Chapter 09 — Goals Although it was a bit difficult, he still has time.

______________________________

The students who came back from the break were surprised to see Rong Xun and Chu Feng sitting together. But since the two people are at the same table, the headteacher must have agreed, so there was no room for them to say anything. Some girls couldn't help but sympathize with Rong Xun. After all, Chu Feng is not easy to provoke. Rong Xun has such rumours. What if one day, Chu Feng saw Rong Xun unsightly and beat him up? However, what they didn't know is that Chu Feng himself requested the change of seat.

And about the injury on Rong Xun's face, although they were surprised, they didn't ask much about it.

Soon the third class in the morning began. Rong Xun took out his books and listened carefully to the class lesson.

At this time, Chu Feng would usually either look out of the window, swipe his phone or sleep on his desk. Unexpectedly, he didn't wander off or slack off but took out his books and listened carefully to the class lesson with Rong Xun.

The English teacher looked over at Chu Feng several times to confirm that he wasn't sleeping and wasn't distracted—this was a rarity.

Chu Feng also felt helpless for the impressions he made to the teacher in high school, but he had to bear the consequences of his actions. Luckily, this time he was reborn and had the opportunity to start afresh.

When the liberal arts and science classes were divided, he thought it didn't matter which one he went to, as the result would be the same anyway. Si Xian chose liberal arts, so he followed suit. Gui Heng also saw that they both chose liberal arts. He followed suit without hesitation.

He hardly remembered anything of what he had learned back then, and felt that he had to learn it all from scratch. After all, he spent several years abroad and being an actor, he couldn't leave English behind, so it was only English classes he could understand.

At this time, Rong Xun's attention was focused on the blackboard. Seeing a serious face on Rong Xun, the corners of Chu Feng's mouth also softened a bit, his heart also calmed down a lot, and he unknowingly listened to the lesson.

After the morning class, Chu Feng took Rong Xun to the small canteen for a meal. The main canteen and the small canteen are in two opposite directions, but the distance is about the same. The food in the small canteen was a little more elaborate and finely cooked but of course, the price was more expensive. During his high school days, Chu Feng had always eaten in the small canteen. Back then, it was just because it was relatively less crowded and could be quieter. Now, he just wanted to let Rong Xun eat better so he would have the energy to continue his studies in the afternoon.

It was the first time Rong Xun came to the small canteen to eat. For a moment, he didn't know what to eat. The food in the main canteen will be served to you after ordering while the small canteen is already served, each plate is very delicate, so you can take whatever you like and then go to checkout.

“Take what you like, but it needs to be lighter.” Chu Feng said as he followed behind Rong Xun, carrying his meal tray.

“I can eat anything. You choose.” Rong Xun whispered. From the time the rumour about him came out until now, no one had been willing to eat with him for quite a long time. Now that Chu Feng was with him, it always made his eyes feel a little sour, but he felt warm in his heart.

“Then you go serve the soup, and I'll get the food.” Chu Feng smiled and said, “Be careful, don't burn yourself.”

Rong Xun simply nodded. The soup is served for free, so you can take it up at will.

By the time Rong Xun got the soup, Gui Heng and Si Xian had already found a place to sit down.

“Rong Xun, this way.” Si Xian called out to him.

Rong Xun carried the soup as he walked over.

Just then, several people noisily walked inside the small canteen. Rong Xun looked up subconsciously, and his hands trembled—those people were the same people who had bullied him together on that day.

Gui Heng frowned. Usually, those people rarely come to the cafeteria, he was a bit embarrassed to be here today. After all, he bullied Rong Xun together with those people but Rong Xun didn't say anything after moving into their dormitory and with Chu Feng covering for him, Gui Heng didn't mention the matter again. He didn't like Rong Xun and as long as he didn't trouble him, he didn't care. However, encountering these people again, the incident on Friday is tantamount to being put back on the surface.

The boys also saw Gui Heng and were just about to come over to say hello when they noticed Rong Xun at the table. There were only two bowls of soup in front of Rong Xun, and it looked like they were for Gui Heng and Si Xian.

A few people looked at each other then they walked over with a smile.

Yu Zhiming: “Yo, Gui Heng, isn't this the little pervert? What? Came to work for you as a servant?”

Pang Xuan: "Brother Heng, be careful, don't get involved with him."

Yu Zhiming waved his hand to Rong Xun and said, “Hurry up and get lost, isn’t this3 affecting Brother Heng's meal? If I see you again, I will beat you up, believe it or not?”

