He Xing had heard a lot about Qin Xingli since she was a freshman. He was a year older than her and a perfect senior, with no shortcomings to be found. She didn’t think she would get to know him back then. To make it easier for her to go to school, her parents sold their old house and saved up money to buy a new one near the school. Then, Qin Xingli became her neighbor. His character was also quite good. After running into her a few times, he took the initiative to ask her if she was studying at the same school and offered to help her any time she needed it. He Xing still remembered Qin Xingli’s tender expression at that time.

Really? Why did some people have such a nice personality?

Thinking of Jiang Yingjing’s ice-cold face, He Xing felt aggrieved.

When Qin Xingli first met He Xing, he heard that her name was He Xing[1] and gave her the nickname Little Star. He Xing warned him a few times, however Qin Xingli seemed to live in his own world. Whether they were at school, where he was surrounded by his suitors, or while returning home from school, whenever Qin Xingli saw He Xing, he would greet her enthusiastically: “Such a coincidence ah Xiao Xing. Where are you going? Little Star, let’s go together.”

[TL note: Xiao Xing = Little Star]

Just like a chatterbox.

Forget it, little stars are little stars. It was better than being called any other weird names.

“Senior Xingli, there is no one in my house, and I forgot to bring my keys.”

He Xing walked toward Qin Xingli and stopped in front of him, looking dejected. She was too embarrassed to say that she had lost her keys since she didn’t want him to doubt her IQ level. Qin Xingli didn’t ask. He looked at her with a smile: “Such a coincidence. There’s no one in my house either.”

[TL: LOL! why does it sound so wrong (>0<)]

Did she hear it wrong?

Why did his tone have a hint of joy?

“Do you want to come over to my place for dinner? I’ll make you my special fried rice with eggs.”

Qin Xingli patted her fluffy hair as if she was a soft kitten.

“Senior can cook?!” He Xing looked at him in astonishment. “I don't believe it.”

“What’s with that look on your face? Is it weird that I can cook?”

“Ah ha ha ha, I didn’t mean that!”

He Xing smiled while waving her hands. She wanted to refuse Qin Xingli’s dark cuisine*[2]. But seeing Qin Xingli, whose expression was like a spring breeze in April, how could she voice out her refusal?

“Little Star, you wait for me here. I’m going out to buy rice, eggs, scallions, and mineral water.” Qin Xingli turned to leave, still thinking about something as he muttered.

He Xing grabbed onto his thin and delicate wrist: “Hey senior, don’t you have any ingredients?”

Qin Xingli looked back at her, with a puzzled expression: “It’s better to buy fresh ones.”

“…” That’s not the point, okay?

Qin Xingli’s eyes fell onto his hand that He Xing was holding. He Xing blushed while suddenly realizing it. She quickly let go of him and sheepishly said, “Since you have nothing at home, I won’t disturb you. I’ll just go out to eat noodles.”

“No, I am a very organized person. I’ve already made a plan so I can’t change it.”

“Ah, what plan!?”

“In the three seconds that I just said fried rice with eggs, I’ve already thought about a series of processes, including steaming the rice, scrambling eggs, eating, and washing the dishes. I’ve been looking forward to the process of buying vegetables too. Do you have the heart to break my perfect plan?”

Qin Xingli looked at He Xing with puppy dog eyes. The bright and confident handsome senior from just a moment ago had suddenly become a pitiful little puppy. He Xing managed to give him a stiff smile as she accepted her defeat.

“Okay. Let’s have fried rice with eggs.”

Qu Xingli strode toward the door while He Xing obediently waited for him in the yard.

It was dark at night, but the courtyard was brightly lit by the lights falling on the masonry floor.

He Xing sat on the bench and watched as a small fluffy black cat came out from the bushes. The cat hid under a car nearby, looking at her with a pair of clear eyes. He Xing gave a soft whistle and beckoned the cat over with a crooked finger. The little black cat was not tempted by her. It stretched its paws and scratched its neck, lying on the ground lazily. He Xing was bored. She took out her cell phone. She didn’t know how long she had been looking at it, but she soon felt a pain in her neck. She pressed on the lock button, and the screen of her cell phone went black instantly. He Xing suddenly caught sight of a shadow on the screen. There was a figure standing behind her, and it was looking down at her from a height.

“Senior, you are back.”

He Xing stood up, patting her hungry stomach. But before she could turn around, someone covered her mouth all of a sudden and a cold, sharp pain pierced her back. Perhaps it was only a few seconds, but He Xing felt like it dragged on for a century. She opened her eyes wide, shocked into deep fear. She felt the cold dragger being pulled out again, and a tearing pain spread through her entire body. She staggered and sank onto the bench. Somehow, she used all her might to turn her head and caught a glimpse of a blurred face.

She couldn’t remember what happened next.

*TL notes —

[1]: 何幸 (He Xing)’s xing{4} which means fortune is a homophone to 星’s xing{1} which means star. I don’t know why I feel weird that Qin Xingli’s xing also means star.

[2]dark cuisine: “It can refer to anything particularly hard to swallow.”

********* Qin Xingli’s scrambled egg and fried rice which He Xing didn’t get to have in this chapter
