Chapter 05 The Counter-acting Incenses (Part 1)
"What?"
Jun Lixuan did not catch Ling Qiyang clearly. However, his instincts sharply
detected the importance of those words.
Ling
Qiyang looked at him in silence as if he was hesitant.
"Qiyang,
did you realise something?" Jun Lixuan looked at him earnestly, "Now
that we are married, I believe in you without question. If it's regarding
Empress Mother, please let me know."
Ling
Qiyang had a mysterious realisation. Every time Jun Lixuan called his name and
pleaded, he could not refuse. Sitting up, Ling Qiyang leaned on the pillow and
said, "How long has Your Majesty not stayed overnight in Her Majesty’s
Palace?"
As a
man, Jun Lixuan did not inquire about such things. However, he occasionally
overheard the conversations of the Empress's attendants. He replied,
"Except for the first and the fifteenth day of every month, Emperor Father
will not stay with Empress Mother."
"Do
you know why?"
"Emperor
Father is busy with our Empire's affairs. Sometimes, the excessive worrying
plague his sleep. Only his chambers at Qian'an Palace helps him sleep
well." Jun Lixuan frowned, "Is there a problem?"
Ling
Qiyang pondered momentarily and cautiously said, "You had difficulty
pulling yourself out of the dreams today not because of fatigue, but because of
incense used."
"Incense?"
Jun Lixuan never thought of burning incense as a problem.
"His
Majesty’s Moonfall Incense and Her Majesty’s Cloud Bamboo Incense are both
excellent calming fragrances. But Cloud Bamboo Incense counteracts the Moonfall
Incense. Breathing in the Moonfall Incense followed by Cloud Bamboo Incense
induces a series of nightmares when the victim is asleep. In severe cases,
there will be sleep paralysis. You’ve just experienced it. You breathed in the
two incense consecutively and experienced nightmares. When the

drowsy. Hence, even if you visit Her Majesty after meeting His Majesty, you
only smell Cloud Bamboo Incense and will not have nightmares." Ling Qiyang finished
speaking and felt much more relieved.
"It
seems that the Imperial Noble Consort has it all thought out." Jun Lixuan
sneered and poured a cup of tea for Ling Qiyang. He asked, "How do you
know this?"

Qiyang sipped the tea and held the cup in his hand, "You know I am a child

Qiyang laughed a little bit more self-deprecatingly, "Later, you went on
the battlefield. I thought that if I excelled in my studies, I might be able to
help you. After all, blades had no eyes. If you got seriously injured, I could
do more than worry and cry."
Jun
Lixuan smiled, reached out his hand to hold onto his wife's chin. He lifted his

ensured that her scheme was seamless and untraceable. Otherwise, it will be her
