Chapter 10 Part 2

Chu Xiaoyi knew that he had made a mistake. He only hoped that Chu Xiaoxiao didn't hear clearly, and rushed to cover up by saying casually: "I don't exercise enough yet. I will run two more laps with the ball and then go back!"
Chu Xiaoyi shifted the topic and ran away pretending to have nothing to do to break the brief deadlock. He didn't dare to look back at all, lest he ran into Chu Jiadong's cautious eyes.
Under the dim light of the streetlamp, the father and daughter watched Chu Xiaoyi running away, and fell into silence for a moment. After a while, Chu Xiaoxiao first raised her head. She looked at her quiet father and asked: "Daddy, have you beaten Brother before?"
The little daughter's eyes were like bright gems, trembling with gleaming light, with a trace of hesitation and expectation coming out of her eyes. As if she hoped he would deny it.
Chu Jiadong smiled bitterly and confessed: "Yes."
Chu Xiaoxiao originally thought that Chu Xiaoyi made a slip of the tongue, but her kind father actually admitted it. She stared incredulously, and said in surprise: "Why!?"
In Chu Xiaoxiao's eyes, except for certain special professions and extreme cases, it was unjust for anyone to inflict violence on others. She couldn't understand at all why her father had to beat her brother, especially when they obviously belonged to the same family. How could they still be rough?
Chu Xiaoxiao was quite hurt, and she looked at her father with disappointment, showing a rather disapproving look.
Chu Jiadong could only squat down to communicate with his little daughter at eye level. He resignedly said: "Because when your brother was born, Daddy was also a father for the first time, so I did a lot of wrong things..."
Chu Xiaoxiao asked in surprise, "Did Daddy's father not teach you how to be a father?" Chu Xiaoxiao had never seen her grandfather. When she was born, she had only grandma in her home.
Chu Jiadong smiled bitterly: "The method Grandpa taught Daddy before is probably not applicable to Brother."
Chu Jiadong really couldn’t explain to his youngest daughter that his father beat himself up even harder. In the era of "filial son under the stick", no one would think that adults couldn't beat children. He understood his father's painstaking efforts towards him now, but if he was, to tell the truth, he might only discredit Chu Xiaoxiao's impression of her grandfather.
Chu Xiaoxiao wrapped her arms around her chest as she heard her father's faults and bitterly analyzed them for him, "Then you really did make a big mistake. Did you apologize to Brother?"
Chu Xiaoxiao felt that the cheap brother was really mischievous and hopeless. But Daddy had gone too far in beating Brother. This time, he made a mistake.
Chu Jiadong: "Yes, but Xiao Xiao also needs to understand that apology and forgiveness are two different things, and not every apology can be accepted."
Chu Xiaoxiao's little face was confused, and she seemed to be trying to understand her father's words.
Chu Jiadong said in harmony: "So Xiao Xiao don't blame or hate Brother. Because of his existence, Daddy could be more experienced and get along with Xiao Xiao on an equal footing; because of Xiao Xiao’s existence, Daddy also began to understand Brother's thoughts, knowing how wrong I was."
"You are all indispensable treasures for Daddy, but Daddy will never be a perfect father. Thus, I can only strive to be better and better Daddy for you guys."
Chu Jiadong had a falling out with his eldest son. Due to that, he carefully avoided many mistakes when he was bringing up his daughter. The youngest had shown talent since she was a child, and she always expounded her opinions freely, which made Chu Jiadong feel more guilty when facing his son.
Chu Xiaoxiao was a smart child, even better than an adult, and she never felt that she was different from her elders. But Chu Xiaoyi used to be an ordinary child who couldn’t prove anything in the short term. So he probably had a hard time dealing with the pressure, right?
Once Chu Xiaoxiao felt dissatisfied, she would refute it by quoting the chapter and verse. Nevertheless, when Chu Xiaoyi was still a child who couldn’t decide by himself, could only swallow everything in silence and grievance.
As an adult, Chu Jiadong was unable to refute his smart little daughter. But from this, he truly felt that he was indeed too harsh on his son. Chu Xiaoxiao had never used her extraordinary talents to oppress the family. Rather, he had used the power of an adult to suppress the young Chu Xiaoyi.
Chu Xiaoxiao didn't understand why things were so complicated, and she couldn't think of an idea for a while, so she could only follow her father home first.
At home, Chu Xiaoxiao held the iPad absent-mindedly. She thought about the affairs of her father and brother and sighed helplessly.
Granduncle next to her noticed her being distracted and said, "Xiao Xiao, if you don't want to see the pig, don't look at it. Come and eat fruit with Granduncle!"
Granduncle was cutting oranges and dividing them into small juicy pieces. Chu Xiaoxiao nestled at the table and watched, suddenly said: "Granduncle, did your father beat you?"
Granduncle who knew nothing regarding her troubles casually replied: "Yes."
Chu Xiaoxiao was shocked. Little did she know that Granduncle had also been beaten, and hurriedly said: "Why would he beat you?"
Granduncle used to live in the countryside during his childhood. He was dumbfounded by the question at this time. For a long time, he didn't respond: "No, why? I was so hungry once that I stole dried radishes dried by a neighbor and was beaten by your ancestor?"
In fact, Granduncle couldn’t explain the reason. He had been beaten so many times before and only remembered part of the reason for being beaten.
Chu Xiaoxiao said in surprise: "Why didn’t he reason with you?"
"Children sometimes have no memory if they don't be beaten. Besides, it's not a big deal for an old one to beat a young one!" Granduncle’s tone was quite casual. After all, he was now an old man in his sixties, who would care about the beatings he suffered in his childhood.
Chu Xiaoxiao immediately sat down and complained."Of course, it's a big deal. Why can you guys hit the little ones?"
Chu Xiaoxiao: As the youngest in the family, I would be the first to object!
Granduncle hurriedly said: "Xiao Xiao is so sensible, you will definitely not be beaten. People who are not sensible will be beaten..."
Chu Xiaoxiao argued for reasons: "This is not right. Grandma is not sensible now, so she can't be beaten either!"
Granduncle: "..." It seemed to make sense?
Granduncle didn't understand why cutting oranges gradually emerged as the problem of the century. He just wanted to simply eat fruits instead and was confusedly involved. He and the cub of the family talked earnestly about the issue for a long time and he was unable to explain why "It's okay for ancestors to beat Granduncle", but "Granduncle beats Xiao Xiao is a problem,". For a moment, he was dizzy by the philosophical talks.
Facing the repeated questioning of the little thing, Granduncle had to ask for outside help and humbly called his wife: "Chun'er, Chun'er, come and explain this to Xiao Xiao. I don't understand it anymore..."

That was a bit funny lol. But I like how he didn't just brush it off but rather at least asked someone else to explain. Children remembers these things and it's more true for someone like Xiaoxiao.
