Chapter 24 He is Staying (Part 1/3)
On the
way back, Ling Qiyang said, "My guess was right. Fifth Brother doesn't
seem to know that he's infected."
"Right.
The man came from his manor. He deserves it." Jun Lixuan smirked as the
image of the limping Fifth Prince surfaced in his mind again.
"Fifth
Brother is ambitious." Ling Qiyang smiled. If it were not for ambition, he
would be avoiding Parasite Masters like the plague.
"He's
relying on Imperial Noble Consort's favour with Emperor Father. Imperial Noble
Consort's maternal family is also very influential. Coupled with His Mother
Concubine's favour, it is natural that he is coveting the throne. Ambition is
good. But sometimes, overly strong dreams can end up digging your own
grave." Jun Lixuan's hand gripped on Ling Qiyang even more tightly.
As he
listened, Ling Qiyang did not ask if his husband was interested in the throne.
More importantly, the answer did not make much of a difference to him. No
matter what Jun Lixuan's choice was, he would help him.
"It
doesn't matter what happens Fifth Brother. I'm just afraid that the Parasite
Master will cause trouble for you and put you in danger." Last time, it was
Jun Liyuan. Who knew, Jun Lixuan would be in trouble the next time?
"Since
we already have a target, we just need to keep a close eye on him. As long as
we take more precautions, his petty tricks can't hurt us." Jun Lixuan saw
the issue more straightforwardly. His heart overflowed with disdain as he
spoke. As long as the Parasite Master stayed close to Jun Chengxi and did not
cause any more trouble to him, he had no intentions of interfering.
When
they returned to Serene Palace, Jun Liyuan had arrived. Seeing that the Emperor
had yet to reach, Ling Qiyang took Mo Yu'er for a bath, lest it was dirty and
annoying. After sunset, Emperor Yanxi also arrived at Serene Palace. As the
sumptuous dishes were served course by course, the family chatted and drank euphorically.
All of their expressions softened with joyous smiles as they basked in the
warmth of family and celebrated the triumphant return of Jun Liche.
After
the four people bid farewell to the Empress, they walked out of Serene Palace
together. Only then, Jun Lixuan recounted the happenings at the Royal Garden to
his brothers. Jun Liche's original plan to try and sneak Mo Yu'er in front of
the Fifth Prince was unexpectedly saved. Who knew that the Fifth Prince would
show up for a test himself?
With
the conclusion in mind, Jun Liyuan and Jun Liche's ideas were similar to Jun
Lixuan's. They did not say much and did not plan to do much. All they had to do
was watch as the Fifth Prince committed "suicide". Even if Jun
Chengxi luckily escaped, things would just return to square one. Its was
unimaginable that his solo effort could single-handedly threaten the three of
them.
A few
days later, another wave of rage crashed onto His Royal Highness Yi Manor. Jun
Liyuan was raging with fury as he heard Jun Liche describe the news of how Mo
Qingge was injured. Jun Lixuan, called over by Jun Liche since he would find
out sooner or later, also fell into a deafening silence. During his report, Jun
Liche was careful to avoid being heard by Mo Qingge. He feared that Mo Qingge
would be unhappy with Jun Liyuan probing into his personal affairs.
"Count
Gonglian sent someone to Tranquility Pavillion that day to hire a performer. He
said that his son was throwing a banquet the next day for his friends and
wanted entertainment. However, the performer that was hired fell sick that
night and was not be able to perform. Tranquillity Pallivion did not want to
turn down the job for fear of offending Count Gonglian and had to let Mo Qingge
go in the performer's place." Jun Liche iterated his findings with care.
Mo
Qingge's talents were renowned and had much more fame than the previous
performer. With him as a replacement, they were confident that the Count would
not be offended. Initially, Mo Qingge never left Tranquility Pavilion. Alas, to
quell this matter, he proceeded with the plan on the Pavilion Master's
insistence.
When
they spoke of Luo Dingsheng, the son of Count Gonglian, Jun Lixuan and Jun
Liyuan's faces blackened with a scowl. It was not that they were on bad terms
or had a feud. However, Count Gonglian was the Fourth Prince's maternal family.
In other words, Luo Dingsheng was the cousin of the Fourth Prince. Although Jun
Chengyan was raised by the Imperial Noble Consort over the years, he has never
broken his relationship with Count Gonglian. Similarly, Count Gonglian also
used the Fourth Prince to cling on Fifth Prince and the Imperial Noble
Consort's influence.
"After
Mo Qingge went, the event went smoothly. However, things went wary after the
banquet. Luo Dingsheng tried to get intimate with Mo Qingge and even offered to
pay his debts and bring him into the mansion. Naturally, Mo Qingge refused.
Alas, Luo Dingsheng was tenacious. He feigned that they lost something precious
in the mansion. As an outsider, Mo Qingge was under suspicion. With that
excuse, Mo Qingge was held in the mansion for the night." Jun Liche
paused, looked at Jun Liyuan's face. Sensing the cold silence, he continued,
"Tranquility Pavilion did send someone to pick him up, but he was sent
away by Count Gonglian's attendants. Mo Qingge was locked in a separate room
and was safe for a short while. However,
Luo Dingsheng waited for his concubine to fall asleep and slipped into
Mo Qingge's room in the dead of night. He assaulted Mo Qingge with openly
lecherous intentions. As he fended for himself, the latter injured Luo
Dingsheng."
A shade
of red slowly saturated on Jun Liyuna's face as he clenched his hands on the
table. He never took Count Gonglian's family seriously, and he never expected
them to get on his nerves.
