecting to create this labyrinth of metal. There are numerous metal doors, most of which can't be opened. The freezer I crawled out of was in one of the rooms."

"I don't recognize this place; I've never seen anything like it before, not even online. I also can't find any information about this place here."

"I have no idea how I ended up here; my memory's fragmented, stopped in the summer after my college entrance exams."

"I remember everything before that—my family dog, my parents, every game I played—clear as day. But afterward... everything's just blank."

"Something must have happened afterwards for me to be stuffed into a freezer and sent to this place. But what exactly happened, I can't remember any of it!" Jack Sun's tone grew anxious. He paused, collected himself, and continued,

"The year shown on my phone is 2030. If that's accurate, I might have lost five whole years of memories."

"What happened during those five years? Where am I?"

Just then, a beep sounded, a notification displayed on the phone screen, "Low battery."

Jack Sun knew he couldn't waste any more time. Regardless of what happened before, he needed to escape first. Otherwise, everything that occurred earlier would become meaningless.

Jack Sun pursed his lips, mentally preparing himself, "I... I mentioned there were some metal doors on the walls, right? Oddly enough, some doors aren't just on the walls; they're on the ceiling and floor too. In one of these doors, I heard some movement, something unusual. I'm going to check it out."

After saying this, he slowly moved forward to the left while feeling the cold metal wall. After a minute, he stopped, lifted his head, and raised the phone to aim at the large, pitch-black door above him.

"Can you hear it? There's a beeping noise coming from the door on the ceiling, very faint, like it's coming from a faraway place."

"My phone's almost out of power; I'll go in first," Jack Sun exited recording mode.

Estimating the height, Jack Sun cautiously took a few steps back, then jumped with all his might, gripping the door frame with four fingers.

Ultimately, Jack Sun, using every ounce of strength, managed to crawl into the door.

As he stood on the door frame, shining his phone's light inside, he found an array of incomprehensible high-precision mechanical devices, many with their casings dismantled.

Odd mechanical arms protruded like branches from both walls, resembling a metallic forest. At the ends of the upper arms, another door appeared directly above Jack Sun's head, emitting the faint beeping noise.

"What exactly is this place? So creepy…" Jack Sun gingerly ascended using the mechanical arm.

Upon entering through this door, Jack Sun finally found the source of the faint beeping noise—a small red dot, blinking intermittently, resembling a standby signal from a computer.

As Jack Sun illuminated the area around the red dot with his phone's light, he discovered a curved room with only a few chairs scattered about.

Jack Sun initiated recording mode again, focusing on the red dot. "You see, this red dot appears to be a screen. I'll document everything that happens next on my phone. If, for some unknown reason, I lose my memory again, these recordings will be my—"

Just as Jack Sun started speaking, the slightly warm phone abruptly went dark, displaying the logo of his phone brand. "It ran out of battery at a critical moment! Damn it! What a useless piece of garbage!"

Annoyed, Jack Sun shoved the phone into the pocket of his left pant leg. He glared at the red dot in front of him, taking a deep breath. He knew he had no other option.

He feared that touching the red dot might lead to something terrible, yet he also feared touching it and nothing happening at all. It was his only choice; he had scoured everywhere else. If this red dot didn't trigger anything, he'd be trapped in this metallic maze forever.

After calming himself for a moment, Jack Sun held his breath and cautiously extended his finger towards the red dot.

As the red dot dimmed, merging with the surrounding darkness, Jack Sun's heart almost stopped. However, soon everything around him began to tremble, a resonating hum emanated from beneath his feet.

The sudden change in his surroundings heightened Jack Sun's anxiety. He kept a vigilant eye on the pitch-black surroundings, nervously watching for any potential changes.

Yet, there was no visible change in the surroundings. The initial change occurred on himself; as he pressed the red button, his feet gradually lifted off the ground until he was hovering in the air!

This peculiar change astounded Jack Sun. What kind of world was he in? "I can fly? I can fly? Magic? Superpowers?"

But before Jack Sun could even revel in the thought, accompanied by a dull thud, a crack split open in the front wall of the arched room he was in, blindingly bright light seeped through the gap, illuminating everything inside.

Once Jack Sun managed to adjust to the intense light, he saw the arched wall sliding back on either side, revealing an enormous celestial body occupying his entire field of view.

Jack Sun felt his heart pounding fiercely, his throat constricted, each breath suffocating him.

A celestial body, a concept so ordinary, only when it truly appeared before his eyes could he sense the weighty gravity of the term.

The star's light illuminated one side of the celestial body, while the other side remained shrouded in darkness like a gaping abyss, instilling in Jack Sun a shiver akin to being stared at by a colossal cosmic creature.

Suddenly, Jack Sun remembered something. He looked down at his floating feet, then gazed up at the colossal celestial body outside the glass.

"I'm... I've been in outer space all along?!"
