“Riing ring ring”

He Xing abruptly rose from her slumber with her head drenched in cold sweat.

Wasn’t she dead? Why did she wake up on her bed?

She picked up her cell phone and looked at the calendar. YES! It was still Thursday.

He Xing sprang out of bed. She rushed to the floor-to-ceiling mirror, and saw herself standing there uninjured. The neckline of her white cotton pajamas was printed with little cherries, and at this moment, it was slightly open. Standing there, she could see her snowy-white neck that had no traces of being strangled at all on it.

Now, she could no longer believe that it was all merely a nightmare.

He Xing froze on the spot. She only felt a stream of current pass from her head to toe, making her whole body go numb.

What was going on? How come she was reliving this day again? Why was she murdered once again?

Her mother’s voice came from the kitchen. ”Xiao Xing, have you woken up? Wash up and come over to eat, quickly.”

He Xing hurriedly got dressed and rushed to the dining table in the living room. Her breakfast was still an egg, toasted bread, and milk cereal. Its shape and position were also identical to the day before. Her mother walked out of the kitchen. Seeing He Xing sitting in a daze she asked, “Why aren’t you eating?”

He Xing came back to her senses. She picked up the piece of toast and took a bite.

Her mother touched her forehead and asked, “Why do you look so bad?“

He Xing drew her head back and looked back at her mother with a wry smile. “It’s nothing. The study pressure of studying is probably getting to my head. There’s been a lot to do recently.“

She was afraid that her mother would notice something was off. So, she quickly finished her toast in a couple of mouthfuls, ran to her bedroom, and packed the books needed for Thursday’s class into her schoolbag. This time He Xing didn’t enter the wrong classroom. She sat down and placed her books on the table. When she looked up, she saw Xia Xiyan entering the classroom. Her slender, elegant white skirt flowed like flowers following behind her and attracted everyone’s attention as soon as she came in.

“Xiao Xing, you came early today.“

Xia Xiyan sat next to He Xing with a sweet smile on her face.

“I only just arrived too.“

He Xing smiled at Xia Xiyan and looked down at her book, but she couldn’t bring herself to concentrate.

She peeked at her classmates who were sitting around her. Wang Meixuan’s rubber and pen fell to the ground and she bent twice before picking them up. Zhou Mingming stretched, exposing the notes hidden in his trouser pocket. Li Wei picked up his pack of milk and took a few mouthfuls. When he spit out the straw, his hand that holding the carton accidentally exerted too much strength and squeezed out a few drops of milk, which splashed out and stained his plaid shirt

The small details that she had once ignored were all magnified in front of her eyes.

In He Xing’s heart, the little feeling that all of this might be fluke turned into flying ashes bit by bit.

What the hell was happening? Why was she repeating the same Thursday everyday? Who wanted to kill her? Although she didn’t actually die, the pain that she felt when she was being killed was real. Who would enjoy being killed everyday?

He Xing didn’t want to repeat the same day, eating the same thing over and over again, taking the same lesson everyday, confessing to Jiang Yingjing and then being rejected by him, and then dying again and again on top of all that. Just what was it that she had to do to get out of this f**king cursed black Thursday?

Leaning on the table, He Xing was crying out loud on the inside. Her mind was tumultuous.

Xia Xiyan looked at her frighteningly pale face and uncomfortable position. She gently nudged He Xing.

“Xiao Xing, what’s with the listless look. Are you okay?“

He Xing didn’t want Xia Xiyan to worry and casually made up an excuse. “I….. I forgot to eat this morning.”

“How could you not eat?” Xia Xiyan took out a packet of meat floss bread from her bag. She tossed the transparent plastic covering into the trash can, and tore the bread into two halves. She handed one half to He Xing, and with a soft and beautiful voice, she said, “Let’s split it into half.“

“No, no, you’re already so thin. How can I snatch your breakfast?“

“I can’t finish it all by myself anyway.“

Not waiting for her to say another word, Xia Xiyan stuffed half of the bread into He Xing’s hands.

He Xing was moved to tears. Xiyan was unmistakably the sunshine in her gloomy world!

There would be a class test today. However, the questions that she couldn’t solve before would still remain unsolved. It wasn’t easy to prepare everything at the last moment. He Xing swiftly opened her book. Based on her residual memory, she rummaged through the questions of the test she had taken yesterday. In fact, it didn’t matter even if she handed out a blank paper since she’d still be reading when she woke up to this ‘Thursday’ again tomorrow. But there was still a glimmer of hope in He Xing’s heart. What if she opened her eyes in the morning and it was Friday?

Teacher Zhang walked into the classroom. He entered with his smooth bald head, and a smile in his chubby face.

“Let’s have a quiz today. The score will be considered for your final grade.“

The class monitor handed out the test papers to everyone. He Xing picked up the pen and saw that she found the test questions on the paper to be more familiar than yesterday. It was definitely a good idea to cram. Her answering speed today was much faster than last time. Facing several bewildered gazes, He Xing walked up to the teacher’s desk to hand in the papers. Then, she returned to her seat, and turned over the book to compare answers. There were still many errors, but her grades shouldn’t be too bad.

The classroom was quiet. Everyone was answering the questions seriously, and only the rustle of the pen across the paper could be heard.

He Xing read all of the questions, summarized her mistakes, and finally closed the book.

There was still some time before class ended. She felt a headache approaching when she remembered that she had to see Jiang Yingjing again today. She cursed her Wednesday self for stuffing the love letter into Jiang Yingjing’s bag. Couldn’t she have been a day late? If she’d stuffed later on Thursday morning, she could take it back and pretend nothing happened. She really didn’t want to be rejected by Jiang Yingjing again.

He Xing spent the whole day trapped between the stress of facing Jiang Yingjing and the dread of being murdered.

The sunset was still beautiful, the rays of light were reflected on the stone slabs of the rooftop.

Jiang Yingjing returned the pink letter to He Xing and asked coldly, “What did you want to talk about?“

He Xing took the letter from Jiang Yingjin and stuffed it into her bag. Her face was crimson red. She didn’t dare to look directly into his cold, transparent black eyes. He Xing tried to hide her embarrassment with dry laughter and said, “Hahaha, did you think it was a love letter?“

Jiang Yingjing subconsciously repeated her words. “Love Letter?“

He Xing’s expression froze.

Jiang Yingjing didn’t say anything, so why did she have to go ahead and expose herself?

He Xing buried the frustration in her heart, and tried to pretend as if nothing had happened. “You think too much. It was just an invitation.“
