Chapter 04 Till Death Do Us Part (Part 4)

At lunchtime, Emperor Yanxi returned to Serene Palace to have a meal with the Empress and the newlyweds. Afraid that Ling Qiyang would not have enough to eat, Jun Lixuan snuck more food onto his plate. Although Ling Qiyang was grateful for his thoughtfulness, he was utterly embarrassed. When the Empress saw the sneaky actions, she smiled and asked them to eat more.

Dusk had fallen by the time they returned to His Royal Highness Ling Manor. Since they had a hearty lunch and ate a lot of snacks in the afternoon, the two of them didn't feel hungry. Hence, they settled for a simple dinner.

The fatigue from last night, coupled with and the early day's events this morning, took a toll on Ling Qiyang. Soon after dinner, drowsiness had flushed Ling Qiyang's mind. After a bath, he headed to bed early. While Jun Lixuan wanted to continue last night's exercise, he decided against it after seeing the daze in Ling Qiyang's eyes. In any case, they had a long future ahead of them.

Fortunately for him, Ling Qiyang did not feel the same way as he did in the past life. Ling Qiyang's heartbreaking death wish of not loving Jun Lixuan in his afterlife did not carry over to his life. Regardless of whether this life was smooth-sailing, Jun Lixuan only needed one thing, Ling Qiyang's love. He would do everything to give Ling Qiyang a stable life. Putting down the canopy beside the bed, Jun Lixuan lifted the blankets and laid down. To be close to Ling Qiyang at all times, Jun Lixuan had asked to replace the two blankets with a sizeable double quilt. Amid this harsh winter, squeezing into one quilt together also helped to warm each other.

Ling Qiyang opened his dreamy eyes and looked at the man beside. Jun Lixuan seized the opportunity, pulled him in, and leaned his head to his shoulder. Then, he tucked in the blankets, and the two fell asleep deeply. After some time, Jun Lixuan jolted awake. While he slept deeply, his sleep was unstable and ridden with dreams. When he woke up, a headache plagued his mind. Visions and scenes from his past life flooded in simultaneously.

One moment, he dreamt of the day he visited Jun Liyuan. That day, he overheard Jun Liyuan talking to Jun Liche, saying "...Upon succession, Jun Lixuan must be removed..."

The next moment, he was reading the letter he received from the Third Prince, saying that Emperor Father had appointed the Fifth Prince as the Crown Prince. The Sixth Prince was grounded, and Jun Liyuan was seriously injured. After reading the letter, he flew into a fit of boiling rage, and he launched a coup...

With another piercing pain through his head, he was back on the battlefield, in the midst of a confrontation between the two armies. His Third Brother instructed him to escape, but he was shot and wounded by a spy sent by the Fifth Prince. In the end, he was arrested...

Then, his dreams changed again. He was in prison, speaking with Jun Liyuan. In this dire straits, he finally opened his heart to his Third Brother. It turned out that what Third Brother said that day was that if the Fourth or Fifth Prince was made the successor, Jun Lixuan would definitely be killed. The letter was also forged and not written by Jun Liyuan. The seal was stolen from him, and the letter was fake.  Jun Liyuan had sent someone to notify Jun Lixuan, but the mishap happened too quickly.
After the talk at the prison, he Jun Lixuan of Ling Qiyang clad in the flaming red robes, charging towards him. Then, he heard a muffled thud...

Jun Lixuan sprang wide awake. His breathing was heavy, and his heart raced quickly. His mind was in duress and his chest uncomfortably tight. He turned his head and looked at the man beside him. Ling Qiyang had also opened his eyes, looking at him in concern.

"Sorry, I woke you up?" Jun Lixuan sat up, took the water glass by the bedside, and drank it in one gulp.

Ling Qiyang shook his head.

After calming his heart, Jun Lixuan tucked Ling Qiyang back to bed. He frowned and said, "I haven't dreamed for a long time, and it feels like I can't pull myself out of it. Thankfully..." It's all the past now... Jun Lixuan forced down the last five words. Then he said, "Maybe it's because I've been too tired recently. That's why I'm dreaming."

Ling Qiyang stared at him for a long time before slowly speaking, "The incense."
