Chapter 16: DemiDevimon Wants to Rule the Sky
Ripples of dark ink spread outward, expanding in circles.
In the blink of an eye, the entire magic card was dyed in a thick, dark golden hue!
Once the dark gold on the magic card became even and smooth, Dark immediately picked up a magical pen, following what he learned from Magic Theory, and began drawing the No. 7 crafting magic circle on the front of the card.
This was a simple method for creating emotion-based magic cards, which could produce emotions like “sadness,” “joy,” “anger,” and more.
Using such magic cards would allow a person to experience the corresponding emotion.
Among them, the Card of Happiness was the most popular with the upper class.
After a busy day, the nobles would sit down and absorb the effects of a Card of Happiness, clearing away their worries and preparing themselves to face another day of—busyness.
In duels, skilled magisters made clever use of emotion-based magic cards to stir up their own or their opponent's magical spirit's emotions, boosting their own spirit’s combat power or causing the opponent’s spirit to falter.
Since the method to craft emotion-based magic cards was quite simple, it became the first learning goal for new students in their first month.
Dark was the fastest and steadiest in the class at drawing crafting magic circles, even earning the nickname "Hand of the Eagle" for a time.
The magical pen, a hollow instrument mimicking the structure of blood vessels, was an essential tool.
Mercury flowed through the pen’s veins, guiding magical energy to the tip, allowing magisters to gather and refine magic more easily and to draw finer lines.
Although experienced magisters could perform the same tasks without a magical pen, using one still helped reduce mental strain and increase efficiency.
Naturally, a beginner like Dark couldn't do without the pen for now.
The crafting of the magic circle had to be fast, steady, and precise.
Dark completed the drawing of the No. 7 crafting magic circle in just seven seconds, finishing with a closing stroke that formed a complete circuit.
As soon as the circle was finished, a brilliant white light exploded from the card!
But the light quickly shifted, turning into the dark gold hue of the magic card itself.
Dark stared intently at the magic card.
The final stage of crafting a magic card was like putting all the ingredients into a pot and letting them simmer. Until the lid was lifted, no one knew what the result would be.
In the initiation ceremony for new students, this was the final step they completed.
However, the sorting card had been adjusted to automatically begin the crafting process with just a simple infusion of magic energy.
But this magic card in front of him was the very first one Dark had made with his own hands!
Its success held extraordinary meaning. It also represented Dark’s discovery of a way to transform the seven deadly sins into a source of power.
The essence of magic was imagination.
Whether it was knowledge, emotion, thought, or creativity, all of these were sources of power in the realm of magic.
So, the seven deadly sins could surely be transformed into power!
----
A few seconds later, the crafting magic circle seeped into the card, penetrating through to the back, fusing the materials and magic together.
When the clear circuit of the No. 7 crafting magic circle appeared on the back of the card, the crafting was considered complete!
Next came the inspection phase.
Even standard magic cards crafted according to established procedures could produce varying effects due to a variety of factors.
Not to mention, this magic card was Dark’s personal creation.
He needed to conduct a small experiment.
And naturally, the test subject wouldn’t be himself.
Dark’s gaze shifted, finally settling on DemiDevimon, who was perched on a bird stand on the ceiling, mimicking an owl.
He smiled kindly.
---
Although a familiar spirit could only be considered a simulated life form, it still possessed intelligence, emotions, and self-awareness.
As such, it could be affected by emotion-based magic cards.
Dark beckoned to DemiDevimon.
DemiDevimon tilted its head, then spread its wings and flew down.
Dark placed the Pride magic card on the other side of the desk, then pulled out a bird chain from the drawer, opened the clasp, and fastened it around DemiDevimon’s left ankle.
The room’s windows were closed, and the curtains were tightly drawn.
—A perfect sealed space.
After being chained, DemiDevimon couldn’t help but show a small, pitiful expression (,,•́.•̀,,).
Dark observed for a moment and wrote down the time in his notebook.
“3:29 PM. Let’s wait another minute.”
At exactly 3:30 PM, Dark declared, “My turn, magic summoning!”
He held the Pride magic card between his index and middle fingers and activated Summoning Magic!
In an instant, the magic card activated!
A layer of black light flickered across the card’s surface, and a dark golden orb with a long tail suddenly shot out from the magic card, wobbling as it flew into DemiDevimon’s head.
In that moment, both Dark and DemiDevimon squinted their eyes.
Time seemed to stand still, and the room was so quiet that one could hear a pin drop.
DemiDevimon was the first to open its eyes, and dark golden light gleamed from the corners of its eyes.
Its mouth curled into a smirk, its gaze sharp, its chin slightly raised as it spoke: "I, DemiDevimon, will rule the sky!"

---
Dark was stunned for a moment, then overwhelmed with joy!
Whether DemiDevimon had become arrogant due to the influence of the Pride magic card no longer seemed important.
The crucial thing was—it could speak!
It was well known that Digimon could talk.
But the birth of a familiar spirit and a Digimon was not the same.
At least, this DemiDevimon originally couldn’t speak, and its intelligence was slightly below that of ordinary beasts.
Now, however, it had absorbed the energy of Pride and was speaking fluently!
“Could this mean its form of life has changed, bringing it closer to that of a Digimon?
“Professor Silver once said that the birth of a familiar spirit is closely related to the magister’s magic energy, knowledge, and personality.
“Perhaps the familiar spirit I summoned isn’t even the same kind of being as the DemiDevimon that exists in this world.
“The greatest magister in history, Merlin, once said that differing perceptions lead to different magics!
“Moreover…”
Dark glanced at the Pride magic card in his hand.
Fine cracks had appeared on the card’s surface!
Emotion-based magic cards were typically reusable.
It seemed that this magic card had surpassed the category of mere “emotion” and had become a one-time-use card.
Dark thought of a word—Demonization!
In this world, the so-called magic beasts were creatures that had lost their sanity after undergoing demonization, turning into frenzied monsters!
DemiDevimon’s current state seemed more like a form of “Pride Demonization.”
He pondered for a moment and decided to label this kind of magic card as Pride I.
He then recorded the corresponding effects in his notebook.
Next, he prepared to observe how long it would take for this Pride Demonized DemiDevimon to return to normal.
