Chapter 23 Ignorance (Part 2/3)

"You are not calling it?" Jun Lixuan watched Ling Qiyang walk slowly, without making a sound.

"It will come out when it catches our scent. That little thing is clever."

"I guess so."

Sure enough, after a short while, a familiar meow came from a distance. Looking over, Ling Qiyang saw Mo Yu'er standing majestically on the artificial hill. With his eyes darting across the comparatively large garden, the cat was "roaring" adorably. Its black fur was coated in sand and soil as if he had been through several battles in god knows where. Smelling Ling Qiyang's scent, Mo Yu'er's head whipped over excitedly. It was about to pounce over, but the hill was a significant distance away. With its tiny legs and petite size, Mo Yu'er could not make that leap. It paced the edge of the hill anxiously, looking over at the two with pleading eyes. Fortunately, Jun Lixuan was apt in martial arts. With a light tap of his feet, he jumped over and back with the little furry creature in his arms.

Perhaps Mo Yu'er knew Jun Lixuan saved him from his perilous situation, he purred twice affectionately in thanks. Immediately afterwards, he leapt into Ling Qiyang's warm embrace.

Without care of the creature's dirty fur, Ling Qiyang took it into his arms. Gently, he rubbed on its head and chuckled, "Just where did you run off to? How did you get so dirty?"

Unfortunately, Mo Yu'er had no clue he was getting lectured. It snuggled its head against Ling Qiyang dearly. As he watched the mud rub onto Ling Qiyang's clothes, Jun Lixuan could feel the urge to peel this horrid animal off his consort.

"Other cats like to stay in the house when it's cold. Why does this cat like to run outside?"

Ling Qiyang smiled and said," Mo Yu'er is not afraid of the cold. When I was in the mansion, my father and I always kept him indoors. Now the palace is bigger and more enjoyable. Naturally, he is going wild."

"Fortunately, he's small. If he's a little bigger, he would have jumped over the walls and went to even further places." In fact, cats that were not hyperactive did not exist.

"Right. Let's go back. Mo Yu'er is dirty and needs to be washed."

"Okay."

The two of them had just walked a few steps when they met Fifth Prince Jun Chengxi along the way.

Seeing the two, Jun Chengxi smiled and said, "What a coincidence, I didn't expect to meet the Seventh Brother and Qiyang here."

"Mo Yu'er came here to play, and Your Highness and I came to retrieve it." Ling Qiyang said, and then asked, "Why is Fifth Brother here?"

"Mother Concubine wants some plums in her palace. I'm about to get her some." Jun Chengyan said.

"Fifth Brother is really filial."

At this time, Mo Yu'er was nestled in Ling Qiyang's arms. However, his eyes fixed on Jun Chengyan warily, as if there was something unnatural about the prince.

"Raising a cat is fine, but it's not good to let it run around. In case someone accidentally caught it and made it into a fur coat. If that happened, wouldn't you be extremely distressed, Qiyang?" Jun Chengxi's tone reeked of evil intentions and scorn.

Ling Qiyang held on to his faint smiled, "It's one thing to catch it, and another to dare to kill it. Besides, Mo Yu'er is Empress Mother's pet. If something happens, it is a grave disrespect to Empress Mother and also to Emperor Father. Everyone knows the consequence of direct and would not dare to breach that rule."

"That is reasonable..." As Jun Chengxi's spoke, his face suddenly turned drained of colour. He grasped onto his head firmly as his feet buckled. The attendant behind him hurriedly supported him and asked anxiously: "Your Highness, are you alright?"

At the moment, Mo Yu'er burrowed into Ling Qiyang's arms desperately. It was as if it had encountered something that repulsive and horrid.

Thinking of what Ling Qiyang said about Mo Yu'er's possible reactions, Jun Lixuan smirked. It was as they expected. He stepped forward to guard Ling Qiyang and Mo Yu'er. With a superficial concern, he asked, "Fifth Brother, what happened to you?"

Jun Chengxi grimaced and pulled himself together. He forced a smiled and said, "It's just a headache. I haven't had a good rest these few days and caught a cold." Looking at Jun Chengxi's expression, he seemed unaware of his headache's real cause and brushed it off as a common cold.

"You should go back and rest soon. Let the Imperial Doctors take a look." Although Jun Lixuan's voice was unfluctuating, he did his duty of showing concern.

"Yeah. I'll get going." Jun Chengxi leaned onto the attendant and stumbled in the direction he had come from.

When he walked away, Ling Qiyang smiled. Jun Lixuan picked up Mo Yuer, who was about to snuggle into Ling Qiyang's jacket, clamped it in his arms. With his other hand, he held Ling Qiyang and walked towards Serene Palace.