Rong Xun lowered his head and stood there a little awkwardly, feeling a little uncomfortable. However, he also knew that whether it was in primary school or high school, there would always be a few fastidious brats like this. It was just that he was never bullied or threatened before.

Gui Heng was also a bit embarrassed. Rong Xun was a person covered by Chu Feng. Given his relationship with Chu Feng, as long as Chu Feng said one word, he would stop hanging out with these people. But in the past two years of high school whenever there was a fight, these people had fought alongside him. He thought it wasn’t worth it to break up relations with these brothers for Rong Xun’s sake.

Si Xian's face was cold. These people's words made him very angry. He had heard rumours that Rong Xun was a homosexual, but sexual orientation was a matter of personal freedom, no one was qualified to criticize it. Moreover, whether the rumour was true or not, this kind of brainless presumption is too stupid.

“Get out of here!” Pang Xuan said.

“Who’s going where?” Chu Feng, who had returned from taking things, asked in a cold voice as he stood behind him.

Chu Feng's expression was a bit scary. His eyes were very cold, it seems like if these people dared to say a word, he would put a plate of things directly on the other's face. The feeling that Chu Feng gave off now was completely different from before. Before, when Chu Feng was angry, at most he could only fight and vent. But now it felt like he would kill the other person or like the silent type that made a person's scalp numb.

Pang Xuan saw Chu Feng and he immediately smiled, “Brother Feng, I am not talking about you, I am talking about Rong Xun.”

They weren't in the same class as Chu Feng, so they had no idea what was going on right now.

Putting down the tray in his hand, Chu Feng pulled Rong Xun and pressed him into a chair, and whispered, “Eat first.” After saying that, he looked at these boys and said, “Even if the matter on Friday is exposed, don't mention it to anyone in the future. Rong Xun is now my friend, don't bully him in the future.”

Several people looked at each other with bewildered faces. Then in unison, they turned their eyes to Gui Heng, hoping he could explain. Unlike Chu Feng, Gui Heng was different, they would still dare to speak against him and ask him what this meant, but for Chu Feng, they could only listen honestly. After all, if they fall out and fight, they have little chance of winning.

Gui Heng hinted with his eyes for them to leave first and talk later. Several people saw this situation, they didn’t ask more questions and left angrily. The person they had previously bullied became a celebrity next to the boss within a few days. It was hard to accept for anyone, except for Gui Heng. He always protects Chu Feng's shortcomings. He always protected Chu Feng's shortcomings. He often helped his relatives but wouldn't help tidy up. Chu Feng likes to hang out with Rong Xun. He naturally loves the house and its crow and wouldn’t say anything bad about Rong Xun.

After a few people left, Chu Feng sat next to Rong Xun, but his face was still not good.

Chu Feng protected him and Rong Xun was very happy, but he didn't want to make Chu Feng upset because of his affairs, so he curried favour by putting a fried squid ring into his bowl and whispered, “This is delicious.”

Chu Feng looked at Rong Xun's appearance, his angry mood just now instantly dissipated, smiled and said, "This is for me, you can only eat one." It was better to wait for Rong Xun to recuperate before eating anything fried.

“I won't eat, you eat.” Rong Xun said as he held his mung bean porridge.

"It's okay to eat a little bit." Chu Feng picked one for him, but he didn't give the rest for him to eat.

“En.” Rong Xun nodded with a smile, lowered his head and began to eat.

Gui Heng saw that Chu Feng, who was obviously in a bad mood just now, quickly was in a good mood, and he believed that Rong Xun could help Chu Feng get rid of his irritable mood. However, it seems Rong Xun didn't say anything, he simply picked a dish for Chu Feng…

After the meal, Gui Heng and Si Xian went to the supermarket to buy something. After all, studying for so long in class tended to make you hungry fast. The students who didn’t want to be uncomfortable because of hunger would buy something to take back to the classroom at noon. If they were hungry, they could pad their stomach between classes.

Rong Xun didn’t have the habit of eating between classes. He seldom bought anything to save money.

So when Chu Feng asked him, he just shook his head. Chu Feng let Si Xian and Gui Heng buy and bring

him some. Anyway, they knew his taste and would never buy the wrong one.

Chu Feng accompanied Rong Xun back to the classroom first. Many of his classmates chose to lie down at the table and sleep for a while after the meal, so the classroom was very quiet, only the occasional sound of books being flipped through.

It has been a long time since Chu Feng had listened so carefully to a lecture, it was inevitable that he couldn't adapt. He always felt a headache, so he took advantage of the lunch break, lay down on the table to take a nap so he could continue to listen to the lecture in the afternoon. Rong Xun didn't have the habit of taking a nap, so after Chu Feng lay down on the table, he took out a small notebook and started writing on it. The silence in the classroom made it easy for him to meditate on his thoughts and take his time to write.

