Chapter 12 Quelling the Rumours (Part 1/3)

Count Wangyang threw a sumptuous dinner banquet for Jun Lixuan and Ling Qiyang. Ling Qiyang's Father and Aunt Zhou, who was never invited to family banquets, were also present throughout the meal. While the Madam Ling's sour face lasted throughout the night, she did not dare to go against Jun Lixuan's wishes.
Ling Qiyang 's eldest brother, Ling Hongzhi, had also returned to the Mansion by dinner time. Hearing that Ling Qiyang was back, he hurried over without even changing out of his court official's robes. From his enthusiastic response, his care for Ling Qiyang was evident. Throughout the night, Ling Hongzhi asked about Ling Qiyang's current situation. He attended court meetings daily, and he had learnt some snippets of the couple's life. However, it was always better to hear from Ling Qiyang directly.

The positive changes on Ling Qiyang lifted a massive load of worries lifted off his shoulders. Not only did he not get thinner, but his face was much rosier, and his smile more expansive than before. Ling Qiyang introduced him to Jun Lixuan. Amongst the officials, Jun Lixuan was known to be notoriously difficult to get acquainted with. In the past, Ling Hongzhi wanted to meet His Royal Highness Ling but never had the opportunity. Fortunately, the chance had arrived with Ling Qiyang's marriage. Seeing the kind and loving brotherly reception from Ling Hongzhi, Jun Lixuan was pleased and softened his attitude.

During the dinner, Ling Hongzhi took advantage of the toast and secretly said to Ling Qiyang, "Today the Emperor called me for a meeting. It's regarding the Tamar tribe in the north, do you know about it?"

"I have heard a little bit, but I don't know the details." Ling Qiyang concealed part of his knowledge, protecting Jun Lixuan. Sometimes, only tightly sealed lips could make a secret truly unknown to others.

"Your Highness told you?" Ling Hongzhi asked.

Ling Qiyang nodded, "The Emperor is furious, it's hard to be a prince and not learn of it."

"Right?" Not to mention the princes, even the court officials must always pay attention to the Emperor's moods. The Emperor was as much a monarch as he was a danger. Only by watching his reactions and speaking cautiously could the officials keep peace within the court.

"The Emperor is still fuming?" Ling Qiyang chose not to ask about the Emperor's words directly. Instead, he beat around the bush.

"Well, his anger is still boiling. Today, Concubine Ying knelt outside and begged to see the Emperor all afternoon. However, the Emperor did not even bat an eye. Since he has summoned many military officials this time, it seems that he is not ready to deploy the princes again." Ling Hongzhi presented his speculations without holding back.

"This time, the Eldest Prince not only lost the hearts of the people but also the hearts of the soldiers. If another prince is deployed, everyone will be dissatisfied. They will think that the princes fail to understand the people's hardships and are ignoring their needs. Undoubtedly, people worry that the disaster will reoccur. Therefore, it is more appropriate to send a capable general this time around." Ling Qiyang whispered.

"Intelligent analysis, Brother." Ling Hongzhi nodded with a smile.

"Elder brother trusts me enough to share your ideas with me. I'm glad." Ling Qiyang smiled. He understood that Ling Hongzhi told him these things because his father was so clever and would probably realise this sooner or later. Secondly, most of the strategic warfare that Ling Hongzhi learned, in addition to what his teacher taught, were partially taught by Ling Qiyang's Father. Coincidentally, it was the latter's teachings that took him to where he is today. In front of the one he learnt from, there was no need to hide anything.

"Looking at this situation, the Emperor's rage will not soothe until the chaos in the north is subdued." Ling Hongzhi sighed.

"If the eldest brother is going outfield, please be careful. Forgive me as I may not be able to send you off." Although Jun Lixuan
did not restrict his freedom, it was still difficult for him to go out like the past.

"I understand. I told you this to give you peace of mind. Your Highness should note deployed for the time being. You can kinder your love and rest easy." Ling Hongzhi winked and nudged him jokingly.
Ling Hongzhi was six years elder than Ling Qiyang. He was a handsome and polite man, with a refined scholarly temperament on him. So much so that it was sometimes difficult for others to see him as a military commander.

"Thank you, Elder brother. I will send someone to bring some good injury medicine for you, just in case." Ling Qiyang said.

"I will gladly take up your offer." Ling Hongzhi smiled and patted Ling Qiyang on the shoulder then returned to his position.

The family banquet felt longer than it actually was and ended somewhat happily...

After the meal, Ling Qiyang and his father went back to the house for tea, while Jun Lixuan went with Ling Hongzhi.

Halfway through their chat, Ming Li smiled and walked in." Prince Consort, Your Highness said that the road at night is tough to navigate; hence we will be staying overnight at Count Wangyang Mansion. He said that you can slowly chat with Concubine Yue. Count Wangyang has already gotten people to clean up your room for Your Highness and you to use. YourHighness also mentioned that if it's too late at night, you can simply rest here at Concubine Yue's chambers."

Upon hearing Ming Li's words, Ling Qiyang fell speechless for a while. Jun Lixuan's understanding and thoughtfulness touched his heart. At the same time, he felt guilty. All of today, he had put his full attention on his father and left Jun Lixuan was wholly ignored.

"Go and tell him, I will go back to the room later." Ling Qiyang said.

"Yes, I will do so now." Ming Li retired with a smile.

Ling Qiyang's Father drank tea and chuckled softly, "Your Highness is very thoughtful."

Ling Qiyang laughed but said nothing ...

When Jun Lixuan returned to the yard, night had fallen. The yard was quiet and elegant, no unnecessary personnel were employed.

At this time, Ling Qiyang was still chatting with his father in the main house, but Jun Lixuan did not bother them. He went to Ling Qiyang's room, but just two steps out before the door, his feet halted.
