Chu Feng was awakened by a ringing doorbell in the middle of his sleep. Even if he didn't want to get up to open the door, it was unpleasant to be awakened while sleeping.
He got up to open the door and saw it was her sister Chu Rou1 who came. Her face was pale, without any makeup, her eyes red and swollen. Obviously, she just cried.
“Who bullied you?” Chu Feng frowned and pulled her sister standing in front of the door. He and Chu Rou had a very good relationship since they were young. He couldn't bear to see her sister being bullied the least bit. Chu Rou was as gentle and sensible as her name and cared about her brother very much.
Chu Rou looked at Chu Feng with red eyes, and said hoarsely, “Rong Xun committed suicide.”
Rong Xun2… This familiar and somewhat unfamiliar name to Chu Feng made him unresponsive for a moment. It was as if a distant memory was torn apart, and the two words 'Rong Xun' were torn out from it, with a faint pain but the feeling of strangeness still existed.
Seeing Chu Feng's reaction, Chu Rou lost her usual easy-goingness. She grabbed the collar of Chu Feng's pajamas with both hands, and her eyes instantly filled with water, “Chu Feng, you bastard! Did you forget him?! Did you forget Rong Xun?!”
Chu Rou’s tears fell on Chu Feng’s hands, and the warm temperature made Chu Feng feel that it didn’t seem to be warm, but hot—he really forgot Rong Xun. If Chu Rou didn't mention Rong Xun, maybe he wouldn't ever have thought of this name or this person in his life…
Chu Rou went out of control, madly shook Chu Feng and cried out, “You return Rong Xun! You return Rong Xun to me! He promised to live… he promised…”
Being madly shaken by her sister, Chu Feng was flustered and didn't know how to react for a while.
Chu Rou’s shaking turned into beating and her tears flowed faster, “In the past 10 years, you lived a glamorous life. What about him? He was like a gopher who dared not see the light, he was tortured by depression for ten years. Chu Feng, what you owe him, you can't afford to pay for it for the rest of your life…”
Depression, the word nailed into his heart like a knife—depression was not a terminal illness, but it could be fatal.
“Did you know, he had always liked you… has always liked you, but what did you do to him? Chu Feng, you are a scumbag! Why are you alive while Rong Xun is dead?! Why?! Why?…” Chu Rou couldn't say anything anymore and she slid down on the ground, wailing hysterically.
Chu Feng felt numbness spread from his fingertips, as if blood had stopped flowing. The sad atmosphere spread into the whole house like a tide, so drenched3 that it can never seem to be dried by the sun. Rong Xun’s crying face was dug out from his memory, so real and so clear…
Every school would have more or less a few bad boy4 type students, and when campus bullying wasn't so much valued, these people became the main force of bullying incidents. Sometimes they didn't even need any reason, just because the other person was not pleasing to the eye, they could beat the other person.
Chu Feng was one of the bad boys of their high school at the time and was the boss. It was reasonable to say that high school should be a time to study hard but not all high schools had this kind of atmosphere. Especially in boarding high schools, at the age when the eighth-grade syndrome5 and rebellious period were in full swing, a group of rich and official second-generation who didn't have good grades and didn't like to learn were mixed together, and they became the top one in making trouble in the school. Every day, bullying this and provoking that… This was the high school life of Chu Feng and his “buddies”.
Rong Xun was a very delicate6 boy. Boys who grew up to be so handsome and good-looking were very few in his high school. In addition, he had good academic performance and was kind to people, so he was very popular with girls in class.
When the third year of high school just started, somehow, a rumor circulated that Rong Xun was homosexual. When the rumor first began to circulate, girls didn't care about it but boys were a little repulsive about it. As a result, so many boys began to walk around Rong Xun, as if they were afraid that they would have something to do with him and be regarded as the same kind. For a time, Rong Xun was outcasted.
It was Friday that day and most of the students went home after school. Chu Feng had a bad relationship with his father. He just started arguing on the phone about his grades and he was upset. When he came back from playing basketball, he was about to return to the classroom to take his school bag back to the dorm when he heard a sound from the stairwell of the side door. There was a burst of scolding and ridicule.
Chu Feng raised his eyebrows. He couldn't be more familiar with this voice—Gui Heng, his friend who grew up with him.
Listening to the voice of Gui Heng, he didn't know which classmate his friend was tossing. Chu Feng was already in a bad mood and the noise made him feel more upset and irritable, so he walked up the three steps in two steps7.
This chapter is divided into two parts. I am just moving the chapters 1-8 from my blog to here in otakutl.
The order of chapters in NU will be in a mess, but it's okay. It's almost the same.