Although Chu Feng was a little tired, he didn't fall asleep. He hadn't slept like this for a long time, so he felt a little uncomfortable for a while. He closed his eyes for a while but couldn't sleep. Chu Feng didn't intend to make things difficult for himself, so he turned his head to look at Rong Xun.

Rong Xun was still writing with his head down, not even noticing that Chu Feng wasn't asleep.

Chu Feng watched Rong Xun frown and smile for a while. Chu Feng seemed to see Rong Xun's rich world through his expression. Chu Feng sat up and looked at what Rong Xun was writing. Rong Xun's attention was on the notebook, completely immersed in his world.

Rong Xun wrote a short story or rather a short novel. A very heartwarming love story but written from a male point of view. It was different from the common female point of view nowadays, making it a bit of a novelty.

After he wrote a paragraph, Rong Xun began to mull over the next paragraph, it was only then he noticed that Chu Feng had already sat up.

“Not sleeping anymore?” Rong Xun asked gently.

“Can't sleep.” Chu Feng smiled and asked, “What are you writing?” He didn't want Rong Xun to know that he was looking just now.

“It's nothing, just writing casually.” Rong Xun didn't show Chu Feng what he had written. It seemed like he didn't want Chu Feng to see it.

“Do you want to submit it for publication?” Chu Feng asked. There are many magazines suitable for their age, most of them focused on romance. If Rong Xun liked to write, it would be a good choice to submit.

“En.” Rong Xun smiled and nodded, he didn't hide it, “I will go to the computer room10 at the weekend, type it all and then send an email.”

Chu Feng frowned slightly. It would cost Rong Xun to go to the computer room, but Rong Xun doesn't seem to have a computer. It was normal to go to the computer room to type. When he thought about this, Chu Feng had an idea. But instead of mentioning it directly, he asked: "Do you like writing?"

“Well, it's very interesting.” When Chu Feng talked to him, he closed the notebook and didn't continue writing.

“Do you want to study writing-related majors in the future?” Chu Feng asked.

“I have this plan, but I still have to look at the results of the college entrance examination at that time.” He was more interested in studying a major related to literature.

Chu Feng asked, "Which university do you want to go to? Local or another city? Do you have a goal in mind?”

Rong Xun smiled and said, “Local, I want to take the A University.”

A University is one of the best universities in the city, a comprehensive university which specializes in many majors. It had a good campus location and environment, so it was indeed a good choice.

Chu Feng thought for a while, nodded and said, “Then we will test for A University.” Since Rong Xun’s goal is to go to A University then his goal is to catch up with Rong Xun and accompany him to test for A University. Although it was a bit difficult, he still has time.

The author has something to say:

Chu Xiaofeng, do your best!

Translator's Notes:

subconsciously — 不经意, defines as not paying attention, carelessly or by accident. I don’t want to use the exact definition since it’s weird. I thought it would make sense if someone looked up subconsciously and not carelessly, accidentally, suddenly?

pervert — 变态, meaning metamorphosis; modification; transfiguration; abnormal; pervert(slang). In this sentence, it's slang for pervert.

isn’t this — 这不是, this 这 means this; these while 不是 means no; not; isn’t. I can’t make sense of this one. He was talking to Rong Xun so it should be aren’t you but I’m too stupid idk.

fastidious brats — 刺儿头, faultfinder; a fastidious person. I used brats instead of person or people.

brainless presumptions — 不用脑子的武断 in MTL is no-brainer arbitrariness. 不用, means need not. 脑子 means brain or mind. 武断 means assertive;arbitrary; subjective; dogmatic. I used presumption instead of subjective or other words for 武断 so I can connect it to the first sentence, “whether the rumour was true or not”. I thought it would make sense like this?

speak against — 呛, colloquial for: to shout at, to scold or to speak out against. There are other meanings of it but I won’t put it here as it’s unnecessary.

hang out — In MTL, it translated as “play” and that made me laugh. That’s a bad word choice so I used hang out instead.

tidy up — 理, to manage; to pay attention to; to run (affairs); to handle; to put in order; to tidy up.

love the house and its crow — 爱屋及乌, meant “The love for the house extends even to the crows perching on its roof.” or “If you do love someone, you will love people and things relative to him as well.” For more information, you can check this or this.

computer room — this is the same as an internet cafe.

Regarding the Author's Note, it says jiayou which means refuel or to cheer someone. I just kept the MTL since this is an English translation.
