Chapter 08 Wholeheartedly for You (Part 1/3)
Ever since Jun Lixuan's clothing order arrived at the manor, a red-figure consistently fleeted about His Royal Highness Ling Manor. Jun Lixuan found the sight extremely beautiful, and attendants found it joyous and auspicious. Every time Ling Qiyang walked by, the attendants would secretly steal a glance at the Prince Consort.
When Jun Lixuan returned home, he saw Ling Qiyang resting on the soft tatami, reading his book. When the latter saw Jun Lixuan walking through the doors, he placed his book down and stood up, "Is it cold outside?" Jun Lixuan was afraid that Ling Qiyang would catch a cold, so he instructed the attendants to place more the charcoal basins in the house. He even told Ling Qiyang to stay indoors if he had nothing to do. As such, the latter had no idea what the temperature was outside the room.
"Not too bad, it seems that the weather would be good these few days." Jun Lixuan took off his cloak and handed it to Ming Li. "Tomorrow I will take you into the palace slightly earlier so we can visit Empress Mother ."
"Sounds good." Ling Qiyang responded. While talking, Luo Su served hot tea to the two, and then left the room with Ming Li and waited outside.
"I told Empress Mother about the incense. We should stay cautious of the people in the palace since it's always good to be prepared. You must also be careful when you enter the palace tomorrow." Jun Lixuan put his hands above the charcoal basin to for warmth before sitting on the couch.
"I know."
"What are you going to wear tomorrow? If you don't want to wear red, you don't have to wear it." Jun Lixuan looked at Ling Qiyang. His wife's pale face seemed to be accentuated by the red linen, and he couldn't help but pinch the rosy and inviting cheeks.
The New Year banquet was considered a family banquet. There was not much attention placed on dressing, so official clothing was not necessary, Any robes were fine as long as it was presentable.
"I think the one embroidered Clivia looks very good. It is also appropriate to wear tomorrow. Red represents joy and prosperity, after all." Ling Qiyang smiled as his chin was lifted by the man beside him.
"Well, then we're decided!" Jun Lixuan nodded immediately and ruffled Lin Qiyang's hair. He was confident that hi Prince Consort would look enchanting in any of the robes he prepared.
At night, the two of them laid comfortably on the bed after taking a warm shower. The room was shrouded in dim orange wash from the only remaining candle. The faint light cast a drowsy atmosphere, gradually increasing the weight on one's eyelids. Ling Qiyang laid on the bed and stared at the top of the canopy in a daze.
"What are you thinking about?" Jun Lixuan saw him staring wide-eyed as if he was not sleepy.
"Nothing." Ling Qiyang muttered.
Jun Lixuan grabbed Ling Qiyang's hand in the quilt and said, "I have prepared a gift and will send it to Count Wangyang Mansion tomorrow morning. Half for the mansion and half for your father."
Ling Qiyang turned to look at him blankly.
Jun Lixuan smiled, "You can't go back to for the New Year tomorrow. Also, your father is a concubine, if you are not there, he must be very lonely. I'll send some good things to add some joy to your father's New Year. This will also remind the people in Count Wangyang's Mansion of his status and not take him lightly." Conventionally, the Prince Consort should handle these things himself. It would be alright as long as the gift list was approved by the Prince. However, Ling Qiyang's time in the manor was still short, and he was unclear of some accounting procedures. Knowing this, Jun Lixuan drafted the list on his behalf.
"Thank you." Ling Qiyang mouthed the words softly and bit onto his lower lip. He could not find other words to express his utmost gratitude. If this person decided to be cold and heartless, nothing could make him warm-up and change his attitude. Yet when he decided to be kind and gentle, his thoughtfulness went beyond conventional standards by leaps and bounds.
"Go to sleep. We can do whatever you want in the next few days. I don't have to go to court so I can accompany you."
"Sounds good."
As the
candlelight swayed in the breeze, the calming light wheezes of sleep sounded
from the two on the bed.
